Blue ivy, now eight years old and her 3yearold twins. The family is expected to be in the hamptons where they have been spotted over the past few weeks. So indeed, happy birthday to beyoncc. Gasia, certain songs bring up a certain mood, happy or as i said, when i play Single Ladies earlier, it feels like being at a wedding because it was very popular there. Right. I thought of that old, that snl, that just endeavor like sketcher he is something. But i have to say what i really admire about beyoncc is as she gets older, im old enough to be her mother, she thinks of others on her own birthday. She donated 1 million to black owned small businesses. Mike, look, as we get older it is not about us and cake and soda or beer. Is about what we can do to make sure we live a life well lived and it looks like she is doing that. She is a champion. Beyoncc is the best. And sal, you mentioned Single Ladies. Song of the year what decade ago, i think it was released 12 years ago. It won a grammy for song of the year and a couple other grammies. It was a hit song. That is a song where, you know, i will crank it up anytime. You know . 12 years ago . Crank it up today. Speaking about drinking up. Temperatures in the bay area are going to get pretty hot over the next few days. It will be a pretty smoky weekend out there this Holiday Weekend. And a flex alert, it has been issued. What is that mean . Basically that means we need to start conserving energy, electricity, because if we do not there is a chance we could up rolling blackouts up and down the state. Meanwhile, spare the air alerts continue for another two days here in the bay area. Melissa harrington is joining us live once again this morning. It will be a pretty easy weekend here. A pretty busy weekend. As you mentioned maybe now is a good time to start conserving energy, close your windows early today, this weekend it will start to get really hot. You want to keep the heat out, keep smoky air out of your house. This is actually the 18th consecutive spare the air day. Airquality Officials Say the wildfire smoke continues to impact the area. The air district is extending the spare the air alerts, until saturday. So, we are going into the Labor Day Weekend with, you know, smoke situation still very much present. The unhealthy air mixed with intense heat will make for a very uncomfortable weekend. Airquality officials urge people in areas impacted, including parts of the northbay, San Francisco, east bay, where the most unhealthy air to be, to stay inside with windows and doors closed. Meanwhile a flex alert was issued for the Labor Day Weekend as a wave of extremely hot weather is expected. Californias independent system operator issued the alert statewide. Residents are asked to reduce electricity use from 3 00 until 9 00 p. M. Until monday. You may remember that last month a heat wave led to rolling blackouts when energy exceeded the grids capacity. This time around they are getting word out early and says that everyone does their part we should not experience outages again. The entire west is competing for supply, going into this hot period. This is the sort of event that happens every 10 years or so. This is another sort of statewide heat event. Some tips include not running large appliances like washers and dryers during peak times, turn off your lights if you leave a room and instead of running your ac, try the fans. Melissa harrington, ktvu, fox 2 news. Thank you for that. I know last time that i was near the rolling blackouts and there was a run on ice, because refrigerators were not working. But Something Else you mentioned this morning, the diablo winds. You said it is a possibility monday or tuesday that we could get some of that warm air blowing the wrong way. That is a possibility, like. Because of a very strong, cool cold system dropping into the rockies. I talked about this earlier, denver will be 99 on sunday and 39, with snow, on tuesday. So, that system might pick up the wind. It depends on how far west it moves and digs in. But that certainly is a possibility for early next week. That would be a north wind. It might scour out a lot of the smoke but again make for high fire damages if it is north or northwest. We will see the fog blow off and it has made a good push here, was not bad yesterday, 73 san jose, concorde 74, all 80s today and near 90 for concorde. It is tomorrow where we start to head him up and move them out. Especially sunday. This is some of the forecast, backed up a wee bit on the blazing production but still hot enough. 104 santa rosa on sunday, 106 concord, 106 san jose. It looks like the temperatures want to trail off a bit on monday. We will see. It could be wind driven. We will keep our eyes on that and that will be early next week. Excessive heat warning starts tomorrow at 11 00 a. M. And goes until 9 00 p. M. On monday. There is also a heat advisory out for areas close to the bay and coast. San mateo, santa clara, santa cruz, same timeframe, 11 a. M. Tomorrow until 9 00 p. M. The fog is there but not the widespread coverage we have had all week long. It will not last too much longer here. It will burn off and then what will be left behind is sunshine and warm temperatures. The fog might be really thick tomorrow morning along the coast, something to keep in mind there. Warmer for most, you guys, morning fog and then sunny. There will be more in about 10 minutes to look at those forecast as we go into the weekend, you guys. Thank you. But infectious experts say this is exactly the type of thing that can lead to coronavirus to spread. This morning we are joined by Infectious Disease expert, dr. Michael bomar, to discuss how we can prevent the spread. Doctor, i ready hit it i read a tip at a time, before you leave the house you should