Edward Harney and three other skydivers jumped from 14,000 feet in the air at Sky's the Limit Inc., a skydiving company in Smithfield Township, Sunday. Authorities said Harney's parachute appeared to open about 5,000 feet from the ground before it separated from him, sending the Paramus man spiraling down into a wooded area east of Airport Road.
Harney was an experienced diver who had jumped at Sky's the Limit Skydiving Center multiple times, Pennsylvania State Police said. An autopsy of his body Tuesday morning revealed that he died of multiple traumatic injuries. Yanac declined to provide additional information.
Two other men in their 70's have also died in accidents at Sky's the Limit. In 2007, George Flynn, 75, of New Jersey, and Theodore A. Wilson, 70, of New York, died after their chutes became entangled and they fell about 75 feet to the ground.
