great weekend this weekend! >> exactly. good morning. little cool start but the headline will be just how warm it gets for the afternoon. record breaking warmth is what we're expecting. mostly sunny skies, a sideline going to be a little breezy out there. we have an advisory to talk about for later today, a forecast high sitting in the 70s in some cases, maybe even approaching 80s for some. we'll look at that, plus we have your fanfest forecast coming up in just a few moments. >> thank you. there are several major overnight developments in egypt to tell you about. want to first give you a live look at the streets of cairo as protestors continue to gather this morning. some leaders say they have met with egypt's prime minister to discuss president mubarak's departure and say the talks are at a stalemate. but egypt's prime minister insists stability is returning and he remains confident a resolution to the crisis can be reached without the immediate removal of president mubarak. meanwhile, this morning president obama is ramping up pressure on president mubarak to make an immediate resignation, urging him to listen to the people as they enter a 12th day of protests. also, near early this morning, there was an explosion at a gas compressor station in northern egypt. late word is it is due to a gas leak. but regional leaders say they suspect sabotage. no one was killed. an unusual tactic underway this morning to find google executive who disappeared from cairo more than a week ago after participating in anti- government demonstrations and there are reports he has been detained by the government. this morning one of organized anti-government youth groups named him as their spokesman. it's called a gutsy move to force the egyptian government to release him. government officials have been going meeting with the ledders of the opposition and the group says if the government wants to talk to them, it has to go through him. back in the bay area, demonstrators at stanford university showed their support for him and the movement. >> what he said is, i'm not fighting for my own right to democracy, i'm fighting for the person that can't stand for himself, the egyptian making less than two dollars a day, thrown in prison. >> google says it's doing what it can to find him. today a rally and march is planned in san francisco to show solidarity with all the people in the arab world fighting for freedom from repressive governments at the start of 1 this afternoon at the u.n. plaza on market and 8th streets. if you are headed to the city today, keep in mind that could cause traffic delays. two people lost their lives in traffic accidents in the bay area overnight. the most recent happened on southbound 101 near sierra point parkway. highway patrol says the fatality was part of a five-car pile-up around 3:13 this morning. officers and mare ed, say the person who died was unresponsive at the scene. five others were transported to san francisco general hospital with minor injuries. the freeway was closed for almost two hours until the scene was cleared. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. the highway patrol is also investigating a fatal head-on accident overnight in unincorporated alameda county after midnight between 680 and livermore. officers say a pickup truck collided with a honda on the two-lane highway. one person in the honda died. no additional information about that victim has been released at this time. officers are investigating to see if drinking and driving was a factor. now an update from a developing story we first brought you last night on the 10:00 news. a san leandro area surrounding the 600 block of victoria avenue, officers looking for a man who was connected to a shooting in oakland. the police perimeter and shelter in place stretched from kenilworth boulevard to bancroft avenue. police have not yet said if they found who they were looking for and have not released any other details on the shooting. oakland police are busy this morning in investigating three shootings that happened within the past 13 hours. the first shooting happened before 7 last night along east 19th street. police responded to reports of gunfire and found a man lying in the street. he did die from his injuries. less than an hour later a man was shot on west grand avenue. he was transported to the hospital where he is in stable condition. then a third shooting happened in front of a liquor store on foothill boulevard. two people were shot multiple times, they were taken by ambulance to the hospital and both are in stable condition. police say they don't know if the shootings are related and they have not made any arrests. in three hours, oakland city councilman jane bruener is holding a meeting to talk about ways to prevent violence in the city. some oakland police officers say they do plan to attend and it will be held at peralta elementary school at 10:00. today the san francisco giants are getting ready to welcome their fans back to at&t park. a huge crowd is expected at the fanfest. ali is live in san francisco this morning, and ali, as we saw the fans are already out there! >> reporter: they absolutely are, mike. there's a crowd of at least 200 fans out here in front of entrance to at&t park. and they're anxiously awaiting the doors to open for giants fanfest. now, all morning long we've seen a steady stream of people walking from the nearest parking lot here, making their way in their giants gear to the stadium entrance. the doors don't open until 11 a.m., that's still four hours away. although you can start buying tickets for the upcoming season here at 89 and a lot of people lined up are waiting to do just that. some of the people came from as far away as modesto, fresno, chico, bundled up in their blankets and pillows. we found an entire family who drove from fresno, they left the central valley at 11:00 last night, got to san francisco at 2 a.m. and have been camping out on the street since early this morning. >> have my brother, sister-in- law, their three kids. i'm here with my cory and hoping to get some tickets for some good games for the giants and upcoming season. >> got to get lanes come's autograph. all of them pretty much. that's why we're here early. >> fans can take pictures with the giants world series trophy. a lot of players will be on hand to sign autographs, baseballs and jerseys for the fans. doors don't open to the public until 11 a.m., but parking is free and lot a. however, organizers are expecting close to 40,000 people to show up today. this is the first giants fanfest since the giants of course, won the world series championship. so there is some extra transportation and you are highly recommended that you take public transportation and help out with that the ferry is running an extra ferry for marin county giants fans, muni has extra trains running to at&t park, and a lot of fans say the best part of the fanfare lear is the fact that it's completely free! admission is free. again, doors to the general