Wednesday had been a painful, tearful and numbing day, one of the toughest of my life.
In the morning, I was a pallbearer for my best friend. Les Harvath was a star center fielder for Duquesne University in his day, and he graduated as the school’s career stolen-base leader. He became a long-time high school history teacher and baseball coach, and his district championship team advanced to the finals by beating a Pittsburgh Central Catholic pitcher named Dan Marino.
