The good news is the fire is ufrnd control and out tonight. No one was hurt. Firefighters let that fire burn, that heavy dry brush on the island burned for several hours tonight to try to address fire daung over. It is unseasonably high this year. By evening, chopper 5 show it had fire had flared to several acres fueled by an overgrowth of tender, dry brush, burning as hotly as it would have during the dry, summer months. George watched it raging from across the delta in antioch. It kind of spread big ir and a little bigger. Three buildings burned and a handful of people had to be evacuated as the fire formed a ring around a smattering of structures. The lack of rain and unseasonably dry conditions just makes fire conditions just as bad as in the middle of fire season. The intensity of the fire, a direct result of severe Drought Conditions that have caused fire ston wear on months longer than normal. What made matters worse, the location of the fear on an island that you can only reach by water. Nobody even showed up out there for about twoandahalf hours. Thats because firefighters were scrambling the figure out which island was burning and how to get there. Because its inaccessible by land, you cant dust drive up to it. Instead, firefighters battled the flames from the water and from the air. And firefighters doebt have an official cause tonight. People who live here did tell me that island is full of abandoned cabins. Sdwre heard in christins report is fire daeng out there is as bad as the middle of firen. Maybe this year we are in the middle of fire season because it never got sxet with we never really goot that fuel, that ground cover as much rated. Just 14 days into 2014. San jose police are investigating the third homicide of the year already. Gunshots heard in the area of loma verde drive about 5 frnltd30 this evening. Police found a mans body. Police searched the area and talked to some neighbors, but so far no arrests. Also, in san jose tonight power is coming back on in a neighborhood where an arsonist has been on the loose. More than 6 thousand customers lost power near downtown when a car slamed into a power pole on san antonio street. We just checked. Fewer than 300 customers are without power now. And tonight we learned that a deadly fire in palo alto was an accident. Investigators say the fire started in the kitchen friday night, a cigarette or faulty electrical appliance. Two men were killed in that fire. At least 18 people in the bay area now died from flu complications. Today several pharmacys in marin county replenished their flu vaccine supply as Health Officials scramble to get people vaccinated. Flu shot cannot cause the flu. If you happen to get sick within a couple weeks of getting st flu shot, its because you had something already brewing. Pharmacies will be receiving thousands of vaccine doses in the next couple of days. Meanwhile the jail is under lockdown of sorts after three confirmed cases of swieven flu prompted authorities to restrict visits. The jail is taking Health Precautions but not quarantining those sick inmates. Three teenage boys admitting to sexually assaulting a Saratoga High School student who later hanged hearst. The incident happened at a party in 2012. 15yearold audrey pott was so humiliated she took her own life. Two of the boys finished serving 30day sentences. The third is in the middle of a 45day sentence. A new Mexico Middle School was overcome with terror when a gunman started shooting inside the gym. Bob orr tells us the shooter was a calm, stonefaced seventh grader. Students were gathering in the gymnasium preparing to start klasses when a 12yearold 7th grader calmly walked in. New Mexico Police chief said at first no one saw a weapon. We believed that it was in a bag. We believe it was concealed. It wasnt known until right before he started shooting that the weapon was in there. Sources say the alleged gunman used a shotgun and the shooting lasted about ten seconds. Two students were hit. A boy was shot in the face, and a girl in the arm. The boy is in critical condition. The girl is listed as serious. Please, keep these two children in your prayers. We have a 12yearold and a 13yearold who were shot while simply sitting in their gym waiting to go to klass. Witnesses say after shooting the two students, the gunman was confronted by a school staff member and a state Police Lieutenant who had rushed to help after dropping off his own child at the school. I would describe havings a pergers syndrome as being like a computer thats running a different operating system than what most computers run. 16yearold Austin Miller wasnt diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder until he was 12, but even when he was a toddler, his mother karen noticed he had extreme reactions to sound. I learned very early on with him that i had to speak slower and softer because it would upset him, and i would notice that he might not really understand what im saying. Researchers have long known that kids with autism struggle with communication. For the first time, scientists at Vanderbilt University have shown one reason why. A typical person sees me talking, and its in sync. In many kids with autism, theres a delay between what they see and hear so they experience speech like this, out of sync. Its as if theyre watching a badlydubbed movie where the words and pictures dont match up. One of the klassic pictures that you see is children that will actually be covering over their eers. Theyre trying to filter out thoo confusing information and focus only on one thing, lets say vision. His team has develop add videogame to try to help kids with autism practice putting sight and sound together. One of the researchers said sound process sg delayed with autism so kids see the picture half a second before they hear the sound.
