I havent seen much of it. It does seem that most of the criticism was registered by people who struggled to pronounce the name of the virus at the hearing. So we might not be too concerned about some of the partisan criticism that was on display, i think, in the hearing. Lately when a Government Agency comes before this committee especially and tells me theres nothing to worry about, and we got this, thats when i start to worry. On capitol hill today, lawmakers talking about the ebola and the government response to it. Meantime, the president at the white house, meeting with the dallas nurse, nina pham. One of the reporters heard president obama saying lets hug for the cameras to reassure the public apparently. 85 of the nurses say they are not adequately trained and the level of preparation for ebola in our facilities is in position. 68 of rns still say their hospital has not communicated any policy for admission of a potential ebola patient. Thats one of the topics, obviously dominating all of the discussion. Lets bring in our panel. Kirsten tower kirsten. The ebola hearing i think what is sort of striking about the way the ebola thing is playing out, today we have this press conference before the show where Chris Christie and andrew cuomo were taking steps that the cdc and the Obama Administration never considered. And it turns out, these are from blue states. It turns out that at the local level, even in new york city of all places, there are lots more things the government can do to stop the spread of ebola than what the federal government has been doing. I dont think theres a lot of panic about ebola in this country, people talk as if theres a lot of smug people in the main stream media talk about how theres a panic in this country. To the extent theres any panic now, its a panic of a crisis of confidence that the so some the same people that rolled out the obama website. Its irrational to be a little nervous about that. And we have a lot of condescending stuff, a lot of people in the main stream media, a lot of people in government who make it seem that any rational concern about this is irrational. At the risk of sounding smug and condescending. When you turn on any news station, there is this sense that we are on the verge of a pandemic, when i think we all know the chances of that happening are extremely minimal. And i think that perhaps, i dont know, but im just saying, its very, very, very minimal and i do think a lot of people im constantly having people who are completely ramped up by all of this talk and fear that ebola pandemic is around the corner. I think the government needs to be prepared to deal with this, if for no other reason, if theres not a pandemic, that doesnt mean they need to be re ready for this. There are nurses and doctors that should not be getting sick because the government is prepared. So i think thats a fair criticism, but i do think theres been too much of this story line. The fear is that were all afternoon the corner of being taken by by ebola. The margin for error is so low and because the government in this case has demonstrated its incompetence on the issue. We have seen so many false its perfectly natural and i think it will be almost odd if we didnt have citizens that are very concerned about it. Representative lynch who is a democrat from massachusetts saying when i hear the government, when i hear a Government Agency giving me reassurances, thats when i become concerned. Hes speaking not only to the concerns that i think people have about ebola, i think hes speaking generally to the lack of faith in our institutions and in particular, in government. I think its one of the reasons that all of this talk is so unhelpful, the democrats go into the election in 11 days. In the meantime, you have this concern about lone wolf terrorist attackers. Heres what the Deputy Commissioner in new york city said. He did say something. I think at this point, from a preliminary standpoint, if you ask the question, was this an act of terrorism, it appears at this point that that was the suspects intent. We still have a little more investigative work to determine if we can document that in another way. Jonah, you know, this is after obviously canada and we saw the shooting and another incident in canada and the authorities there say theyre not directly related. But the bottom line and theres the hatchet guy in new york. They may, according to their facebook or social media be inspired by these islamic radicals overseas. Theres been arrests in paris and arrests in london that also fit this profile. Essentially what were seeing is a new age of crowd sourcing terrorism. Sort of do it yourself terrorism. And al qaeda never seemed to inspire as many losers to do this kind of stuff as the Islamic State is doing. Its very difficult for the existing intelligence apparatus, Law Enforcement apparatus to deal with people who are selfactivating terrorists. My suspicious is that some of these people, i know theres a big debate, whats islamic, whats not islamic, these guys strike me as basically sociopaths who are using an excuse as a they like the idea of converting to islam because its an excuse to kill people. But talking about that is not a bad thing, right . No, of course not. But it is a question of