The race for Luzerne County judge has narrowed to three candidates â all of them women â for the November general election, and if two of them prevail the county bench will have an equal number of women and men in 2022 for the first time in history.
Former Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis won both a Republican and Democratic nomination in Tuesdayâs primary election, unofficial results show.
While that would have been a bigger deal when straight-party voting still existed, Salavantis is still the clear front-runner going into the fall, said Ed Mitchell, a local veteran political consultant.
âSheâs still at an advantage because she got such a good vote from both parties,â Mitchell said. âIâm not going to say sheâs a sure thing because nobody knows what will happen in politics.â