public open at 11:00. these fans aren't going anywhere for the next couple hours so we'll memorial motorcycle ride will take place for four-year-old juliani cardenas. at 1:00 this afternoon the houle gangs motorcycle club will gather on sperry avenue. participants will ride their motorcycles to modesto in honor of jung juliani, one day after dna tests confirm the child's body found in the delta canal on tuesday was juliani cardenas, authorities say his mother tabitha has been notified and at this time no word on funeral arrangements. deputies say juliani was kidnapped by jose rodriguez, his mother's ex-boyfriend. dive crews pulled the car out of the canal last week. his body has yet to be recovered. good morning to you! a starting out with a look at the san francisco bay. isn't that just a gorgeous view! just a little bit of haze in some areas. napa valley nearly reaching that saturation mark. outside of that just a few high clouds. our temperatures a cool start in some spots, 30s for areas like napa and fairfield, 41 santa rosa. here into san francisco, 52 degrees. and below mid-40s around redwood city, 47 in mountain view. our temperatures really going to soar today. we'll be warmer than yesterday afternoon. we are expecting to break some records. we have a ridge in place over the california, you can see the clouds just rolling in. we've got a storm flowing into the rocky mountains, and that is bringing just that offshore flow. the offshore winds expecting to bring us pretty gusty conditions by today, and later in the afternoon we could even see a wind advisory. so a warning as the wind push through they warm coming down those passes and canyons. areas like big sur could be nearly 80 degrees by the afternoon. the rest of us upper 60s, low 70s. we're going to be breeziest the north bay, the hills, east bay as well as santa cruz mountains. again, wind advisory expected by 4:00 this evening or afternoon, lasting through the evening hours with winds gusting to 30 miles per hour. patchy fog to start the morning, just some spots. it's not bad at all but the afternoon high 72, expected in napa. 69 for oakland, 69 redwood city. your 5-day forecast, warmer tomorrow, lows not bad at all, in the low 40s. if you are going to be out and about, maybe a windbreaker because most of us are expected to be breezy by the second half of the day. we cool monday but stay above average for this time of year for the entire 5-day forecast. again we have your giants fanfest forecast coming up in just a few moments! super bowl xlv kicks off tomorrow afternoon in dallas. but snowy conditions could make it difficult for fans trying to get to the big game. right now things are good at the airport. no flight delays this morning. but several flights were cancelled yesterday morning. at love field flights are again taking off after being groundled much of the day yesterday, as much as 5 inches of snow has fallen in north texas in recent days. the national weather service says warmer temperatures are on the way. but snow and ice will still be on the ground for tomorrow's game. two people are still in the hospital after an ice accident at the site of tomorrow's game. it happened when chunks of ice fell from cowboys stadium yesterday. altogether, six people were injured. at least one person suffered concussion, another a shoulder injury. none of the injuries are considered life-threatening. and the price of super bowl tickets are down as more trips are being cancelled because of that bad weather. we did just check on stub hub, and right now the lowest asking price is $1800. still a lot, but that is down from two attacks in afghanistan. details of the identities and the exact locations of today's blasts have not been released. five nato service members have been killed this month. the u.s. plans to start withdrawing troops from afghanistan in july with the aim of handing over responsibility for the country's security to afghan forces. nato says it will pull out all of its troops by 2014. president obama gave his weekly address to the american people just a few hours ago. he calls for tax credits and financial support for clean energy innovations as a way to create jobs. >> if businesses sell these discoveries, if they start making windows and insulation and buildings to save more energy, they'll hire more workers. and that's how americans were prosper. that's how we'll win the future. >> mr. obama referred to his visit this week to penn state university where researchers are de psych more energy- efficient buildings. he also called for expanding high speed wireless internet access. celebrations continue today in santa barbara. ahead of what would have been former president ronald reagan's 100th birthday, sarah palin paid tribute to the republican leader last night. she was the keynote speaker at a celebration at the reagan ranch. she praised reagan for bringing government under control but also criticized the current administration. >> if president reagan were alive today to see what is happening to his beloved state, the hills of the central valley would echo with his outrage. nationally, for many of us today, that outrage, that moment of outrage, came with the passage of obama care. >> former vice president dick cheney will be the keynote speaker tonight at a dinner in santa barbara. more ceremonies honoring reagan are scheduled for tomorrow, his actual birth date. sarah palin is taking steps to protect her name. her lawyer has filed applications to trademark both her and her daughter's names. according to politico, the sarah palin trademark was filed last fall, just days after the midterm elections, and bristol palin's application was filed five days before she appeared on "dancing with the stars." many protect the use of their names on the internet. this morning memorials for the victims of the tucson shooting rampage in phoenix have been crude away. crews dismantled the memorial in front of the medical center almost a month. similar scenes played out in front of gabrielle giffords' office and in front of the safeway where the gunshots rang out. the candles, notes and trinkets are put into storage. volunteers say it's a bittersweet job. >> sweet in that we are acknowledging all the passion and emotion that came to the sight. bitter that closing a chapter. but time for us to move on. >> i think it's really nice that people have been doing this, and it's cheerful, but also sad. >> hope is in the future the memorial items will be displayed at a permanent memorial. this morning there's word controversial ruling made by the federal judge who was killed in the tucson shooting will be upheld. john wool was appointed to the bench in 1991, nearly three years ago he received death threats after ruling on a case. the ruling allowed a group of illegal immigrants to go forward with the lawsuit against an arizona rancher who they claim threatened to kill them. the rancher appealed the ruling, but this week the san francisco federal appeals court denied his appeal