whether or not were dealing with people who are mentally ill, invoking islam versus the 9 11 attackers who were as far as i can tell, from middle class or wealthy families or educated. It was a completely different profile. As we go through this Workplace Violence and we go through hassan and, you know, it takes a long time to get to the point where jon miller just said in new york. Im a mom on the side of thats okay, it takes time to deal with what this is a person that was put over the edge or was this person doing an act of terror. Everybody should be okay with waiting to get the facts. That hasnt been the problem. Whats been the problem, is that the Obama Administration, even when it had the facts were making claims that were counter factual that wasnt true. We have known that hes not an isolated extremist. The problem with these lone wolf attacks, we have been seeing them for years now, but the explosion of this, is isis doing something beyond just general messages to activate them, we dont know the answer to that, but it certainly is disconcerting. Each week we ask to you vote online. In the lightning round for your Favorite Panel topic. This week you chose the fight for kobani, syria, against isis. Were back with the panel. There is also a report about isis possibly using chlorine gas. Take a listen to the questions about that today. How concerned are you that they are also using chemical weapons . Weve seen the reports, and were continuing to investigate them. We obviously, as we have in the past, we are taking seriously allegations of chemical weapons use. Its not an active investigation from a d. O. D. Perspective. I think, tom, its important to remember what our role and mission are there. Were advising teams there at higher and flying air strikes, but were not in present in iraq in any numbers. Were either investigating or not. Gentlemen . Yeah. Another confidence booster. You know, last time i was here, i said that we lost kobani. I think weve lost kobani. Weve stepped things up. I also think that as evidenced by this clip you ran, i think the way this administration is running this war is still driven primarily from a Public Relations point of view. Thats whats driving the femp tempo of it and i dont think thats changed. Thats what were seeing in kobani as well. I think its the u. S. Has i think doing the air strikes has been good, but i dont think its enough, and i think that obviously there has to be something on the ground, whether its u. S. Troops, which nobody really wants to do, but if its not going to be u. S. Troops and then there have to be better partners on the ground who are trained properly, and according to reports they are only training about 5,000 to 10,000 people, which is insufficient. This is going to be hard. We can make a little bit of progress, but theres going to be no way to really win unless theres on the ground, you know, better partners, i think. The white house and the pentagon ought to agree on whether were investigating the use of chemical weapons by isis. Its not confidenceion spiring that they dont agree. If were not investigating, we ought to be investigating. It matters if isis is using chemical weapons in iraq, in syria, and elsewhere. Okay. Pick a race. Midterm. Quickly down the road. Steve. My race is the wisconsin governors race. Its back and forth. Scott walker came into office to erase a deficit. Did it very controversial. The state is split down the middle. Its one of the states where the battle for independence really will matter. Mine is georgia which was considered a real long shot. Probably a year ago if were looking at it. Its the one seat the democrats thought they could potentially pick up, but it was alg an absolute long shot. Its now neck and neck with the democrat actually two to three points up. It will be a really big deal, i think, if democrats win the state. If you dont get to 50 , they jonah. Colorado senate race. Colorado was supposed to be the model of the future of the democratic party. It was purple turning blue. Its also supposed to be placed where the war on women was supposed to work. Its backfired. Cory gardener is doing shockingly well. He is a good candidate, and he is undermine ogt entire theory of the democratic party. How lightening could our winners and losers be . My winner this week is steve hayes, who is finally off the terror watch list. Nice. Remains to be seen whether america is a loser, but his premature action. My other loser is cnns Carol Costello who gave unbelievably smug and condee sending schatenfraud about the palin family. She should have apologized sooner and better. My loser is president obama who is just getting no love from democrats. Mark said he wasnt relevant. Kay haagan wouldnt even say whether he was a good leader or not. My winners are special agents hurricane and jordan, the two dogs that fought off that vicious man who jumped the fence, and they are back on duty. My loser, the parents of the girls who appeared in that fbomb feminism video. Horrible parenting. My winner is kevin vickers, the sergeant at arms the house of commons, who killed the terrorist. That was a good moment. Thats it for the panelists. Good time seeing his honored. Stay tuned. [ inhales ] [ male announcer ] at cvs health, we took a deep breath.
