STEVENS POINT – Nine months after former Police Chief Martin Skibba resigned amid a scandal, the city s Police and Fire Commission is hitting the reset button on its search for a replacement. The commission offered the job to Brent Plisch, assistant police chief with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department, but Plisch turned it down, according to an email from commission President Gary Wescott to city officials. Former Police Chief Martin Skibba resigned on June 19. He had been on administrative leave or suspension since early March 2020, while the Police and Fire Commission investigated claims he was drinking on the job as well as other allegations about his conduct. ....
By Mike Leischner Stevens Point Police STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) â The Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission has announced that an offer made to one of the candidates for the cityâs vacant Chief of Police was declined. Brent Plisch, the current Assistant Chief of Police with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department, was offered the position but withdrew his application in a letter to the Commission late last week. Plisch did not elaborate on his reasons for declining the position, only saying the reasons were âcomplex.â In a statement, Police and Fire Commission President Gary Wescott said that they would pause the search âfor a few months to evaluate the civic environment before initiating a new search for Police Chief. Wescott added the pause would allow the city to re-establish itself as a place that will attract the âbest and brightest progressive law enforcement minds.â ....
By Mike Leischner Feb 2, 2021 6:35 PM STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) The Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission has signed a memo of understanding with Mid-State Technical College to begin the process of planning and developing a state-of-the-art firefighter training facility in the city. “This is a major step in the training facilities for firefighters in Central Wisconsin,” said Fire Chief Robert Finn. “This will not only help the firefighters in Stevens Point and Mid-State Technical College but also fire departments in the area.” Stevens Point Fire Department Training Officer Trevor Howard said when completed the training site will offer firefighters the required resources to practice for any situation they may encounter. ....
