STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission has announced that an offer made to one of the candidates for the city’s vacant Chief of Police was declined.
Brent Plisch, the current Assistant Chief of Police with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department, was offered the position but withdrew his application in a letter to the Commission late last week.
Plisch did not elaborate on his reasons for declining the position, only saying the reasons were “complex.”
In a statement, Police and Fire Commission President Gary Wescott said that they would pause the search “for a few months to evaluate the civic environment before initiating a new search for Police Chief. Wescott added the pause would allow the city to re-establish itself as a place that will attract the “best and brightest progressive law enforcement minds.”
