San Francisco State senator scott weiner authored the bill saying its about giving local governments more control and celebrating the different needs of each city and neighborhood. Its called saver life and basically, its going to pay people to save their own money. Half of all americans dont have enough savings to cover an unexpected 400 expense. Thats according to the Federal Reserve bank. That means sometimes people cant pay their rent or pay property taxes or utility bills. That costs the city of San Francisco 24 to 54 million every year. Now, thats where saver life comes in. The idea is to get people to start saving just a little bit each month. Residents can sign up and if they are able to put away 20 a month for six months, saver life is actually going to throw in another 10 per month on top of that. Basically another 60 paying people to save. Now, all that matching money is coming from Nonprofit Group earn and also corporate sponsors. Once enrolled in the program, people will also get tips from Financial Planners to help them prepare for the future. So the city is looking for 1,000 residents to sign up for the program. They are hoping that once people complete the sixmonth program they will be in the habit of saving a little each month hopingfully helping to make meeting unexpected expenses easy to cover like medical bills, car repairs, Something Like that. Fire crews are heading to the scene. No delays on 101 looking good past sfo. The lights came on at the bay bridge toll plaza so a backup formed beyond the 880 overcrossing. 13 minutes from the maze into San Francisco. Right now, firefighters are on the scene of a big fire in san jose. It started in an abandoned office building. Jackie ward is there with the latest. Reporter so some firefighters have actually already cleared out of this scene. They were able to put this out quickly. As you can see, a lot of people still here though just making sure nothing flares up, no hot spots. It started at 2 20. It developed into a threealarm fire quickly. This twostory building on williams road in san jose is abandoned and boarded up. It used to be a dentist office. Witnesses tell san jose fire they think they saw Homeless People fleeing from the scene. There were reports that they were homeless. So the fact that the building had no power and was boarded up, its likely that it might have been Something Like that. Reporter san jose firization fireworks didnt cause it. We have new video of a brush fire near los angeles. It started in Rowland Heights in the area. Several homes were threatened. They got it under control before it did any major damage. Crews are still on the scene for hot spots. In San Bernardino county crews are trying to contain a 20acre fire. It moved towards Silverwood Lake yesterday and some campers were evacuated. A car caught fire and spread to nearby vegetation. Its 15 contained. In camarillo, a fire near 101 came close to cars. It burned 50 acres, about 30 contained. Police are trying to track down the suspects who stole a utility truck from a fire station. Officers found it in San Franciscos dogpatch neighborhood. So a local couple decided to roll out this massive carpet of bubble wrap on the main street.
