Youre taking a live look in San Francisco where muni is now warning mass transit riders to expect major delays as a result of this mornings stickout. We have Team Coverage. But they are still cool, 49 to 56 degrees. Low clouds, even if you dont have the low clouds, you can see them off to the west. Inland there are some sunny areas. Oakland 54. A high of 67 degrees. Most temperatures coast and pay will be below average. Inland will be about 81, 80. There is an area of low pressure and another low we saw on tuesday keeping this pattern this place. A lot of 50s. They havent moved all morning long, the lows. A good sea breeze at concord. Oakland, napa. Its a sea breeze in place. It will be cooler for almost everybody except clearlake and vacaville. Everyone else will cool down and that fog on the coast is not going anywhere. Fog, sun, breezy. Cooler for most. About 95 of the forecast area. Summer pattern, 70s, inland. 50s, 60s, coast and bay. Heres sal. I want to mention we have a mod morning commute that is very slow on some parts of the east bay. Westbound 80 from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze, already 32 minutes getting between those two points. Most of that slow traffic is up near the carquinez bridge. The traffic has been slow in marin county because of an earlier crash at southbound 101 near sir francis break and a crack report in val, but i will tell you vallejo but i will tell you, traffic is slow approaching the scene. 580 westbound is an absolute mess from 205 to 580, 680. Thats taking a very long time, more than an hour here. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza, as we mentioned, the traffic is backing up here for about a 25 to 30minute delay as you drive through. There are no major problems as you get through. 7 03. Back to actually were talking about the sick out. Its make as mess of the morning commute. Twitter comments, hundreds of drivers have called in sick. We just learned an entire system of buses and trains is only at 33 capacity right now. Tara moriarty has been covering this since 3 30. Tara, what do you see out there . Reporter well, you know, the muni spokesperson told us that there are 400 runs of the 600 that are not being made this morning. Thats a pretty dire situation. People have already been complaining on social media saying that they are experiencing more than han hour wait time. This is the bus yard. You can see where the lot is still pretty backed full of buses. Riders should expect significant delays. The muni spokespersonperson said he doesnt have the exact number of people who called in sick but we do know its in the hundreds. The reason for the mass sick call, operators and mechanics are angry about a contract dispute. They worked on a contingency plan all weekend, hiring drivers on stand by, but right now the situation doesnt look good. Right now were focused on putting two cars on the kt lane and j lane. All local express. Were working as best we can to balance everything out. Reporter word of a possible sick out came on friday. The day they began to work on a new contract. It offers raises but makes workers take over their own pensions. If you depend on this system, plan on getting to work to another way. If ratified, workers would get paid about 32 but would take over a 7. 75 pension currently paid for by the city. Muni workers are City Employees and unlike b. A. R. T. Work, they are not allowed to workers, they are not allowed to stage an official strike. We continue to follow another developing commute. This one in vallejo where one person is dead after the driver of a box truck fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree. Alex savidge is at the scene where cleanup efforts are causing a major backup. Reporter good morning to you. It could be another couple hours before they can clear the crash. Thats what the chp it telling us. This has led to a major backup. This is the cleanup effort going on on the side of the road, tow trucks are here. Right now we have a Hazardous Materials team out here dealing with some of the spilled fuel from the box truck that sloomed into a couple of trees along redwood parkway. None of the freeway are blocked but this is causing a muge distraction for drive huge distraction for drivers as they pass by. This is westbound 80 through vallejo this morning. This crash happened just after 3 00 and the back of this truck was split apart. The driver told the chp he fell asleep behind the wheel and drifted off the road. The passenger in that truck was thrown from the cab and killed. The chp says that man was not wearing a seat belt at the time. Part of whats complicating the cleanup is the fact that this truck was leaking diesel fuel and this Hazardous Materials team has had to come out and deal with the spill. The traffic is backed up in a major way and the chp is warning drivers to be ready for delays. As you are coming down the hill into vallejo, keep your heads up for traffic slowing down as you are coming down the hill. Weve activated these to make sure you keep your eyes on the road. Reporter this truck was coming from the sacramento area and was headed into the bay area to deliver some mattresses this morning when this accident took place. And in order to tow this truck out of here, its possible that the chp and the Tow Truck Companies that are out here will have to close at least one lane of westbound 80 to allow those tow trucks some room to maneuver and pull this truck out of the area where it is along the side of the freeway. A man is facing dow charges after a Chain Reaction crash in san jose early this morning. Just after 3 00 a. M. , two cars crashed taking out a light pole. The driver was arrested and police say they expect he was under the influence of drugs. After that crash, a truck and another car hit and another car rear ended a van. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. A nationwide search continues this morning for a San Francisco man after an fbi raid turned up explosives in his apartment. The man they are searching for is 42yearold Ryan Chamberlain ii. Its not clear what type of explosives were found. But investigators say he is considered armed and dangerous. On saturday, people near jackson and polk saw agents, some in hazmat suits all throughout the day and late into the night. Agents say they are not sure what chamberlains intentions were with the explosives. Neighbors are surprised saying he was friendly and never raised suspicion. Very friendly. Hes a nicelooking sort of fellow. Hes quiet. Hes not you always have to start the conversation with him. Chamberlain was involved in sports marketing, taught a semester at the university of San Francisco in 2011. He also worked as a field organizer on Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsoms 2003 campaign. Police found the body of 78 yearold saturday morning inside the home that she shared with her exhusband. A friend called 911 saying he had not been able to get in touch with her since the night before. The exhusband was at the home police say and immediately confessed to the killing. The restaurant was closed yesterday with a handwritten note posted on the front door announcing the owners death. Three people are recovering from gunshot wounds after reports of a late night shooting in East Palo Alto. Officers responded to the shots off pail low verde avenue. Well, i spoke with one man who told me he spent the last couple of weeks reading through the election booklet and informing himself about the candidates and the issues. Hes in the minority, though. So far only 20 of the vote by mail balots have been ballots have been returned. And turnout is expected to be around 35 which would be the lowest turnout for a primary since 1994. While the governors seats are up for grabs, no upsets are expected. For the first time in eight years, voters will choose a mayor among five other candidates. This has caught the attention of unions and supporters of Cannabis Clubs, a coalition of dispenries is giving away dispensaries is giving away free marijuana to those who vote. Being able to pick our city council for me is important. My High School Teacher was on the city council and the school board. Thats important. We need those people in our city. Back to you. Thank you. 7 46. A massive cleanup will soon be underway after a fire at a Processing Plant in u ba county burned yuba county burned four buildings to the ground. The flames started at 10 30 saturday night. Fire crews from three counties and two dozen agencies teamed up to battle the flames. Some of them remained on scene yesterday to make sure other parts of the plant were protested. Plan on the rainers say they plant operators say they have no idea how the fire started. Well, todays muni sickout is making a mess of the monday morning commute. Hundreds of drivers have called in sick in a contract dispute. Last hour, we learned the entire system of buses and trains is only at 33 of capacity. Fewer runs this morning because so many of these buses are not running. It appears there is another bus at the top of the hill there. Weve seen quite a few of the goog buses. Weve seen several google buses but no muni buses until just now. Its been sort of a ghost town around here. A lot of riders complaining they are having to wait for more than an hour to catch a bus this morning. Riders should be expecting significant delays this morning. The muni spokesperson said he doesnt have the exact number of people who called in sick but we do know that its in the hundreds. The reason for the sick call, muni operators and mechanics are angry about their results of an ongoing contract dispute. They worked all weekend to hire dringers on stand drivers on stand by. It doesnt look good right now. 400 out of 600 runs are not out this morning. Were trying to Balance Service the best we can. Reporter word of a possible sickout first came on friday, the same day munis operators and mechanics began to vote on a new contract. It offers raises but makes workers take over their own pension which is currently paid for by the city. If you depend on muni, Officials Say plan on getting to work or school another day. We just got off the phone with a muni worker who says the organization is gonna be all of the workers will being a will be holding a press conference at market and van ness. They will be demanding a list of things. They want the mayor to place a ballot on the initiative that