Its going to send everything up and over up towards vancouver and seattle which means we have a lot of sunshine here. As you know, the days are short. Cold morning and then sunny. But hazy, patch or two of fog. Not a bunch. But theres a little bit around. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s at best heres sal. Were looking at a commute thats slightly different today. Its a little bit lighter in some areas but weve had so some problems. 80 westbound has been up and down but the toll plaza delay has not reached more than 15 minutes. Thats about the maximum today. There are no major problems coming into San Francisco. Were also looking at highway 4 which is a little better than it normally is. Happening today president obama is waking up on the west coast this morning. This is video from the president s arrival in seattle yesterday. In just a few hours, he will be arriving in San Francisco. The president has a short but busy visit here. This visit is all about fund raising but the president will be making a policy speech later on this morning and talking about immigration reform. The first stop of the morning will be here at the Betty Ong Center in San Franciscos chinatown. Preparations are well underway both inside the center and outside as well. The secret service is here in and around this facility doing their security sweeps right now. This is a center, by the way, thats named for a hero Flight Attendant who died on 9 11, betty ong. The president will be here in four hours, speaking inside the gym at 11 30. And he will be calling on congress to pass immigration reform. He wants an earned path to citizenship coupled with tighter border security. The white house says the immigration issue is critical to the asianamerican community as well, with an estimated 1. 3 million of this countrys undocumented immigrants being from asia. The director of a local immigrant rights group is hoping the president can get things moving on the issue. But shes not exactly sure what the plan is. I wish i did. But i hope he jumps over congress and does something bold. Reporter following the speech this morning, the president will head to the jazz center for a Democratic Fund raise there. After that he will attend a private fundraiser at the home of mark benioff. Thats in the Presidio Heights neighborhood. Events are sold out. But tickets had to be reduced leading up to the events. He will be greeted at various locations. The president , again, here at the Betty Ong Center in chinatown at 11 30 this morning. On the president s last visit to the area, on june 6th, gallup tracked the Approval Rating at 62 and disapproval at 32 . By last friday, it was almost the reverse. His Approval Rating was 39 but disApproval Rating, 54 . President obama hoped to meet batkid but apparently the superhero has a very busy schedule. He was among the many people who cheered on miles scott during his make a wish day here. But the batkid is not available because hes scheduled to been a National Television show. In other news a woman is in Critical Condition after she jumped from the third deck of the Oakland Coliseum yesterday. It happened just as thousands of fans were leaving the raiders game. Ktvus Tara Moriarty joining us live from the coliseum to tell us about the Good Samaritan. Reporter yes, hes being called a hero. A 61yearold marine corps veteran from stockton has been coming to raiders games since he was a kid. The incident happened behind me. It all happened as the raiders titans game let out. The woman jumped from section 301 above the south end zone covered by a tarp and closed to the public. The Good Samaritan was by the flagpoles when he lunged to grab her. She she plunged 50 feet to the pavement when fans begged her to stop. Your heart reaches out to the woman and the man who very heroically tried to save her. You always wonder why, why would you do that . Reporter the Good Samaritan suffered serious injuries. Hes credited with breaking the womans fall and saving her life all she that woman is in critical can although that woman is in critical can be. Today the chronicle reports there will be a oneyear lease considered for the raiders. They will also vote on a reported deal that would keep the as in oakland for the next two years. However, neither Lease Agreement deals with the long term question of whether oakland can keep the as and the raiders from leaving town. The warriors already are planning a move to San Francisco. 7 08. Hundreds of people remain without power in daly city. Pg e says the outage was first reported just before 12 30 this morning in the westlake neighborhood west of mission street. Initially, more than 6300 customers lost power because of damage to an underground cable. Right now, about 1500 people still dont have electricity but pg e says they expect to have the power fully restored by 9 30 this morning. A Real Estate Developer is at the center of a sex scandal tied to one of San Franciscos oldest churches. The landmark, st. Francis in north beach, has fired william mclaughlin. Hes a marin county Real Estate Developer and animal activist who served as chairman of the churchs volunteer program. His firing reportedly stemmed from allegations of improper behavior, including involving mclaughlin and a former Church Employee including lewd photos and sex in the sanctuary. Hes also accused of misusing church funds. All right. 