News at noon. Good afternoon to you. Im claudine wong. Im andre senior. Thank you for joining us. Its a story so many people are talking about now. People are buying their tickets for what is expected to be the largest Mega Millions drawing in history. The jackpot is a whopping 1. 5 8,000,000,000 million. Ctvs allie rasmus spoke with people who are excited to play, even though they know the odds are against them. Theres the lucky number right there. When the Mega Millions jackpot hits ten figures like this, Richard Dickey says thats when he plays it. Generally, when it gets up to this big i think on this one here, i probably got about 200 invested. You spent 200 and maybe 1,000,000 seconds already. But i dont go crazy like this unless it gets to this amount. Yep. You heard right. Hes already spent 200 worth of Mega Millions tickets before buying several more. Just this morning. No ones won the Mega Millions jackpot and matched all six numbers since april 18th. The pot of money has swelled to a record breaking amount, more than 1. 5 billion so far. And growing. The jackpot grew by 30 million just in the first couple of hours of ticket sales this morning. You hear it, you hear the vibes, you go, i get here and get it early before the lines. Its afternoon. There is no strategy. I just get the quick pick. Think long, think wrong and no reason or rationale. Really. The odds of winning this jackpot 1 in 302,000,000. But that doesnt stop people from trying their luck. When its big like this, ill come in and get a ticket. You know, i dont usually play daily, but its big. Like this. You got to try. You never know. Somebody hits it, right . There are of course, other smaller prizes. If you match some of the winning numbers, you get five, you get 1 million match four, you get ten grand. Its not the same as 1. 5 billion, of course, but most of the people we talked to say theyre just into play for fun. The drawings at 8 00 tonight, ali rasmus ktvu fox two news. All right. Well the stanford athletic programs are now considering joining the Atlantic Coast conference, simply known as the acc as ktvu. James torres reports. Ucs board of regents met this morning to raise some questions. The agenda for the university of californias board of regents special meeting simply says uc berkeleys pac 12 membership. And we heard as of this morning the acc had a call with a number of university of president s saying they are still evaluating the idea from 12 to 4. The pac 12 conference is slowly fading after several universities evacuated to other conferences enticed by media rights deals. So its frustrating. You know, theres some anger in there, but right now were focused on is this season and theres still a lot to be determined for us. The conference moving forward, theres people working on that. But right now i coaches, were all in with our players. Cals head football coach says hes having a hard time finding the answers for recruits worried about the changes. But now reports indicate cal and stanford are each considering a move to the acc, home of athletic powerhouses clemson, florida state, North Carolina and duke when it comes to football. Espn College Football writer Kyle Bonagura says the competition shouldnt be a problem. Stanford and cal are in that tier with the acc. Theres a lot of like sized universities in that league. So from a football competitive standpoint , it would actually be a pretty nice landing spot. Coach Justin Wilcox says right now hes focused on getting his team ready for the Season Opener in september, though he admits whats happening to the pac 12 is sad. I grew up around the pac ten pac 12 conference and watching it and being fortunate to be a part of it coached in it for a long time. Its really sad , you know, from what i know, it probably didnt need to come to this, but, you know, things happened along the way and really unfortunate, really unfortunate. Ucs board of regents met this morning in a closed door session. Leaders held calls for the last two days, proposing the idea to schools in the conference. Bonagura says the fit may be great for football, but a tough sell for the other sports. And the idea that youre going to travel, tennis and baseball and softball and swimming and diving across the country for every away match or meet or whatever it might be, is just its hard to believe that either university is willing to do that, given the academic requirements for the student athletes at both campuses. There are no plans for any official votes. Anytime soon, and any changes wouldnt take effect until next year. Stanford leaders say they are also exploring options to ultimately make the best decisions for its student athletes. Im james torrez. Ktvu fox two news. Ctvs Jana Katsuyama talked to both supervisors about their plans. This building at 444 sixth street near the hall of justice in San Francisco, was identified as a future Wellness Center for drug users. A place to get users off the streets and closer to care and services. Its an attempt to solve the citys drug problems, but also a concern for people working at the Beauty Supply business next door. There was going to be six different sites and six different neighborhoods to relieve the pressure that narrowed down to three sites.
