Pasay City Hall (File photo) MANILA - The Pasay city government urged its residents to be prepared and ensure safety in case of disasters and calamities. Marking this year's National Disaster Resilience Month, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano assured the city government is ready to respond to any disaster that may occur within communities. Rubiano said the Pasay local government unit (LGU) is prepared to impose force evacuation in times of disasters, contingency plans in the event of earthquake or fire, early warning flag system as well as pushing information and education drive for disaster resiliency. "Tayo po sa ating LGU ay nagsisikap upang maging laging handa sa sakuna (We, in the LGU, is doing our best to become prepared during disaster)," she said in a video statement posted online on Wednesday. Rubiano said like the characteristics of a Girl Scout and a loving mother, whose responsible and strong, she is trying her best to protect her constituents from the impacts of any disaster. "[I will do it] by being ready-ready with the necessary equipment and vehicles, ready with the appropriate, well researched, and efficient plans to respond to any disaster," she said. Rubiano also cited the need to acquire essential skills to mitigate the impact of any disaster that may occur like fire, earthquake, and typhoon. Also, Pasay city is doing good in its pandemic response, recording only four active cases of Covid-19 infection to date. Rubiano attributed the city's low number of Covid-19 active cases to the residents for following the EMI (ensure to always wash your hand; mask is a must, and implement physical distancing) habit being implemented within the Pasay localities. The city government is currently providing support to the four active Covid-19 patients and their families through the provision of nutritious food packs containing five kilos of rice, fruits, vegetables, milk, and ready-to-eat food. Executive Order No. 29 signed by former president Rodrigo Duterte on June 28, 2017, mandates the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month "throughout the country through the conduct of activities relative to the building of disaster resilience covering the four thematic areas."