and upheld the 78,000 dollars in damages awarded to the immigrants. the bay area city getting an early start today on some spring cleaning. and a warning for parents about several kidnapping attempts at a south bay school. >> a calm, cool start to the morning. afternoon warm and a bit windy, giving you a live look at walnut creek, we're sitting understand fair skies. investigators in milpitas will continue their search this weekend for two men connected to three attempted kidnappings in the past 11 days. most recent incident happened thursday miracle veras hills high school police have the men approach the girls walking to or from school. the girls were able to run away and were note hurt. >> i will say this, that we're making this a high priority. we're deploying manpower, extra patrol, saturation, involving like i said the neighborhood watch program. >> the school district has sent out phone messages to all parents advising them to take their children to school directly. students are also being told to use the buddy system if they have to walk home. here is a look at the two men wanted. a latino man between 20 and 30 with short plaque hair. the other man is described as asian in his 30s, with straight black hair. a new grassroots volunteer effort to clean up antioch from crime will continue this morning. the neighborhood clean-up event will be held in just a couple hours starting at 9 a.m. at meadow creek park. the police department is helping with that event. target stores donated much of the supplies to help team clean up graffiti and other blight. >> we need your help, we need your eyes and ears in our community to turn this city around. >> today the event follows the first in what may be a series of public forums started by a young volunteer who is concerned about crime. about 150 residents packed a community meeting last night as part of the grassroots effort to take back antioch. the movement was started by 23- year-old who says the homicide took place in december right next to her home. >> i can see a crime scene on one window, and the middle school out of my other window in my home. i said, we're got to do something about this. >> the owner of an antioch ballet school also complained about repeated vandalism and said she's constantly cleaning up graffiti and says once the students are inside, safety concerns keep them in lockdown. east bay teenagers trying to land a job could find help later today. the cities of pleasanton and dublin and san ramon women's club are partnering to present the teen career development fair. it starts at 1:00 this afternoon at the pleasanton senior center on sunol boulevard. several workshops will be available, including finance management and interview techniques. a florida father is furious this morning after his three- year-old daughter and two other children just walked out of their daycare. it happened in miami, florida. surveillance video captures the three toddlers pushing open the door and leaving the center. they then made their way across the plaza 15 floors down to the marshals store where they were found just walking around. the little girls' father wants the school held accountable for what could have happened. >> very angry. very, very upset that -- it was an accident, but could it returned into an incident. could have been a tragedy. >> the school as it has no idea how the children got out but it has apologized saying better security measures need to be in prays. looking like a nice february hikers now says he has been denied access to his clients. shane bower and josh if at that time are accused of spying and illegally crossing the border. their lawyer is still hoping to talk to them for a couple hours before the trial begins. we're also learning this morning that the third hiker sarah seen there was released on humanitarian grounds but apparently now decided she's not going back for her trial, instead she submitted a letter through the swiss embassy. the egyptian prime minister says stability is returning to the country. appearing confident a resolution to the crisis are be reached without removal of president mubarak. but the protestors are telling quite a different story. show you live pictures right now over in cairo this morning. this morning some protest leaders say red hair. he is telling people in cairo he is canadian, to skirt hostility. he has been sending in stories and photos to the local newspaper. his parents say they call him daily. >> he has shown a great amount of courage. at the same time we've been hearing reports about people fleeing egypt. he is comfortable getting out on the streets, taking photos, interviewing people. he likes to be where the action is. and this is -- his time. >> security is in egypt to attend school where he is majoring in middle east history at the american university. his parents say tim admits he's exhausted and is living on instant noodles. the conflict in egypt is having a direct impact on prices at the pump. according to triple-a, as of this morning the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is 3.12, up more than 5 cents over the last month. prices will likely remain at least $3 a gallon until the conflict in egypt is resolved. thousands of people are expected at at&t park in just a few hours for the annual fan fests of the san francisco giants. and the crowd could be double what we saw last year! ktvu's ali rasmus is live now in san francisco with a preview of the big event. ali, i just got a message from a viewer saying he's been in line since 1:00 this morning and looks like he hasn't been alone. >> reporter: no, there are a lot of people who spent the night out here in front of the willie mays gate here at at&t park. all morning long since 5:00, along with the people camped out here, we've seen a steady stream of fans making their way towards the stadium. so the fans just keep coming with their giants gear, a lot of people this morning had their coffee cups in hand. everyone here is anxiously awaiting the doors to open to the general public for the giants fanfest. the doors are open until 11:00 but there's already a group of at least two to 300 fans waiting outside. mario alioto is senior vp of the giants operation, you're expecting a huge turnout. >> we are. we're expecting 30, 40,000 folks. it's hard to tell. but based on the excitement the last few days and the phone calls we're getting, i think we'll have a great crowd today what can people expect? >> most of our players are here. the ballpark has the baseball field and the field is ready to go so fans can walk throughout the ballpark. fans can walk on the field. the trophy is here, you can take a photograph with that. it's just -- like our official kickoff to spring training and the new season. although i will say it feels like the world series is three weeks ago and here we are ready for another -- another season. but we're just very excited the fans obviously are ready to go. >> will all of the players be inside? fans said my goal is to get as