check your friends or family, wherever you are going with, her symptoms. Correct . That is correct. Thanks for having me this morning, to come on for extra precaution as we head into Labor Day Weekend. Urself her s you know we have some bad air quality out in the bay area, what people might think is just allergies or a call from smoke. That could be early signs of upper respiratory infection. That is the first part of checking yourself before meeting with family and friends this week and. The second part is to keep groups as small as possible. The larger the group, the higher the risk. The other thing, if you are going to be around people, try to remember to keep at least a six foot difference between you and family members or friends. It is tempting to get close, to hug, to touch, but that is how the virus can be transmitted. Another thing you want to be careful with is handwashing. Make sure that you use at least 60 alcohol to wash your hands. And the other important part, if you are around other people, where a mask. Doctor, if we are outside and the gathering is at a part, people are far away, do people still need to wear a mask . Even outside . Yeah, it is a good idea. Again, it is about trying not to share the air with people around you. It is about if you are going in between that sixfoot distance, about wearing a mask, it is an important part. Is about the package together, maintaining the distance, wearing a mask amma checking your symptoms and washing your hands. It keeps you safe and your family safe. Doctor, what do you think is the biggest thing that people let their guard down on . For example, they may be doing these things but there is one thing that people seem to forget. Is it handwashing . Getting too close to people . What do you think is the number one thing people kind of, you know, become lax on as we have been in the potomac for almost six months now. Familiarity is number one. I think when people around strangers, going to the store, i think that is when their guard is up. I think however if you meet up with family and a backyard and you are going to a party, if there is any alcohol involved, that is wh down. That is when people forget about the touch, they forget about the mask, they forget about distance. So, it really is about thinking about these things before hand. Checking your symptoms as well. Make sure you dont have any signs or symptoms of an early cold or flu. Before you go. I think it is important people remember too that this is labor day. It is about workers and remember that you are not only protecting yourself but protecting us, front line healthcare workers like here at kaiser permanente, we appreciate everyone taking precautions. Doctor, one last question, you know you mentioned allergies, when we started out the interview. Even though someone may not be, you know, infected, so to speak, if they are sneezing a lot, that is probably a good idea to stay away from people anyway. To be saved. Correct . Yeah, the best thing is to check with your doctor. If you notice symptoms, if there is any question, check with your physician, healthcare provider. They can provide the appropriate expertise, direct you towards testing of appropriate and and give advice too about whether or not outside gatherings are appropriate. All right, thank you doctor. Definitely going to take your advice and keep safe this Holiday Weekend. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. Enjoy the weekend and stay safe. I think more people will be staying right here in the bay area. What will the weather be like . I think you know, sal, you gave me a softball question. It will be hot. Not too bad today. Tahoe, low 90s, that is hot up there. Reno near 100, but for us, we have fog, it is showing signs of burning off a little already. I am not surprised, upper 70s and 80s around 15002000 he. But the fog, if it reforms, it will disappear but if it reforms it could be thick along the coast tomorrow. Keep that in mind. Airquality is improved, i know that it is a spare the air day but there is some unhealthy groups, but we are almost in the good category. It was better than it was a week ago. Anyway you look at it, the excessive heat warning starts tomorrow and goes through monday night. The fire danger has been beneficial lately but it will go up because the humidity will go down in temperatures are on the way up. 50s, 60s, 70s, 71 in lakeport. They have no problem warming up there. 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, today we will warm up. For some it will be noticeable and others it may take until tomorrow. It is all about the weekend, especially the sunday. There could be some 110th in there, after everything is said and done. It does look like it is trending cooler and still breezy. Watch out for the north wind into tuesday you guys. Mike . Thank you. With the warmup happening, statewide flex alert has been issued by the operators of the power grid. We are all being asked to conserve electricity starting tomorrow, through monday night, to prevent rolling lockouts. Some parts of the bay area will have more than 100 degree temperature, possibly 110, as steve said. That means we have an increase in demand for power so you are advised to precool your home in the warning and then set the thermostat at 78 degrees, in the afternoon. The entire west for supply, period. Opener newsome also signed an emergency proclamation to release extra Energy Capacity during the extreme heat. You will want to put bottles of water in the fridge to keep cool and do not turn on your oven or make sure that you charger vehicles and electronic in the morning. Cooling centers are a good way to stay cool. You have some options around the bay area. In santa clara, in morgan hill, the center is open saturday