would reform the mta. They also want the work on the central subway system stopped so they could use the money to put bathrooms on the buses for all operators. Quite a bis of demands. Theres more to come. A nationwide search continues this morning for a San Francisco man after an fbi raid turned up explosives in his apartment. The man they are searching for is the picture you see here, 42 yearold Ryan Chamberlain ii. Its not clear what type of explosives were found or what he planned to do with them. But investigators say he is considered armed and dangerous. On saturday, people saw agents at his apartments, some in hazmat suits, all throughout the day and late in the day. Neighbors are surprised, saying he was friendly and never raised suspicion. Very friendly. A nicelooking sort of fell lee. Hes quiet fellow. Hes quiet. Chamberlain was involved in sports marketing, taught a semester at the university of San Francisco in 2011 and was active in political circles. And today in oakland, a Police Officer will be stationed at an Elementary School where a 9yearold was attacked with a hammer. It happened at la fayette and elementary. School Officials Say shes a frequent volunteer and has been apparently feuding with the girls family. One person is dead after the driver of a truck fell asleep at the wheel. M. , and the back part was split apart by the impact. The driver told the chp he fell hey sleep behind the wheel and drifted off the road. The passenger was thrown from the cab and killed and the chp says that man was not wearing a seat belt. This truck was leaking diesel fuels. The right tank completely ruptured. We have the diesel spill on the dirt shoulder. Diesel is completely contained. Reporter and the chp says this truck left sacramento early this morning. It was heeded into the bay area to headed into the bay area to deliver mattresses at department stores. The chp says in order to tow this truck out of here, its possible they may have to close at least one lane of traffic here on 80 westbound at redwood parkway. This morning they appeared to be working on this whole process here. Theyve not yet put that truck on the flatbed. A man is facing dow chanks after a chainreaction crash in san jose. Just after 3 00 a. M. , two cars crashed taking out a light pole. This happened on northbound 680 at hostetter road. The driver of one of those cars was arrested. Police say they suspect he was under the influence of drugs. After that crash, a truck and another car hit the downed pole and another van. That person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Students will begin taking their placement exams. The original scores could not be counted because of seating irregularities. The exhusband of a well known Restaurant Owner is in jail this morning accused of stabbing his former wife to death. Police found the body of the 78 yearold woman saturday morning inside the home that she shared with her exhusband on pinewood drive. A friend called 911 saying he had not been able to get in touch with her since the night before. Police say the exhusband was also at the home and immediately confessed to the killing. She was the founding owner of the sewershy restaurant on sushi restaurant. The restaurant was closed yesterday with a handwritten note on the door announceth the owners announcing the owners death. Three people are recovering from gunshot wounds from gunshots in palo alto. Officers responded to the shots off palo verde avenue. Police say when te arrived when they arrived, they found one victim with a gunshot wound. Two of the other victims were dropped off at nearby hospitals. Anyone with information is asked to call the East Palo Alto police department. A man and a woman are behind bars this morning accused of attempting to steal and atm in walnut creek. They say she was working the parking lot and had tools. Election day is tomorrow. Numbers show there is a huge interest. Janine de la vega has been looking at the numbers and joins us live from san jose. Reporter well, the Santa Clara County registrar of voters is predicting a 35 voter turnout which is pretty low. The lowest that it has been since the last primary election in 1994. Thats when it was the lowest. Now, so far everyone that weve been speaking to, nearly everyone tell us that they have already voted or plan on voting tomorrow. The latest numbers that we have in Santa Clara County is that just 20 of the vote by mail ballots have been returned. The registrar says theres typically lower interest among people in primary elections, even though there are a number of seats to fill and Critical Issues to decide. The governors seat is up for grabs but no upsets are expected even though jerry brown has several challengers. For the first time in eight years, voters will choose a mayor among five candidates. We spoke to some this morning about their thoughts on the low turnout. I think its a disgrace and it does give small well organized or strongly motivated groups a great deal of leverage. I think a lot of people dont have incentive because its not something that people deeply care about. But theres nothing i think is a hot topic thats on the bal on the this time ballot on this time but im still gonna go.
