They say their daughter fought to stay alive, but she didnt make it. We look at other families that things happen to and we think, oh, my gosh, theyve had one or two things go wrong, and now its us. We have deep deep faith. Our faith isnt quite to the point where were ready to forgive but were going to move on and think about kate and whats going to be our legacy to her. Theyve gotten the guy. Reporter San Francisco police were in the bay today along pier 14 looking for evidence after the shooting of kate steinly yesterday. There does not appear to be any connection between the victim and the suspect. At this point it appears to be a random shooting incident. The motive is still under investigation. More officers will likely be out for the Holiday Weekend. Very surprising. Reporter now, police say both the embarcadero and Fishermans Wharf are patrolled regularly and they are asking anyone with information about either crime to contact them. Park rangers have closed them due to toxic algae blooms. They are closed off but the parks will stay open. Popular swimming holes for dogs like lake shabo and caster valley are also experiencing the same blooms. The park workers say the dog owners should keep their pets out of the water because the blooms can be deadly. The recent spike in those toxic blooms is linked to the drought and our warm weather. Anything helps. Thats the mentality on the peninsula where a popular water saving program is being extended. San mateo county workers have been handing out 100 rebates to people who buy rain barrels. The barrels collect rainwater from the roofs of homes which is then used to water lawns. So far, 500 rebates have been issued. Five of the six who died were students from ireland who had come here to get summer jobs and they were up on a balcony on the fourth floor when it collapsed. There were 13 young people on the balcony when it came down. Six killed seven more injured, several of them critically. The balcony remains showed evidence of dry rot. The city ordered the balcony and the one below it removed from the building and the Alameda County District Attorney began a criminal investigation. Today the da and the attorneys for the builder were in court as the builder attempted to get a court order forcing the da to let the builders experts join the investigation. We just want to opportunity to inspect it before its further any further Destruction Testing or dismantling of these balconies takes place. Reporter the drks a strongly objected. And he said da investigators are duty bound to preserve evidence. We do that all the time. Thats what Law Enforcement officers do. We have every intention of preserving the evidence. The city is refusing to talk about that decision but a private building inspector, mack cantor says no question it has hampered the investigation. He survived and is now out of the hospital. Police say the shooting stemmed from an argument and was not related to the pride celebrations. The usgs released a new study that finds the states northern coast is eroding at an alarming state. Its disappearing by about four feet per year. San jose cools down. We added the extra humidity today. 73 degrees not all that bad. Sun on the hills east of downtown. Kind of a dramatic view now around sunol. 84 degrees. Sun streaks breaking through the clouds there. The clouds actually benthicening up here over the last half hour. More moisture pills off the sierra and gives us another chance of showers coming up this evening. Look at that in the radar coming up. Lowlevel clouds and mist and fog that is the story around ocean beach moving around San Francisco this evening. Mist and drizzle, cool temperatures. Unfortunately this could be a bit of an issue for fireworks along the coast of San Francisco as we head into the weekend. The sea breeze is starting to come back. Its cooled off the coast and brought in the low clouds across San Francisco tonight. But whats happening in the mid levels of the atmosphere higher up the winds are still out of the southeast. So notice here on the radar now, as you head out to eastern Contra Costa County starting to see a little bit of light rain or some sprinkles there starting to come in from the east. Give you the wide angle view on this you can see the thunderstorms which have been forming in the sierra weakening as they drift off to the west. This is the next round of moisture. Right around the same time we saw last night that is being pulled in our direction. Normally thats over in arizona and new mexico. But an area of low pressure offshore offshore, high to our east funneling in that moisture which at least for the next 12 hours into tomorrow morning will give us one more chance of seeing scattered showers or briefly isolated thunderstorm. From 7 00 tonight to 10 00, especially out by livermore, where we saw the lightning and the hills off to the east last night, future cast bringing in another batch of showers across the trivalley and into the north bay, right around midnight to 2 00 a. M. As we approach the friday morning commute, what will there be of it on a holiday friday temperatures again in the 50s and 60s. As we get ready for the Holiday Weekend, most showers moving offshore at that point. And we should see clearing skies and a much dryer forecast. At least for inland locations. Less humidity as we head through the next few days. High temperatures tomorrow a little bit warmer. Probably less cloud cover for the afternoon. Thats going to help temperatures get close to 90 around los galos. 87 in san jose. San francisco, upper 60s to low 70s for the north bay. Low 80s for the afternoon. You will see the trivalley. Its warm but not nearly as hot. Couple of days ago. Mid 80s around dublin. 90 in pleasanton. 92 degrees in livermore. So as we watch whats going to happen as we go through weekend, sevenday forecast brings a bigtime cool down next week. This will be the sea breeze turning even stronger. Upper level moisture which is coming over the bay area tonight will instead be focus tond sierra. Watch out for Thunder Showers and the high country as we go through the weekend. For us in the bay area seeing low clouds and misty skies as we go through the weekend. The next three days for the Holiday Weekend, fourth of july here on the left. Monday there on the right.
