The Curious Case of Kadarius Toney

I can’t lie I didn’t really know much about him coming into the draft. In all honesty I thought he was a running back/return guy so I wrote him off as a player we would be interested in. Horn, Surtain or Waddle were the guys we had to take had any of them been there at 11. I personally wanted Parsons. I can’t but help think Smith was never going to be our pick at 11 based off of what we did at 20. If we wanted Smith at 11 so bad wouldn’t we have just taken Rashod Bateman at 20? The Eagles and Cowboys wanted to screw us and I feel they both came away feeling stupid. I liked both teams drafts in their own right but I am happy the Cowboys didn’t get one of the top corners and the Eagles just seem a mess. The trade down to 20 seemed a bit far as the clock was ticking and players were coming off the board but the extra draft picks next year kept me at ease. Kadarius Toney was the pick and I was like who? I immediately pulled up YouTube to throw on the highlights. I liked what I saw and thought well shit we actually wanted Waddle and Gettleman had his eye on the next best thing! As Ed would say KUDOS to him! After a week of digestion and highlight binges I think I would have even taken him at 11 and the draft capital next year was the cherry on top. The pick was outside the box and refreshing for a team that lacked playmakers last season. There are so many ways to deploy this guy just go watch the All-22 vs LSU last season and you have a blueprint of how we need to use him. I can’t help but imagine both Toney and Saquon lined up in the backfield. If Saquon isn’t ready right away we have another playmaker ready to go. Toney is not just a WR. Tyreke Hill should not be the comparison and neither should Tavon Austin. Toney is unique and profiles more as a Tariq Cohen/Alvin Kamara type player (Tariq Cohen at Minimum). If you think he will only be lined up in the slot you need to think again. He will be in the wildcat taking direct snaps, he will be catching passes out of the backfield, jet sweeps, WR screens and shots deep down field. He is a player the defense will always have their eye on. Combine that with the weapons we added plus Saquon and we have the potential to be a top 10 offense. I love the pick and still can’t believe we got Ojulari at 50! Just shows that the mocks are almost always a fun waste of time. Let’s go big blue! Anyone else planning on going to Tampa to see us spank the Super Bowl champs at home?