7 09. For the third year in a row, california was named the worst run state in america. The website 24 7wall street used Financial Information to rank all 50 states and it says california took a big hit with the housing crisis. California also ranked dead last for having the 20th highest debt per capty ta. The third biggest budget and the second highest enemployment rate. Theres good news. California has the 11th highest per capita of income. The bestrun state according to the survey, north dakota. A new report on oaklands i. D. Program says both people are not using the cards debit function. The chronicle says more than 4,000 i. D. Cards have been issued since february but only 80 people have used it as a debit card. Now, the cards were created in part for undocumented immigrants. When it was first introduced, the cost of using the Debit Service was higher than other cards on the market but since then, the city has reduced the debit fees. Also later today, a San Francisco task force appointed by mayor lee will recommend ways to fix the Transportation System in the city. After studying the issue for months, the Task Force Says it will cost 10 billion over the next 15 years to pay for repairs. That task force is recommending three ballot measures that would raise about a billion dollars each to help pay the cost. 7 11. Right now were looking at a commute thats moderately heavy. I will tell you where the heaviest traffic is and how you can get around it. Except for some patches of some fog or low clouds, its cold out there. It will be dry today and tomorrow. But i will tell you, if theres gonna be any rain this Holiday Weekend. Its called knockout game. Its come to california. The game involves people randomly targeting unsuspected strangers and knocking them out with one punch to the head. Knockout game incidents have been reported in at least five states and washington, d. C. Then a few days ago, an incident was reported in san diego. At least four victims have died. Police say its hard to find the people involved because victims are being knocked unconscious and dont remember what happened. A shortage of Forensic Pathologists at the San Francisco medical Examiners Office is being blamed for long delays in releasing death certificates. City data shows that more than three quarters of all pending cases have been waiting for a cause of death for more than three months. The office is supposed to have four Forensic Pathologists working but it currently only has one permanent and one temporary pathologist. The chief medical examiner says the office is working to fix the problem. 7 15. Unattended deepfryer blamed for a house fire last night in pittsburg. It happened yesterday around 5 30 at a house on springfield drive. Firefighters say the smoke and the flames was visible from a halfmile away. It caused about 60,000 damage. On scene, we had heavy involvement in the kitchen. It started to spread into the living room. We were able to knock the fire down. The battalion chief also reminds everybody to be extra careful with the deep fryers. They are used to a lot to fry turkeys for thanksgiving. Crews are making progress on a fire burning in sonoma county. This one started fry about ten miles northeast of friday about ten miles northeast of geyserville. Its 65 contained. Its burned about 3300 acres. All evacuation orders for the area have been lifted. Some of the 1700 firefighters will leave today. The cause of that fire, still under investigation. Its 7 16. Cleanup efforts are underway one week after that deadly tornado tore through illinois. This is video from new mindon, illinois. People say some of their homes were torn from the foundations and are completely gone. Others are clearing debris and sorting it into piles. At least two deaths are blamed on the tornado. A new report shows that hundreds of underground water leaks will go unmonitored because of a new state policy. Since the 1980s, more than 44,000 underground fuel tank leaks have been recorded in the state. But a change went into affect last year that allows some of these sites to end regulatory monitoring even if contamination is traced. The state said too much money was being spent on low threat sites. Marin county is a big step closer to banning single use plastic bags. Residents are being invited to express their opinions on the countys Environmental Impact report on the issue. County officials are expected to certify the report in late january. After that is done, cities and the county are expected to approve a ban on plastic bags. 7 17. About 4. 