Bastrop council to adopt rules for fee-based electric bikes, scooters


The Bastrop City Council is poised to adopt a new ordinance to regulate electric bicycle, GPS-equipped bicycle and motor-assisted scooter services in the city.
The City Council on May 25 voted 4-0 to approve the first reading of the ordinance, which would go into effect should it pass a second vote June 8.
Only four members of the council were present during the May 25 meeting to vote on the ordinance. Council Member Bill Peterson was absent due to illness.
The ordinance, as crafted by Police Chief Clint Nagy, defines how and where these modes of transportation can be used in the city, while also providing guidelines for companies that seek to provide electric bicycle, GPS-equipped bicycle or motor-assisted scooter services in Bastrop. ....

Residents served well by dedicated city leaders, staff during winter storms


As we shivered through what I call the week-long “Texas Tundra,” our city’s departments rose to the occasion and passed the test with flying colors. We were well served by professional, dedicated leadership and staff.
Thank you, Curtis Ervin and everyone associated with Bastrop Power and Light.  That tree trimming the department does every year kept those ice-ladened branches off power lines around town.
Our other Curtis Curtis Hancock heads our Public Works Department.  We had no water issues until things beyond his control failed. However, we were back to running faucets soon after. A friend had a broken pipe early in the week. Public Works employees were at her house in minutes to turn off her water. Many members of his staff slept at the senior center. ....

NAGY - Elmer Arpod


Elmer Arpod Nagy entered his eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at St. Peter s Hospital in Melville, SK, with his family by his side, at the age of 87 years. Elmer was born on July 24, 1927 on the farm west of Otthon, the son of Joseph and Irma (nee Balog) Nagy. He attended Oak Hill School until he completed his Grade Eight. He worked on the family farm and was also employed at various jobs in lumber camps, construction sites and machine shops as a mechanic. Elmer married the love of his life, Eunice on July 3, 1950. They settled in the Oak Hill district and farmed for over 50 years and were blessed with seven children. Elmer enjoyed farming, loved the land and he worked hard to make his farm a success. He ran a mixed farming operation and had raised many animals, but had a particular love for horses. He would hitch them up and his family enjoyed many sleigh rides at Christmas time. Elmer loved his family, and was proud to say he had seven children and enjoyed telling people ....