many autographs as which can. >> the main message is be patient. a lot of folks and players will be here for autographs and there's face painting for kids, there's so many attractions for everyone. but with this wonderful weather, it trains running, there are extra ferries running and admission is free. ali rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. ktvu has learned about a new effort to exclude some of the government's evidence in the upcoming perjury trial for barry bonds. his attorneys filed a number of legal motions late yesterday. in one filing bonds' attorneys asked the judge to throw out a tape-recorded conversation between bonds' trainer greg anderson and bonds' friend steve hoskins. on that tape, anderson allegedly says he injected bonds with steroids. anderson spent more than a year behind bars for refuse to go testify. bonds' attorney says the government should not be allowed to call anderson just to hear him refuse again to testify. in placerville the janitor accused of shooting a principal pleaded not guilty to first- degree murder. investigators say 43-year-old john luebbers told them he shot sam la carra twice on wednesday after he was sent home for the day because of a personal dispute. el dorado county prosecutors say they are not going to seek the death penalty. he is held without bail. a follower of the now defunct muslim bakery was sentenced to 10 years in prison in a kidnapping and torture case. in 2007, a mother and daughter were taken to a house in oakland and beaten and tortured. they pleaded guilty. they thought the women knew where a drug dealer had stashed thousands of dollars. back at home, police are on the hunt for an armed robber who hit a wireless phone store. he demanded money at the metro pcs store in pacifica just after 7:30 last night. he ran from the scene on foot. officers from several nearby cities and the highway patrol helped search for him. but the man got away. we have a description, though. he is described as a stocky african-american man in his 20s. he is about 5 foote 8, and was weighing a ski mask but he had a light skin complection and freckles on his nose. the police chief in oakland is staying put. he made the announcement yesterday after speculation he might leave. he was a finalist for the top police job in san jose. he did not get the job but hinted he was considering leaving opd anyways. he says the reason he is now staying in oakland is because of the community. >> the pre-schoolers sent this thing with a big note that says chief, please don't leave, which touched my heart. the reason i came to the city is to try to make a difference for the community, and the community responded and asked me to stand by them to that touched my heart. >> he needs more financial resource to fix the problems in the department. his focus now is getting a new police radio system up and running. san francisco police are investigating a major marijuana growing operation and it was all discovered by accident and all started when san francisco firefighters responded to a house fire at 6:00 lasts night. during this firefight crews stumbled on 300 maim tour marijuana plants. police say the house was empty except for the plants and they do not have any suspects at this time. the fbi is investigating a security breach at nasdaq. the wall street journal reports hackers have broken into nasdaq's computer system multiple times during the past year. those close to the investigation say the perpetrators did not manipulate trades. investigators say possible motives for the breach include financial gains and access to trade secrets. confidential information of some medi-cal beneficiaries may have been compromised in san francisco. the human services agency says a worker sent private information on about 2400 people to her home computer. she then shared it with with two attorneys and union representatives as part of a legal action. officials say they had begun to notify the affected individuals. good morning to you! starting with a look downtown oakland, just a bit of haze and that bess it. we've got fair skies overhead. we do have just a light breeze this morning. that's going to turn to a strong breeze in some cases. for the afternoon, record- breaking heat expected for today. now that only means upper 60s, low 70s in most cases. it's going to be gorgeous out there, just short of perfect, and the reason i say that is because we do have a wind advisory. breezy across the area with a very gusty conditions expected in the hills as well as the mountains, developing later this afternoon. right now sitting at 53 degrees, san francisco, mid-40s in oakland. 40 in napa, hazy and cloudy skies in the napa valley, and 40s in hayward, palo alto and san jose. you can see those clouds moving through. we've got high pressure over the east pacific. we've got a low slipping into the east rockies and we are right in between that will pick up the winds in the afternoon. you can see very light this morning. by about 4:00, 5:00 we notice picking up in around santa rosa, napa, and by 7:00, 24 miles per hour in napa, 13 right around livermore, san francisco and even grow stronger on east side here. concord and livermore, picking up to 18 miles per hour at times. should begin to die down in the overnight hours but could stay breezy through tomorrow morning with the wind advisory between 4 this afternoon and tomorrow morning around 10:00 for the east bay hills, north bay hills and santa cruz mountains. afternoon lies for today, we've got upper 60s, low 70s, even warmer than yesterday. sam mateo 68 for today. low 70s, mountain view, san jose, morgan hill, and even the possibility of nearing 80 degrees in some cases when we get those winds coming in from the offshore northeasterly breeze and they begin to funnel counsel the mountains and passes. they warm as they come on down and that could heat us up. your 5-day forecast, continuing with the warming trend through sunday. we do get a little cooler by the afternoon. on monday we're looking a little upper 60s, we remain above average and our blow not bad, in the low 40s as we get back to work on monday. if you're going to be out and about, we have your day planner coming up in just a few moments. the clean-up will continue in san francisco's chinatown this morning. the stockton tunnel will get a steam cloning to spruce up the neighborhood for the chinese new year holiday. we were there yesterday as crews cleaned up. that's the broadway tunnel, cleaned yesterday. they hit the streets and the public works crews cleaned up the alleys, illegal dumping. outreach crews were also in the neighborhood issuing citations and they were talking to business owners about the importance that is keeping sidewalks and the streets clean and clear. and in a few hours a lunar new year celebration will get underway in redwood city with lion dancers and food! look at that. that is a building in san francisco yesterday. chinese dancers, singers all performed for the public. there were also