5 million californians will travel for the thanksgiving holiday. And the travel experts including our own sal castanedo say the day before thanksgiving is expected to be the busiest day os on the day on the highways. If you drive on wednesday, leave before 10 00 a. M. To beat the biggest traffic jams and sunday will be busy all day. Another 500,000 californians are expected to fly somewhere for thanksgiving. The airlines say check in, see if your flight is leaving on time. Weve heard about the weather problems, too. They also want you to get there at least 90 minutes before your scheduled takeoff. All three bay area airports expect crowds to be bigger this year than last year. Speaking of traffic, lets check in with sal right now. The regular commute might be different this week. Yes. His lawsuit claims the army denied him full education and retirement benefits. Yale law students working on this case says he has a diagnosis of posttraumatic stress disorder. Low 30s, upper 20s as well. Temperatures will continue to be very, very colder inland. Not too bad in the city. But theres some cool 30s and 40s for many and they will give way to a lot of upper 50s or low 60s. Hazy skies, patchy fog. Out towards stockton theres very, very thick fog. Be careful if you are heading out there. Heres sal. Were looking at traffic. Its a lighter its a little lighter than usual. Theres wrecks out there. That slows traffic where it had been doing well. This is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Thats not too bad of a backup. Its about a 15, maybe a 20 minute delay. But the traffic is going to be busy. Also this mornings commute is okay on the san mateo bridge. But when you get to the peninsula, you might want to stay on 92 and keep going over to highway 280 instead of 101. I will show you why. Southbound 101 on the lower peninsula and well go to the maps here. You can see that theres a crash here. A couple of crashes in menlo park at willow and that is just not doing well for traffic. Traffic is backed up for all the way out from san carlos down to the scene. You might want to take a scenic drive and avoid the traffic. Im tracing with my arrow here. The road sensors are doing very well. Its wide open for you on 280. Its a good alternate. Back to the desk. Theres now a memorial outside of fremonts john f. Kennedy school. Its for john webb. He was killed Early Saturday Morning while driving on interstate 680 near fremont. Ktvus brian flores is in fremont to tell us what happened and also the emotional memories from the people who knew him. Brian . Reporter yeah, for those that knew coach webb, they say he was just a guy that would always help others whenever he could. Here at the high school in fremont, school is out for the kids but that has not stopped some from paying tribute to the very popular loved coach. Theres a sign that says, thank you, coach webb, for everything and then the flag is being flown at half staff today in honor of the coach. Now, late saturday night, he was leaving the san jose state Navy Football game when the car he was a passenger in accidentally ran into a stalled car on 680 in fremont. Webb got out of the car and tried to direct traffic when the driver of a White Toyota Corolla struck him at 1 00 a. M. And he was killed. Nobody else was hurt. He was an institution at the school, he also taught english, math and wood shop. Those who knew him said his legacy could be felt by many even if he didnt play football. He wanted the kids to leave kennedy and go on do something, whether it be the school, military, whatever, but become successful people. That was always something that he strived for. Reporter now, webb was 7 of years old 76 years old. Some say he was considering come back to the sidelines and coaching even though he was retired. You are looking at a flag her. Happening today sufl Rights Groups will be civil Rights Groups to be speaking out against an alleged hate crime. Janine de la vega is live in san jose where the controversy is kind of gaining momentum this morning. Good morning, janine. Reporter good morning. Well, civil Rights Groups and Community Leaders will be holding a joint News Conference today with the University Officials here on campus at noon to condemn the actions of these four students who are accused of terrorizing a black freshman student. The naacp is also calling for more action. The naacp wants the Santa Clara County District Attorneys Office to increase the hate crime and battery charges against the four male students from misdemeanors to felonies. They also want the defendants to face a false imprisonment charge. The students are accused of putting a bicycle lock around their black roommates neck calling him racial names and barricading him in his room. The naacp will be calling on the university to conduct an investigation into why nothing was done sooner to protect the black student. The four teens accused have been suspended but some say thats not enough and are asking for expulsion. I think its a slap on the risk to just suspend them for what happened. I think the petition online i think its a good thing because it shows, like, the the voice of the students, the voice of the people who actually live here. Reporter on change. Orgs website there is an online petition asking the president to expel the four students accused. They also want housing privileges and Financial Aid taken away. The black Student Union is holding a black monday event to discuss what they want done. That will take place at 11 40 a. M. In the Campus Village quad. Happening today investigators in connecticut with planning to release a long awaited report on the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Some have criticized the state attorney in charge for blocking information about