This east bay reservoir looks pretty full now, but it may not be for long. Despite the drought, some of this water will have to be released well before summer to protect the delta. Issue is the salinity of the water and its effect on fish and farmers. To reduce the high salt content, the contra costa Water District is releasing stored treasure water from another reservoir into the delta. But there is concerns the problems could be long lasting. Reporter Laura Anthony has the details. Reporter normally the water coming into this intake facility near Discovery Bay would be relatively fresh, thanks to an influx of rainwater and outflows from the sierra to the north. But this year at this pump station and three others the contra costa Water District is finding salinity levels have surged upwards. In some cases we are seeing salinity levels about three to five times what we would be seeing this year. In order to keep the Water Quality high, contra costa Water District has had to release water from their primary Storage Facility at this reservoir, but sooner than they would like. This reservoir is providing benefits to us this year with more supplies available for blending. However, it does not make us immune to drought conditions. In fact, the district is looking at a drought Management Plan that may include a call for greater conservation so that it doesnt get too depleted. And its not just Water Quality thats impacted. Farmers and fishermen up and down the delta will feel the effects of the higher suspicious meatball lynnty levels possibly for years to come. But where you will see the effect on the fishery is the overall numbers in the years to come. This year will be a very bad year for spawning for signed bass, for surgeon, and then when you dont see the mature fish eight or nine years from now. The recent expansion for the reservoir has been a big help. That project was gleeted in 2012. There are at least preliminary studies underway to expand it again by 70 . We will get the numbers closer to average throughout a couple days for the upcoming work week. 52 in San Francisco, 50 oakland, 51 san jose. Los gatos 47 for you. The exploratorium camera we are looking at the cooler numbers in north bay with the fog in the north bay. The delta in the mid40s. The visibility from santa rosa, a quarter mile there. Half moon bay. And the fog is moving through the golden gate. It is a shallow marine layer because higher pressure is pushing down on the atmosphere. It is compressing the marine layer to just a couple hundred feet. You can see it pulls away for a time being today but we still have patches of fog at the coast. You can see a glimpse of that full moon, patchy fog, warm inland, cooler coast and spring arriving on thursday. It is going to feel little more like the season with some breezy winds. Temperatures back into the 60s and 70s. But as for today still High Pressure you would holding on for another day. The temperatures allowing for the inland areas to come up a couple degrees while the on shore gradients allow for the coast to be a little cooler. So the swells will be picking up again today as well. That strong system push to go the north. The risk of sneaker waves, and this will take us right through monday morning. High temperatures Todd Wellemeyer into the 70s in the east bay valleys. Tomorrow we come down to 67. High temperatures today ranging from just the 350s with the cloud cover in youre reeka but we are all the way up to the upper 80s in los angeles. 64 in yosemite. 75 in yosemite, 64 in the northern sierra.
