Good afternoon, and welcome to Bbc News. The Business Secretarys been holding crisis talks with Energy Firms this morning, amid worries of big rises to Energy Bills in the coming weeks. Five smaller Energy Suppliers have already gone bust, unable to cope with a 70 hike in the cost of wholesale gas since august. Its understood the government is considering offering Emergency State backed loans to companies. 0fgem has confirmed British Gas has agreed to take on an extra 350,000 customers from the collapsed firm peoples energy. And the uks sixth largest Energy Company, bulb, is seeking new funds to try to stay afloat. Downing street says it wants to fix the issues as fast as it can. Our Business Correspondent Emma simpson reports. Gas, the cornerstone of our Energy Supply and the cost of it is rocketing. There has been a surge in global demand and not enough supply. hello and welcome if you re watching in the uk or around the world. president putin has announced a partial military mobilisation to help fight the war ukraine. in a television address, president putin said the west wanted the end of russia just as it had brought the soviet union to an end. it comes a day after russian occupied territories in ukraine announced votes on joining russia. that mobilisation the first since world war ii is aimed at those with previous military experience and begins today. 300,000 reservists will also be called up to reinforce the russian military in ukraine. mr putin also said that he would support independence in areas of eastern ukraine currently controlled by russia backed separatists. here s some of what president putin said in his address on russian television. translation: | repeat, | we are talking of a partial mobilisation only. 0nly people in the military reserve will be drafted. the priority will be on people who served in the armed

the united nations is leading a global appeal to help pakistan cope with the devastating floods which have left a third of the country under water and killed more than 1,100 people. provinces like sindh and balochistan in the south are the worst affected but mountainous regions in the north west have also been badly hit. the crisis is not over yet as heavy rain continues and water surges down the indus river. sean dilley reports. in some parts of pakistan, it s been relentless. more than 33 million people have been affected by flooding in the country s heaviest rain for more than a decade. this year s monsoon season has claimed well over 1,100 lives since june. more than 3,500 kilometres of road have been damaged, and over 993,000 homes, too. in the northern city of sukkur, temporary retreat for families washed out of their homes. translation: our houses have i collapsed because of the floods. we had a home and it was enough for us. now all our belongings are buried und