exhibits of the martial arts and caligraphy. the lunar new year is considered the most important holiday for the chinese community and blowing at the surface not too bad but higher up we have winds from 15 to 20 miles per hour. still looks beautiful outside and it's a lot different of a story in texas, where heavy snowfall is creating problems ahead of tomorrow's super bowl. reporter lynne is live now in arlington with a look at the conditions. how cold is it, lynn? >> reporter: it's been really cold this week! this is texas and we haven't been above freezing all week. there was a lot of ice on the roof of the stadium this week, and you know there's still a little bit left, but this is the first morning we started with sunshine. so we've had about two hours of sunshine. so it's starting to melt now. but this is yesterday. chopper shots show what it looked like as sheets of ice just started falling. six people were injured by the ice. it has been an incredible week. ice on tuesday, snow on thursday, freezing temperatures all week. but it's going to be okay. we're going to get by and get through the super bowl because we'll get above freezing today and hopefully the street and everything around the area is going to thaw out. mike. >> looks good. we look forward to it. in the bay area represented in that super bowl, green bay packers wide receiver james jones says he grew up homeless in san jose. the struggles in his early years of life inspired him to create the love jones for kids foundation. the organization partners to support education, housing and other programs for poor and homeless youth in san jose. a second bay area connection is packers quarterback aaron rodgers, the former cal berkeley qb grew up in northern california. at a rally led by the school president the community college changed its colors to green and gold, and showed support for rodgers. you can watch the super test to go students. the school held a forum yesterday with aids pioneer and 80 seniors are asked to take hiv tests. some students have acknowledged being sexually active but none expressed a fear of suv and those are some of the reasons one student started the project. >> i'm surprised that some kids never even thought and testing. >> the test something voluntary and minors do need parental consent. medical volunteers will officer the efforts if next week and the results will be confidence. a northern california woman is dead after being swept into surf and sonoma county. one of the dogs went into the water. north say the woman went after the dog and was overcome by a 10-foot wave. she died at the scene and the dog also passed away. salmon are whack in the delta. the department of fish and game say it counted 163,000 salmon last fall. that's the highest total since 2006. the count could be a good sign for fishermen because the delta provides much of the salmon caught off the northern california coast. but the pacific fishery management council is scheduled to meet next month to determine the length of the commercial fishing season. target has agreed to pay $toot .5 million to settle a state investigation into the dumping of hazardous waste. the metropolitan retail giant doesn't admit to any wrongdoing, but it will pay more than $3 million to the california attorney general's office. smaller sums will go to district attorney offices in 20 counties in the state. that settlement needs final approval by a judge. tax day is more than two months away, but some help is available this weekend if you want to get an early start. the united with the i.r.s. will tick off a free tax assistance program at 10:00 this morning at the college of san mateo. this morning's program is going to focus on the earned international come tax credit, sponsored by congresswoman jackie speer. a tax fight in berkeley centering on medical marijuana will soon be heard in sacramento. the berkeley patience group is getting ready to appear before the state board later this month to fight a $6 million tax bill. the state says the dispensary did not pay state sales tax for a three--year-old period starting in 2004. and an official with the group tells the times it should not have to pay because other prescription drugs are not taxed. also in berkeley a fixture in the city for seven decades is now closed. blake's on telegraph shut its doors after being open 71 years. we were there when the windows of the once popular hangout were boarded up. the building's owners says the restaurant defaulted on its lease. a wrong-way driver causes a major traffic nightmare for motorists in san diego. an 83-year-old man was driving a pickup truck on the wrong side of interstate 5 yesterday morning. police say he was going between 80 and 90 miles per hour when he smashed into a gas truck. he then hit the concrete of the overpass, spun into downcoming traffic and caused a pile-up. his car was completely split in half, but amazingly everyone involved in the accident walked away with only minor injuries. a close call between two military airplanes and a jetliner that element resulted in a midair collision and the hazing allegations threatening the hockey team in the middle of their season. >> we're looking at a fabulous day, maybe even break some records with the warmth giving you a live look at the bay from san rafael. 45 degrees and a bit of haze. we're learning this morning of a close call between a few airplanes. federal safety officials say an american airlines jet and two military planes nearly collided near new york city last month. federal rules called for a minimum five-mile distance between aircraft. these three were within one mile of each other. the accident was prevented by a collision alert system at a nearby air traffic control tower. the american airlines jet was headed to brazil. it was carrying about 250 passengers and 12 crewmembers. the san jose airport is look to be replace its 41 police officers and 12 firefighters with private security guards. the cost-cutting move would save an estimated $10 million a year. money that could keep the airport from losing more flights. a security firm is expected to lay out a management plan to the city council by april. if approved private security guards could take over as early as july. the school district is set to decide on a plan to close schools next week to help solve its budget woes. and that brought some angry people to the streets. dozen of children and parents from glenbrook middle school marched to district offices in concord yesterday in an effort to keep their school open. the district is facing a $1.5 million budget shortfall and several schools may be closed. >> we look at seven different cry tear yanks the conditions of the facility, and at the end the committee came up with some recommendations for the trustees. and glenbrook was one of schools. >> what is great about the school is they have a lot of different programs that other schools don't have. we have the after-schoolgirls science program, we have special ed programs other