The council will have to wade through several competing proposals as they try to cool the redhot rental market. They claim sheriff laurie smith released Text Messages from deputies that contained racial slurs and they say that breaks rules to protect private records. The union filed the suit. No one is above the law. Clearly there are issues here systemic issues that we have been discussing at length that were brought out in the blue ribbon commission. And that we hope to make the jail safe for everyone. No comment from the sheriff. In the meantime the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department says a couple of drunk inmates attacked deputies inside the elmwood correctional facility in milpitas yesterday. As inmates were being removed the fight began. One deputy required stitches after being kicked in the face. The inmates were fermenting fruit turning it into alcohol. A surfer was rescued on ocean beach. He was clearly shaken up. They gave him a medical exam before putting him into a stretcher into an ambulance and he is expected to be okay. The rescue comes days after two teenagers were swept to sea at the same beach. Now San Franciscos supervisor eric marr wants to improve the signage at the popular beach to warn about the dangers posed by strong rip currents. Surveillance cameras captured the gunfire last thursday across from the cal campus on kittredge and folsom streets. The homeless man was not injured. A man charged with two felonies after a deadly hitand run in pittsburg this morning. He sped past a patrol car, led him on a chase, hit a pedestrian and crashed through a fence at the delta view golf course. Then he tried to run away. Cops tracked him down a few blocks away. He has been identified as [ non english language ] from concord. He has a suspended license and is on probation for a prior dui arrest. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor. After five years, the spillway is finally finished. The remainder of the new dam is still being built. It is replacing the smaller and older dam. This replacement project is to build an earthquakesafe dam. Reporter when you move nearly 7 million yards of rock, youre bound to find some surprises like fossils. We have whales and whale bones and shark bones and things like that we found up on the hill up here. Reporter thats not all they found. The original construction crews nearly 100 years ago buried a lot of stuff on their way out. Like piles of mule shoes and wheels from wagons and old tools. One day they found something shocking we also found old unused packages of dynamite. Our jaws were just looking at it and they were picking at it which are hammers and we go whoa, wait a minute, wait a minute reporter but after being buried in the dirt and mud for nearly 100 years, the alameda bomb squad declared the sticks harmless. The dam replacement project is projected to cost 810 million. Its hard to imagine but engineers say in about three years, the dam will stretch completely level across the canyon. Thats Calaveras Dam site. Don ford, kpix 5. The dam will be the largest sfpuc reservoir in the bay area when its finished. The bay area is overdue for a costly earthquake. Scientists say the fault that stretches from north of reno and lake tahoe to south of Yosemite National park has been quiet for decades. They expect a magnitude 7 quake along the Eastern Front of that fault on average every 3 years. A 6 quake strikes every 10 years. Reporter i talked to the dealer and he wasnt able to offer an explanation to us or his many customers about what happened but this video that surfaced on youtube seems to show one of his employees taking a customers car out for a joyride that includes driving at high speeds and possibly taking drugs. The video starts with what looks like an audi technician in the service bay then someone gets behind the wheel, revs the engine and hints at whats to come. This is going to be fun. Reporter the owner posted this video on youtube allegedly taken from his dashcam last week which recorded a highspeed joyride on the streets of palo alto. [ laughter ] [ engine revs ] reporter the video is like a reallife replay of a memorable scene from the movie Ferris Buellers day off in which two garage valets take a classic ferrari on a joyride. But this video is even stranger than fiction with the camera still rolling the audi driver parks and appears to snort something. Audi of palo alto did not want to speak on camera but issued a statement that says, quote, an unfortunate incident was brought to our attention earlier this past week. We immediately began our investigation and have already taken action. The dealership refused to say whether the employee seen in the video was involved. Whether anyone was disciplined or fired. The dealer did try to remove the video but several copies are going viral. We tried but could not reach the owner of the car in question. He was expected to win in new york where his business is based. Meanwhile, to the democrats. Hillary clinton is leading over Bernie Sanders but it is still too early to call. I mean, you know, donald trump has built the empire in new york. Hillary was a senator there, if they didnt win and these are not final totals it would be embarrassing. But they are coming off serious losses trump in utah and wisconsin and hillary a string of losses, a slew of losses. They needed this even though it was predictable. The delegate map obviously very important here and trump really had to win. He had to win big. So how many does he pick up and how much closer is he now to the nomination . Remember in new york the gop allocates delegates by Congressional District so well actually have to get all the results from all the Congressional Districts before we know how many he gets. If he gets all 95 he would have twothirds of the delegates need to be the nominee before the convex gets started. So it would be a big win for trump although i must point out he would still need some votes from california. Yeah. Thats still coming. And you know, each of these states has different rules. And thats where a lot of this confusion gets started. And in new york, i believe that independents are not allowed to vote in the primary. You have to declare one or the other democrat or republican. And for Bernie Sanders, thats a big negative. Thats true. You have to declare a year in advance. Today has been a mess. The secretary of state in new york is reporting 5 times as many complaints as he has gotten in the 2012 general election. So those independent votes are hurting Bernie Sanders in the polls he was predicted to finish within about 12 points of Hillary Clinton and the results are showing a bigger span between them and that seems to indicate that thats what happens when he cant get the independent vote. We have the conventions in july but next tuesday we have another contest. So whats at stake here . Next week is the next big contest and i want to make it clear we are almost done. Actually next tuesday [ laughter ] we keep saying this but i swear were almost at the end. Next tuesday we have maryland, connecticut, pennsylvania, rhode island and delaware are all voting and thats going to be the next big election day and then the subsequent next big election day is us so thats kind of it. And for the republicans, theres about 172 delegates at stake in california. Its going to be big. Those are another group of states that trump and clinton seem to be doing well in. Ill point out that four out of those five states also have closed primaries. And these independents cant vote in them either so that doesnt bode well for sanders. You cant say its going to be vague.
