Elmer Arpod Nagy entered his eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at St. Peter's Hospital in Melville, SK, with his family by his side, at the age of 87 years. Elmer was born on July 24, 1927 on the farm west of Otthon, the son of Joseph and Irma (nee Balog) Nagy. He attended Oak Hill School until he completed his Grade Eight. He worked on the family farm and was also employed at various jobs in lumber camps, construction sites and machine shops as a mechanic. Elmer married the love of his life, Eunice on July 3, 1950. They settled in the Oak Hill district and farmed for over 50 years and were blessed with seven children. Elmer enjoyed farming, loved the land and he worked hard to make his farm a success. He ran a mixed farming operation and had raised many animals, but had a particular love for horses. He would hitch them up and his family enjoyed many sleigh rides at Christmas time. Elmer loved his family, and was proud to say he had seven children and enjoyed telling people how many grandchildren and great-grandchildren he had. He loved babies and his family will forever hold in their hearts the memory of him dancing around the living room to Al Chorney's fiddle music with a child in his arms. All of his grandchildren enjoyed spending time with Grandpa. Elmer and Eunice retired to Yorkton in 1998, but he continued to drive out to the farm and lend a helping hand when ever he was needed. They had a winter home in Arizona for many years where they enjoyed square dancing, playing shuffle board and Elmer became a pretty good ball player. While home in Saskatchewan for the summer they enjoyed camping and fishing and they continued to fish right up until last summer. Elmer and Eunice moved to the Caleb Village in 2013. They enjoyed the companionship of the residents and thought it was the best place for "old people" to live. Elmer was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Murray (1983) and Brent (2002); a daughter-in-law Florence (2007); his four brothers and many in-laws. Elmer leaves to cherish in memory, his wife of 64 years, Eunice; his children, Lois (Gerald) of Crystal Lake, SK, Lynn (Brent) of Melville, SK, Lee (Wesley) of Yorkton, SK, Glenn (Colleen) of Yorkton, SK, Jasey (Susan) of Melville, SK; daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Trevor) of Yorkton, SK; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida (Russell) Daggot of Invermere, BC and Ethel Jones of Rimbey, AB, as well as many, many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Henry's Roman Catholic Church in Melville, SK. Father Francis Hengen of St. Gerard's Roman Catholic Church, Yorkton, SK was the funeral celebrant.