schools don't have. >> the school board is set to vote on a closure plan tuesday night. officials say next year's budget shortfall could be significant worse, maybe over $10 million. san jose state suspended its highly ranked hockey club team amid questions of drinking and hazing. last night the players watched as san diego state played texas a&m. san jose state was supposed to be in the game but the team had been suspended. there's no official explanation on the reason, though. but a source told ktvu that there is video of an underaged rookie player drinking alcohol from a skating booth. in another incident some teen members drank alcohol on a flight from an out-of-town game. >> we received a telephone call from a parent who was very concerned about behavior amongst some of the team members. >> i'm confident the players will be exonerated, from any of that, the allegations. >> the coach was the only one who spoke to ktvu after a closed door meeting last night about the investigation into the just a few moments. deadly traffic crashes overnight took the lives of two people. the most recent happened on southbound highway 101 near sierra point parkway in brings bine. the highway patrol says one person but killed in a five-car pile-up around 3:18 this morning. officers and paramedics say the person who died was unresponsive at the scene. five other people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries. the freeway was closed for almost two hours until the scene was cleared. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. the other fatal crash happened in alameda county before midnight. it happened between 680 and livermore. officers say a pickup truck collided with a honda on the two-lane highway. one person in the honda died. no additional information about the victim has been released at this time. but officers are investigating to see if drinking and driveway a factor. developing news in egypt. we're learning that the full body of the egyptian ruling party has stepped down. that includes president mubarak's son. the move was a gesture to anti- government protests. this morning some leaders met with egypt's prime minister to discuss president mubarak's departure but say the talks are at a stalemate. egyptian prime minister insists stability is returning and remains confident a resolution to the crisis can be reached without the immediate removal of president mubarak. meanwhile, this morning, president obama is urging the president of egypt to make an immediate departure. anti-government protestors making an effort to find google executive wael ghonim, who they believe is being detained by the government. ghonim disappeared from cairo more than a week ago after participating in the protests. this morning one of the organized anti-government youth groups named him their spokesman. it's called a gutsy move to try to force the egyptian government to release him. government officials have been going meetings with the leaders of the opposition and this group says if the government wants to talk to them, it has to go through ghonim. today a rally and march planned in san francisco to show solidarity all the people in the arab world. the march is set to start at 1:00 this afternoon at the u.n. plaza on market street. so if you are headed to city, just keep in mind this could cause traffic delays. the conflict in egypt is having a direct impact on the prices at the gas pumps. according to triple-a, as of this morning the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.12. that is up by more than 5 cents over the past month. analysts say prices will more than likely remain at least $3 a gallon until the conflict in egypt is resolved. turning to other news, in less than three hours the gates will open at at&t park for the annual fanfest for the world champion san francisco giants. the crowd is already there and a record crowd is expected to attend. ali rasmus is live in san francisco with the fan frenzy about to get underway. and what do you get for getting there hours early? is there an advantage for being there? >> reporter: well, according to some of these fans, they would say yes. one of fans i talked to early this morning who spent the flight here told me he had a plan for today. he brought 15 baseballs, four jerseys and his goal here was to get them all signed to give to all the family members. if i get here early he said i have a better shot of getting everything signed. you can expect there will be a long line to get all the signatures he wants. in our last tape we showed you most of the crowd and fans waiting to get inside were corraled in the area right in front of willie mays gate. now just a half hour later, let's show you the line goes all the way down the block, and around the corner, and they're all wide awake and bright i'd now. but when we got out here at 5 a.m. this morning, there were several dozen fans who had camped out yored overnight, in some cases entire families spent the night out in front of the park. some of them came from as far away as fresno, modesto and chico. there were families bundled up with pillows and blankets. and we caught up with the first person in line who said he drove to san francisco from chico. >> we don't need to be first in line, we just happened to be first. we got here really early, about 8:00. didn't show up until 10. and here with a budge of friends. and we just happen to be first. newspaper to we getting to in. it's nice. >> i got about 15 baseballs, four jerseys, pictures, all kinds of stuff. >> and that fan i was telling you about, his strategy was to get here early to get all of his gear signed. fans will also be able to take pictures with the giants world series trophy and players will be on hand to sign autographs so you can expect long lines. the senior vp of the giants says they're expecting 40,000 people to come to the giants fest. the doors don't open to the public until 11 a.m. however, starting at 9 you will be able to buy single game tickets here at the stadium and some of the people in line are waiting for to do just that. if you're driving out lear, we're told parking is free in lot a, not sure if it's full yet. so another good piece of advice would be to take public transportation. there's extra transportation, extra ferries running from marin county and muni has extra trains running here to at&t park. and one of fans says the best thing about this whole event is that it's absolutely free. admission is free, and the doors open to the general public at 11:00. morning after being grounded for much of the day on friday. as much as five inches of snow has fallen in north texas in recent days. but the national weather service says warmer temperatures are on the way. still, snow and ice will be on the ground for tomorrow's super bowl game. six people were injured at the site of tomorrow. 