Don't suppress the peoples' vote
The 2020 election was the most successful and secure in Michigan history. Michiganders voted in record numbers with 5.5 million ballots cast, 3.5 million via no-reason absentee. Now, our state senators are proposing solutions in search of a problem by introducing 39 bills to make it harder to exercise our fundamental right to vote. Why?
This flies in the face of the will of Michigan voters who passed Proposal 3 in 2018 to make voting easier and more secure with 67% of the vote. As a former civics and government teacher, I urge my fellow citizens and Sen. Tom Barrett to oppose SB 273-311 which are an affront to our democracy. What happened to "We the People?"
