TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The No. 13/26 Florida State track and field teams will continue their indoor season this Friday and Saturday at the Texas Tech Open in Lubbock, Texas, and the Bob Pollock Meet in Clemson, S.C. The Noles will send primarily sprinters and jumpers to Lubbock while the distance runners and the throwers will head to Clemson. The Texas Tech Open will be streamed live on ESPN+. Quick Sprints The Bob Pollock Invite is the third and final time the Noles will travel to Clemson this season. The Noles previously traveled to Clemson on Dec. 3 for the Clemson Invite and on Jan. 14-15 for the Clemson Opener. The Noles will be one of eight Power Five teams to compete at the Texas Tech Open. Head Coach Bob Braman enters his 18th year as the head coach of the Florida State track and field team. Braman has won 14 (10 men’s, 4 women’s) outright ACC Indoor Championships. Braman’s 14 combined championships puts him second all time in the ACC and first among active ACC coaches. Braman brings in three new assistant coaches in Alex Midgett (Distance), Doug Reynolds (Throws) and Leevan Sands (Jumps). The men come into this weekend ranked 13th while the women are just outside of the top 25 at 26. Monday marked the 26th-straight week that the FSU men have been ranked inside the top 15 of the USTFCCCA rankings. The women won the 2021 ACC Indoor Championship for the first time since 2018. The men and women swept the ACC Outdoor Championships for the first time since 2014. The men finished 6th and the women 16th at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Noles return 18 All-ACC athletes which is the second-most in the ACC. The Noles return 11 qualifying athletes from last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships. The Noles have had seven athletes tally FSU top 10 performances so far this season: Lauren Ryan (5000m run, Mile), Don’drea Swint (60m Dash), Edidiong Odiong (200m Dash), Ruby Stauber (800m Run), Jacore Irving (Triple Jump) and Megan Cook (Weight Throw). Trey Cunningham holds the world lead in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.56. Cunningham (60m Hurdles), Odiong (200m) and Swint (60m) each hold top five times in the NCAA. Cunningham was named to The Bowerman Preseason Watch List prior to the indoor season. Cunningham is the first Nole to appear on The Bowerman Watch List in three straight seasons (2020-22). Cunningham (60m hurdles) is one of four athletes in the history of Florida State to win four consecutive ACC indoor titles in a single event. Rafeeq Curry (2003-06), Kimberly Williams (2008-11) and Lacy Janson (2002-05) are the other three. Cunningham received an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19 and can become the first FSU athlete to win five consecutive ACC indoor titles in a single event. There are five athletes and one relay team that hold indoor school records: Adriaan Wildschutt (5,000m, 13:30.55), Trey Cunningham (60m hurdles, 7.51), Isaac Grimes (Long Jump, 8.35m), Lauren Ryan (5000m, 15:40.40), Ka’Tia Seymour (200m, 22.82), and the Distance Medley Relay team of Alyson Churchill, Ediong Odiong, Yasmine Abbes and Maudie Skyring (10.57.24). Isaac Grimes (Long Jump) won silver at last year’s NCAA Indoor Championships while Trey Cunningham (60m Hurdles) won bronze. The women return seven indoor All-ACC athletes while the men return 11 All-ACC individuals. The Noles have a load of experience with the men’s team having 19 seniors and the women’s team having 24 seniors. Adriaan Wildschutt (3000m), Trey Cunningham (60m hurdles) and Isaac Grimes (Long jump) are the lone returning ACC Indoor Champions. The Best of the Best Trey Cunningham, Don’drea Swint and Edidiong Odiong all had phenomenal weekends at the Clemson Invite on Jan. 14-15. Cunningham holds the world lead in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.56. Swint ran the third-fastest time in the NCAA and the third-fastest time in FSU history in the 60m dash with a time of 6.53. Odiong sits fifth in the nation in the 200m das with a time of 23.34. Consistency is Key The men came in at No. 13 in the first USTFCCCA rankings of the season. This marked the 26th-straight week the Noles have been ranked inside the top 15. The last time the Noles were outside the top 15 was Mar. 10, 2018. It’s A Weekly Thing The Noles have already earned three ACC Performer of the Week honors through just two meets this season. Don’drea Swint and Edidiong Odiong earned the honors on Jan. 18 while Alonie Sutton was honored on Dec. 7. Ryan Breaks School Record in Boston Lauren Ryan wasted no time sketching her name into the Florida State track and field record books, as Ryan broke the school record in the 5000m run on Dec. 4 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass. In just her second indoor meet as a Seminole, the Brighton, Australia, native broke Militsa Mircheva’s record of 15:43.30, which she set in 2019. Ryan posted a time of 15:40.40 to finish ninth in the field. Ryan is now the fourth current Seminole to crack the top 10 list in the 5000m run, joining Rebecca Clark (No. 5), Elizabeth Funderburk (No. 7) and Alyson Churchill (No. 9). Cunningham Named to Bowerman Preseason Watch List; Grimes Receiving Votes Florida State hurdler Trey Cunningham has been named to The Bowerman Preseason Watch List while jumper Isaac Grimes is receiving votes for the watch list. Cunningham is making his eighth appearance on The Bowerman Watch List, the most among active athletes. This is the first time Grimes has made an appearance or received votes on the list. Both athletes will look to become the Noles’ first Bowerman semifinalist since Maurice Mitchell in 2012. Ngoni Makusha is the is the lone Nole to win the award in 2011. Cunningham is just the seventh Nole to appear on The Bowerman watch list as he joins Mitchell, Makusha, Andre Ewers (2019), James Harris (2014), Charles Clark (2011) and Kimberly Williams (2010-11). Last Time Out The Florida State track and field team wrapped up the Clemson Invite on Jan. 29. The team picked up four first-place finishes and 11 personal bests on the weekend, kicking off their spring season on a high note. The Seminoles dominated in the sprints this weekend with first-place finishes from Don’drea Swint, Trey Cunningham and Edidiong Odiong. Jacore Irving started the day for the Seminoles with a second-place finish in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.67 meters, just 0.2 meters behind the first-place finisher. Ruby Stauber earned third place in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:07.68. Stauber is a graduate student transfer from Vanderbilt and today was her first competition in the Garnet and Gold. The women’s team went first and fourth in the 200m dash. Odiong placed first with a time of 23.34, followed by Ka’Tia Seymour in fourth with a time of 23.69. Odiong’s personal best time places her fourth in Florida State history and is the second-fastest time in the country this season. FSU’s Sam Field ran a time of 8:25.50 in the men’s 3,000m to place third. In the women’s 3,000-meter Riley Bahr ran a personal best time of 10:07.73. The day ended with the 4x400m relays. The women’s team (Klein, Odiong, Toombs, K. Seymour) finished fifth with a time of 3:43.22. The men’s team (Willis, Watkins Jr., Collier, Butler) finished fourth with a time of 3:13.69. The Noles were tripped up on the final turn of the first leg losing precious seconds. On the final leg, Clemson and Kennesaw State’s teams did not finish leaving DaeQwan Butler running by himself for nearly the entire last leg.