's game. it happened when chunks of ice fell from that roof of cowboys stadium yesterday. two of the victims are still in the hospital this morning, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening. we did talk to reporter in texas just within the last hour and she told us the sun is out and most of that ice is gone. the rough weather in dallas will prevent those attending the super bowl in person from seeing a military flyover scheduled just before the start of the game. the roof at cowboys stadium will be closed tomorrow because of the cold. instead officials plan on projecting the flyover ceremony on the giants high-definition video screens in the stadium. the screens are 72 feet high and 60 yards long. they do say everything is big they're in texas, and the site of super bowl xlv is no exception. as craig reports, cowboys stadium has mind blowing technology. >> reporter: welcome to cowboys stadium by costed more than a billion dollars to build. the egypt are coming in fast this morning. just within the past 18 minutes, a bomb has gone off in an empty church in northern egypt. no word if anyone was injured. 45 minutes ago, the full leadership body of the ruling party stepped down. that does include president mubarak's son. this move was a gesture to anti- government protests. this morning some protest leaders met with the prime minister. they say talks are at a stalemate. but the prime minister insists stab silt returning and the crisis can be resolved without the immediate departure of president mubarak. today a rally is planned in tim stewart is from windsor, who stands at 6 feet tall with red hair. he's in egypt to attend school, where he is majoring in middle east history at american university. since the uprising started he u.s. hikers held by that country on charges of spying. and this morning the lawyer representing them says he has been denied access to the two remaining in custody. sarah shourd was released last september but shane bower and their friend josh fatal. she submitted a letter instead of going back for the trial. they were arrested in 2009 after they accidentally strayed into iran while hiking near the unmarked border of iraq. there have been three shootings in the past 14 hours in oakland. police say the first shooting happened shortly before 7:00 last night along east 19th street. police responded to reports of gunfire and found a man lying on the street. he later died from those injuries. less than an hour later a man was shot on west grand avenue. he was transported to the hospital where he is said to be in stable condition. and then a third shooting happened in front of a liquor store on foothill boulevard. in that gunfire two people were shot multiple times. they were taken by ambulance to the hospital. both are in stable condition. police say they do not know if the shootings are related and they have not made any arrests. in three hours, oakland city councilman jay bruener is talking about ways to prevent violence in the city. some oakland police officers do plan on attending that meeting. it will be held at peralta elementary school in oakland. a special motorcycle ride is going to take place today in honor of four-year-old juliani cardenas. the boy was pulled from the delta monday. at one this afternoon the hooligan's club will gather at the jack in the box in patterson. participants will ride bikes to modesto. the money raised during the event will go to juliani's family. today's ride comes one day after tests confirm the child's body found in the canal is that of juliani cardenas. his mother has been notified. there's no word yet on funeral anxiousments. he was kidnapped by rodriguez, his mother's ex-boyfriend. his car was pulled out of the canal but his body has yet for recovered. firefighters keeping a close watch on san francisco's castro district after four suspicious fires have happened in the same neighborhood over the past couple days. no one injured, but at least 10 people are homeless and nerves are frayed. most recent fire happened just before 4 a.m. yesterday, when someone set fire to an ornament al plastic screen on a porch. the castro merchants association says its members are now on high alert. >> to see this doorway across the street that has been obviously torched, that's pretty sketchy. i don't like that. >> two victorian homes seriously damaged. san francisco police asking anyone particularly early morning joggers or dog walkers to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior. a giant crowd of black and orange is expected this morning for the san francisco giants. the team's annual fanfest kicks off at 11:00 and tickets go on sale in just about 30 minutes. ali rasmus is live now at at&t park with what is going on now. hi, ali. >> reporter: that giant crowd is already here. there's 2 to 300 fans in front of the will eye maze gate here at at&t park. but the line of fans has continued to grow, down to the end of this block, and makes a left turn and goes down around the corner to the end of the other block over there. all these fans are anxiously awaiting the start of giants fanfest, the doors open to the general public starting at 11 a.m. and mario alioto, how many people are you expecting? >> we're hoping throughout 30 or 40,000 folks. and we usually get in the 20s. this year with the excitement we're prepared for a lot of -- huge crowd. >> and the stars a aligning, the weather is great and the this is the first fanfest where they won the world series. >> that's right. the first time the fans can go back into the ballpark since game two. to have the players back at at&t park and see the field for the furse time, to get ready for the new season, there's a lot of excitement in the air. >> inside the ballpark what are some. attractions? >> you can see it the world series trophy and take a photograph with that. or just about all of our players are here. get autographs, i would say to be patient because there will be a lot of fans looking to get autographs. the lines might be long, but just be patient because all the guys will be here all day and the fanfest store opens at 11:00. >> what are some of the rules about the limits of things you can get? we talked to fans who had 15 baseballs he wanted signed? >> we like to try to accommodate as many people as we can, and the rule if you can get one autograph per fan, and oftentimes we try to rotate the players different stations. and the players will be spread throughout the ballpark. it's open today, upper deck, lower deck, the field. so it's one per autograph and we'll try to keep the autographs moving. there's only so many players so we'll do the best we can. >> if you want multiple things signed, it's one per turn, you go back to the end of the line and start over again. >> one per turn, then go back to the end of the line. by the time you get to the front of the line again, it at the metro pcs store in pacifica just after 7:30 last night. the gunman escaped by running away. officers from several neighboring cities and the highway patrol helped in the search but the man did get away. now we have an updated from a developing story from last night. a neighborhood is