through monday. Three centers will be open in san mateo, one in city hall, the Senior Center and the King Community center are also open. Public libraries are open in solano county, operating during normal business hours. Ktvus allie rasmus has details from one mother on how to possibly avoid a tragedy. But you got to wear a life jacket. If you are on or around the water. If you are on a boat, on the shore, especially children. Get them in a life jacket. Reporter the safety advice also applies to trips to the beach. Rip currents are always a reality in one east bay mother that spoke with ktvu said her 19yearold daughter drown at a beach in santa cruz in july. Her daughter was sitting on a rock with some friends and a large wave swept her out into the ocean. Sometimes, it is like i am living in someone elses world. You know, you cannot believe that this is happened. It is light, it is sheer devastation. She was our only child and she was the absolute love of our life. She was our absolute everything. Reporter even though many bay area beaches are closed for the Labor Day Weekend, because of covid19, if youre headed out to the shoreline, the advice is to never turn your back to the water. And, if your boating in the lake or river, a life jacket is always required, espe children. Reporting live, 1055, ktvu, fox 2 we wanted to remind you that Lake Berryessa in napa county is closed for the long weekend. This includes all day use areas, boat launching and concessions that are operated there. The reason for the closure is so hundreds of workers can safely remove trees and clear roads, to install utility poles and lines over the weekend. Most eat bay Regional Park will be open this weekend but thinks that would not be allowed are picnicking, barbecuing and swimming because of Current Health restrictions. Crowds are expected so you are advised to social distance, wear a mask and turnaround of the park that you are hoping go to is too crowded. Parks are beautiful, not only neighborhood parks, but big city parks. An amazing basis for all. Really a spot where a lot of people have been using to get their mind off of the pandemic. And with the economic fallout that we are expressing, many bay area parks right now are at risk, because of lost revenue. To raise awareness about this, as well as a new social distancing campaign, that is taking place throughout San Francisco, we want to bring in San Francisco park alliance, drew becker. Good morning to you. Good morning. How are you . Pretty good. Tell me about the new campaign. I want to get it right. Heart your park. It kicked off yesterday and is through the entire month of september. What are you guys doing . I know you have been to dolores park and alamo square. What you guys doing here . Yeah, really what it is about is that it is a grabbed two campaign. I think that the last six months have been trying for everyone. Parks have been, no matter, like you just said, in the east bay or northbay or southbay, right here in San Francisco, parks, no matter the size have been like this savior. We have gone out and we have used them and i think a lot of people found a newfound love for them. And we wanted to show, everyone to show our gratitude for how important these open spaces are to us. And, we came up with this idea of a heart your Parks Campaign. We just want to really say thank you to the amazing spaces. That we have. That we are blessed with here in the bay area. And, to let people know that they are here for you. They have been here for us through earthquakes, through other pandemics, and now this pandemic. And they will continue to be. So we came up with this idea. And it is, it was taking those social distancing bubbles and turning them into hearts. And then, you know, just taking off. Yeah. No, it is great. I am with you. Even in my own neighborhood park, there is a Community Pool attached and we would always just go down and use the pool. We really would not use the park as much. But now all of a sudden over the past few months it has become our gym, the place we go to picnic, we go down to the creek, we are there all the time. When i say we, my family and my kids right now. You know, what is important to remind everybody about this, i think, is, it takes money, funds to keep them maintained. I know you do a lot with that. But i wanted to ask you about the pandemic, have you taken a financial hit . I know the campaign is also, you know, also a bit of a fundraiser for nonprofits in parks in San Francisco. Yeah, we are, i think every nonprofit has been through this pandemic in seen margins shrink , even lower. But, we have been holding in there. Our people that use the parks are really supporting, you know, other nonprofits and partners. We have a Partner Network of about 130 something partner groups. And you know, i think everyone is opening their wallet, or actually volunteering as much as they can, to make sure each of the spaces are, you know maintained. We are worried about the future, and some of the government stresses on budgets as well. And speaking of that, we have a proposition in november coming up, here in San Francisco. You know, that is called prop a. It will invest hundreds of millions of dollars in infrastructure, in our parks, it is important that the public know about that. And say yes to that prop a. That will be on the ballot in november. So, it is just raising awareness. Is also giving thanks, we always hear about First Responders and front line workers, but our parks and rec staff is also frontline workers. Give them a big heart. Like this. When you see them out there, in the parks, over this Holiday Weekend. It is going to be hot and you will need to be out in the parks and just say, just say thank you, hug a tree, thank a bench that has been