the release about the shooting. Hes gone to court to fight the release of 911 staps tapes. The Attorney Says hes only trying to protect the families of the victims. Last year, a gunman killed 26 people at the school, 20 of them children. He killed himself as police arrive. Bay area Tree Trimmers were busy overwhelmed by the trees toppled over by last weeks wind storm. This crew from Ponderosa Tree Service was running from job to job trying to clear trees that fell onto houses and cars. The owner of the company says he has not been this busy in years and they had to prioritize the job. They are helping people with serious damage first. Everyone else has to wait. Most of the stuff, dangerous stuff has been handled. Weve been triaging the work and trying to handle the worst stuff first. Another company says its been dealing with double the workload over the past few days. Jobs are lined up for the next two months. A deadly winter storm continues around parts of the nation. 13 deaths blamed on the storms, they have hit new mexico, texas and arizona. Yesterday 300 flights were canceled at Dallas Fort Worth airplane. The combination of sleet and rain is making it hard for planes to get off the ground. Dallas airport officials expect more cancellations. Holiday travelers flying in and out of oakland face another problem this thanksgiving week food and retail workers at Oakland International airport are planning to go on strike on wednesday. Thats the day before thanksgiving and one of the busiest travel days of the year. The workers say they are walking off the job to protest their current pay and benefits. They staged a similar oneday strike in august. Its not clear how the strike will affect airport restaurants and stores. Some Truck Drivers at the port are planning a oneday strike on wednesday. The drivers are pushing for better way. They are also protesting new air quality rules that require them to upgrade their trucks. The drivers are demanding the port help pay for the upgrades which are expected to cost tens of thousands of dollars. 7 39. In a couple of thundershowers, volunteers in san jose will pass out thanksgiving food boxes to thousands of needy families. Sacred Heart Community has been collecting turkeys for the last week, just so they can give the food boxes to 4,000 families. They are still accepting turkey donations. The families registered for the boxes earlier this month. The pickup starts at 9 00 a. M. It will continue until wednesday. At 8 00 this morning, volunteers at st. Francis, st. Anthony San Francisco st. Anthonys foundation will continue to collect turkeys for their annual dinner. They will be accepting donations at a curbside dropoff through thanksgiving. The Foundation Hopes to collect a thousand turkeys so they can meet the goal of surveying 4,000 meals thanksgiving day. 7 40. The woman jumped from section 301, an upper deck area above the south end zone covered by a tarp and closed to the public. The Good Samaritan who tried to catch her was by the flag poles and the al davis flame. She jumped 50 feet to the pavement after fans pleaded with her to stop. We were going on the air. All of these people were running by. You could see people running by. Reporter the Good Samaritan suffered serious injuries. Hes credited with saving her life. The woman is still in Critical Condition. Deputies have not released any identity but we do know this is the first year the man bought season tickets. Card program says most people are not using the cards debit function. The San Francisco chronicle says more than 4,000 cards have been issued since february. But only 80 people have used it as a debit card. The cards were created in part for immigration services. Last, with the city and the police union reached a tentative deal to restore a 10 pay cut put in place three years ago. Union members will begin to vote on the deal tomorrow. A new report shows that hundreds of underground leaks will go unmonitored because of a new state policy. Since the 1980s, more than 44,000 underground fuel tank leaks have been recorded in the state. But a change went into effect last year that allows some of those sites to end regulatory monitoring even if contamination is traced. The state said too much money was being spent on lowthreat sites. Marin county is a big step closer to banning single use plastic bags. Residents are being invited to express their opinions on the countys Environmental Impact report on the issue. County officials are expected to certify the report in late january. After that is done, cities and the county are expected to approve a ban on plastic bags. Lets go back to the desk. Happening today students will be speaking out about hate crime allegations four white students are accused of tormenting their African American roommate. Janine de la vega is live in san jose to tell us what the civil Rights Groups are asking for. Janine . Reporter dave, they want the four defendants to face harsher punishments and they want the university to dig deeper. Activists dont want this happening to another student. Now, this is all going to be discussed today at a News Conference at noon. The naacp wants the Santa Clara County District Attorneys Office to increase the hate crime and bat