The iowa power farming show tried to give new life to the industry. But right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Good morning, this is the david geiger. The iowa power farming show has exhibited new technologies of agriculture now. For more than a hundred and 20 years. This year the weather caused it to get off to a slow start. But when i was there the last day on thursday it was packed. The farm economy has been headed to the downside for a couple years now. One of the hardest hit ag businesses by it has been Big Equipment dealers. One of the main patrons of the of the show. The power farming show says there has been a scale back on Big Equipment. Like combines. Or tractors. But they say other producers make up for it through sales of hay. Fertilizer. Tillage equipment or other ag tech. Despite cutting costs in some areas. Theres an air of optimism that prices wont stay low forever. When prices are low, you still need storage so those exhibitors are doing well. You still need to transport grain so those exhibitors are doing well. It gives opportunity for farmers and producers to service maybe from dealers, so theres still a lot of trading of dollars. The panama canal looks like its getting another delay. The opening of larger locks is not expected until later this year. After already being postponed multiple times by construction delays. It was a five point two billion dollar expansion that was originally set to finish in fall 2015. The Panama Canal Authority says the larger locks should be open for commercial use early in the second quarter. But a date has not been set. They estimate work at 96 percent complete. With new locks already operational. However. The authority wants to make sure the locks are working perfectly before opening. The new locks triple the capacity of the canals infrastructure. Allowing passage for much larger container ships. Last week in the grains. The trade slowed to a crawl. I spoke to analyst mike seery before the market close on friday. Weve just gone sideways for months. I just dont see much action occurring in the harvest will start to take place here in the month of march. In south america but theres just very little fresh fundamental news, as traders are awaiting next weeks crop report but sideways action, the volatility will increase. We only have four more weeks left of winter. And then spring planting will be on everybodys mind in the month of march, so, youre going to have to be patient but things will perk up here in the next four to six weeks. These are high prices, weve had a nice rally of about 7800 points its been difficult to get above 138 in the april contract. If youre a producer, im definitely telling you to take some advantage of this. I dont know what to tell you on this one. Im still bearish, and if youre a producer hedge here at these highs. Yeah, for us to go above another 500 points will be difficult in my opinion. Unless a real problem develops but as were getting out of the winter months things should improve in my opinion. So, im not giving up on the trade, thinking of entering the short position here soon. And that wraps up the show today. Thanks for joining us on the agribusiness report. For decades, treating coronary involved using tiny metal stents to prop open clogged arteries in the heart. And they dont come out which doctors say can cause problems. But a new type of stent was put to the test. Martie salt shows us why this one is fueling hope for 850,000 patients and their doctors. Frank ukset knows all too well the burning chest pain that thats why he joined more than twothousand volunteers for a study that would help him. And help doctors advance cardiovascular technology. This is something that theyre using in europe and its now over here. The study compared traditional metal stents which are permanently implanted in the artery to experimental ones that dissolve after two or three years, leaving behind a restored blood vessel. The stents need to do their job during the first six months, first year then we dont need the stent anymore. Once the vessel is healed, then why do we need a foreign body . However, the study showed average results. After one year, the percentage of patients who developed heartrelated problems was sevenpointeight percent with the dissolvable stent, and sixpointone percent with a metal stent. Also, onepointfive percent of dissolvable stent patients developed blood clots more than twice those with metal stent that dissolves could reduce longterm complications in the artery like inflammation. And thats not the only benefit. Allows for future bypass surgery. It would allow the vessel to return almost to normal at the site where the stent was placed. Frank ukset has had no problems so far. I feel perfect after that. But he and the other patients in this study will be monitored for another five years to see if there are any longterm complications. Im martie salt reporting. Trt 1. 31 oc std the study was only 1 year long, not long enough to see if there are any side effects when the stents dissolve. Now a longer study of 5 thousand patients is now underway.