back to normal after a police search and shelter in place order. that's all now over. officers searched several blocks centered around victoria avenue in the 10:00 hour. they were looking for a man in connection with a shooting in oakland. no other details on the shooting were released. and police didn't say whether or not they captured a suspect. a big marijuana growing operation is now under investigation in san francisco after firefighters discovered 300 plants. it started when san francisco firefighters responded to a house fire at 6:00 last night on bay shore boulevard and visitation valley. during the friar fight crews stumbled on the plants. firefighters then called san francisco police. investigators tell ktvu the house was empty at the time of the fire the search for the person responsible is now underway. good morning to you. a live look at walnut creek. tape and skies their eye didn't 'tis and the exact locations have not been released. five nato service members have been killed this month. the u.s. plans to start withdrawing troops from afghanistan in july, with the aim of handing over responsibility for the country's security to afghan forces. nato says it will pull out all of its troops by 2014. a memorial underway less than an hour from now for a palo alto teacher who unexpectedly died last weekend. 43-year-old george was a fifth grade teacher. he may have died from meningitis and health office say the risk of infection among students is minimal. but they did give out antibiotics this week at a precaution. the memorial is from 9:30 to 11 this morning at hoover elementary on charleston road. a rash of robberies in the east bay has business owners concerned for their safety. oakland police tell ktvu robbers have hit four industrial businesses in the last six weeks. all four businesses are within about a one-mile radius. the most recent happened at baker marble and granite company on tuesday morning. the business owner says the robbers took his wallet and ordered him to the ground before searching a front office. >> they come back and says, where is the cash? and say we don't center any cash! we take checks and credit cards. >> other businesses target including a metal fabrication company and a roofing company. police believe the same people are are responsible for all four incidents. after weeks of speculation oakland police chief says he is staying put. that's made the announcement yesterday. the chief was a finalist for the top police job in san jose. he did not get that job. but hinted he was considering leaving opd anyway. he says the primary reason he's staying in oakland is because of the community support. one day before the super bowl, the cold weather is still creating big problems in and around dallas. snow prevented some of the flights from landing at local airports yesterday, and six people hurt after chunks of ice fell from the roof of cowboys stadium. lynne is live now in arlington with more on the conditions in the area now. i know you said it was sunny earlier. how does it look now? >> reporter: we now had about four hours of sunshine, and boy, what a difference it has made! the ice on top of the stadium has started to melt, and it doesn't seem like that's a problem anymore. but yesterday we have video from our chopper and you can see sheets of ice falling from the roof of cowboys stadium. people below running for cover. six people were injured by the falling chunks of ice. it has been an incredible week here in north texas. ice on tuesday, snow on thursday, freezing temperatures all week! some celebrity parties were cancelled because they were outdoors. camps for kids outside were moved inside, even the players, supposed to practice outside, they had to move their practices inside. for fans trying to get here with airports closed, streets closed, icesee, but we're going to get above freezing for the first time in a long time, and we're going to thaw just in time for the big game. counterfeiters hoping the super bowl will mean big business. but law enforcement is saying not so fast! federal agents have been busy arresting counterfeiters flooding the dallas area with fake nfl jerseys. many of the arrests made at flea markets. fake jerseys have also been discovered at t-shirt shops, sports stores and on craigslist. the total value of the phony jerseys is estimated to be around $3 million. of course, the super bowl is going to be right here on ktvu. fox coverage starts in just 24 hours. a little more. you can catch it all at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning after mornings on 2. law enforcement on the lookout for drunk drivers in san francisco tonight, calling it the pre-super bowl sobriety checkpoints set for 8:30 at geary and steiner. the checkpoint is funded through a grant from the national highway traffic safety administration. the fbi is investigating a security breach in a stock market. the wall street journal reports hackers have broken into the nasdaq computer system multiple times during the past year. those close to the investigation say the perpetrators did not manipulate trades. they were just apparently looking around. possible motorists for the breach include financial gains and access to trade secrets but the paper says investigators may be facing a more serious national threat aimed to damage the exchange. an arizona sheriff is urging his deputies to use caution when eating at mcdonald's. officials say a uniformed deputy was verbally hayed in spanish by food handlers in mesa. both he and the maricopa county sheriff were accused of being racist. the deputy con front them in spanish and refused to accept his food. officials say that mcdonald's was part of an i.d. theft investigation last year. the owner of the restaurant says he takes the allegations seriously and is gathering all the facts. sheriff's deputies in arizona are investigating a drug dealing case involving middle school students. it happened friday in litchfield park when investigators say a teacher caught a student dealing drugs on the playground. the teacher stopped the student and deputies were called to the school. but nine sixth grade students were taken to the hospital. the drug dealing student had marijuana and other prescription drugs in a backpack. parents are obviously now very concerned. >> i'm disappointed but know it happens everywhere, it will happen in every neighborhood. >> child protective service important holiday for the chinese community and in the calendar this is the year 4709 on their calendar. clean-up continues in chinatown this morning. yesterday these were the crews from the department of public works cleaning up the alleys of dumping. crews also issued citations and reached out to business owners to talk to them about the importance of keeping sidewalks and streets clean and clear. the stockton tunnel will get a steam cleaning today as part of the big push to spruce up that neighborhood. getting into bay area museums today is not going to cost a dime for some people.