rit charges against the battery charges against the four male students from misdemeanors to felonies. They also want the defendants to face a false imprisonment charge. Students are accused of putting a bicycle lock around their black roommates neck calling him names and also barricading him in his room. The naacp will be calling on the university to conduct an investigation into why nothing was done sooner to protect the student. The four teens accused have been suspended but some say thats not enough and they are asking for expulsion. This cant be taken lightly. Its something that should not happen in 2013. You are at a place where you should receive education to alleviate your ignorance, not a place to practice it. Reporter there is an online petition asking the universitys president to expel the four students accused. So far, more than 1300 people have signed it. Now, they are also wanting housing privileges and Financial Aid being taken away. The black Student Union is holding an event at 11 40 a. M. In the village quad. Right after that is when the naacp and the university will hold their News Conference. That will take place in front of the johnny smith and john carlo statues. Back to you. Happening today investigators in connecticut plan to release a longawaited report on the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School where 26 people, including 20 children, were killed. Some have criticized the state attorney in charge of the investigation for blocking the release of information about the shooting. For example, hes gone to court to fight the release of the 911 tapes. Today, a judge said he will listen to the tapes, then decide later if they should be released. A memorial has been set up outside a high school in fremont to mourn the loss of a longtime coach and teacher. This video was taken outside john f. Kennedy high a short time ago. There are some flowers in honor of 76yearold john webb. He was killed Early Saturday Morning while driving on interstate 680 near fremont. The chp says he was trying to direct traffic away from a serious crash when another car hit and killed him. The tragedy has stunned the kennedy high campus. It just seems so surreal. I mean, even standing here, its kind of like, did this really happen . Its tough to take in. Hundreds of people are expected to attend a candlelight vigil vigil in honor of the popular teacher and coach. Its being held tomorrow night outside of kennedy high in fremont. Bay area Tree Trimmers had a busy weekend overwhelmed by all of the trees toppled by last weeks wind storm. This crew was running from job to job trying to clear trees to fell on houses and cars. The owner of the company says hes not been this busy in years and they have to prioritize the jobs. A deadly winter storm is already disrupting Holiday Travel plans. 13 people were killed as at storm blasted through as the storm blasted through oklahoma, texas and new mexico. Just like that. Forecasters say the storm is hard to predict. It appears to be headed to the southeast and the northeast coast bringing icy roads, snow, hail and floods. This is not texas weather, man. This is alaska or idaho. In oklahoma, the state Police Rushed to more than 600 weatherrelated crashes. Parts of arizona flooded over the weekend. The storm is expected to cause problems for the 43 million Holiday Travelers this week. Just yesterday, 300 flights at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport were canceled. The combination of sleet and snow made it hard for planes to get off the ground. Crews could not deice them fast enough. Dallas airport Officials Say they expect more cancellations. Holiday travelers flying in and out of oakland face another problem this thanksgiving week. Food and retail workers at Oakland International airport are planning to go on strike on wednesday. Thats the day before thanksgiving and one of the busiest travel days of the year. The workers say they are walking off the job to protest their current pay and benefits. They staged a similar oneday strike in august. Its not clear how the strike will affect airport restaurants and stores. You need at least 4,000 turkeys. Thats right. We have just enough turkeys today to get through the day. About 1500 right now. Were counting on the community to come through so we can have a thousand more 2500 by the end of the week. Reporter this is one of the boxes that many of the families will be received. Whats in the box . We have canned food, some dried foods, bread, we have produce for families, dessert, and, of course you, the thanksgiving turkey. Reporter and again, turkeys are in need still to feed up to 4,000 people. How can people drop that off . This is our donation station. People can come right here and drop off one or two or ten turkeys. We also can take donations because we can purchase any turkeys that we are short. Com. 8 46 police are investigating an accident that killed a 3yearold boy. It happened just after 1 30 yesterday afternoon when three people were walking down oak street and crossed vine street. Police say a car turned onto oak street and hit all three people. One was the child in the stroller. He died at the hospital. Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating.