your saving grace for the past six months. That is what it is about. How many parks are you going to actually do the hearts . The social distancing, you know the heart bubbles . Yeah, we will do them in dolores, alamo square, indian basin, golden gate park, and then we have got about 30 something Community Partners from community gardens, to the stairways that are all throughout San Francisco, that will be doing some sort of heart installations. So you can find those. And then the local artist, finch, he has got, you know everybody really loves those honey bears and he will do a special edition park care for us that will be in peoples windows, so you can go on a Scavenger Hunt around your neighborhood to look for those. So you know, it, i think it will be a Great Campaign for the month of september. Is a big thank you to the spaces that have been so dear to us the past six months. I think it is amazing too. Heart your park is the name of the new campaign for the month of september, through sf parks alliance. Drew becker is the ceo, drew, we appreciate your time. I thicket is a great idea. Have a safe Holiday Weekend coming up. You as well. Everyone stay cool, get out your park and say thanks. Exactly. Thank you again, drew. Coming up next, labor day will look a lot different. Compared to years past. Next, a chef and author who focuses on food science says that we can stay safe while socializing with family and friends this Holiday Weekend. Great day on the lake it is. Lunch is cookin and i saved a bunch of money on my boat insurance with geico. Fellas, can it get any better than this . Whoa my old hairstyle grew back. So did mine. [80s music] what . Every step is guided by public health, at the state and local level. So far, 15 schools in marin county have been cleared to reopen. Right now marin county is a tier 14 covid19 risk and nearing tier two. If that happens and all schools can reopen on september 22nd for in person classes. This Labor Day Weekend health and government officials are warning against large gathering thing that they could spread covid19 and further prolong the pandemic. But because some people will gather, with Close Friends or family, i had a minute to talk with the bay area chef and author who has based his life work on food science, about safer ways to have a social event with food press it. Here is what j. Kenji lopezalt had to say and what we should all keep in mind. Definitely having more people over at your house or meeting with more people is less safe than not doing that. Given that some people are going to be doing that, there are steps that you can do to make it safer. So, the first would be that if you are having a communal table of food, which is fine, people can potluck and put it on one table. But you should still keep your family unit separated, distance wise from others. Take turns going up to the table. And filling your plate then go back to your designated spot, so multiple people do not crowd the table at the same time. That is a safer way to do it. Keeping things outdoors instead of indoors, that is a good way to do it. If you are going to have, obviously you will need access to the bathroom but leaving the screen door open so people dont have to slide in and out and touch the handle repeatedly, leaving sanitizer and wipes by the bathroom, so people can wipe off the handles. So i would say if you are having a party, which some people will say that you just should not but if you are going to, then the very least you should make sure you are not, that you are still keeping distance and maintaining your pod of people that, your family unit that you are constantly in contact with. Reporter what about ideas as simple as i made a big bowl of tater salad, there is one serving spoon. If my Little Family wants potato salad and then your family comes up, do we switch serving utensils . Again, if you wanted to be more safe, then better to save the utensils and switch. With the serving utensils it is higher because someone could potentially have sneezed or coughed or breathed heavily on their hand before touching the spoon. Now there might be someone with a viral load that you get on your hand and then you touch your face. So if you wanted to be very safe about it and switch utensils. Otherwise, what you can do is have sanitizing wipes and wipe down the handle and wipe your hands after each person is done using it. That it will be clean for the next person. And after you have handled stuff that other people handled and you are eating, dont touch your face until after youre done eating and got rid of your plate and had a chance to wash her hands. The other thing is i have a 3 1 2yearold. And when we started, and we wanted to social distance and the pandemic started, you know we were really afraid that it would be impossible or difficult to get her to understand why we have from peo and to constantly have to be watching her and reminding her. In fact now, once we started explaining it to her kids pick things up fast. Especially on get. They dont really have a sense of what normalcy is, the way adults do. So for her putting on her mask is Second Nature and she just doesnt. Sometimes i forget and she says, papa youre not wearing a mask. Or we will be outside walking down the street and she will see people coming towards us and she will naturally walk around to the side and make enough space for them. Kids, as long as you teach them right and why they have to do things and they pick it up fast. They do. And j. Kenji lopezalt also said that singleserve food and drinks like cupcakes better than a big cake, cans of soda better than a two liter, of course water is the best. Mike and sal, we have all been working at home for five months now. I remember seeing a plate of cookies back in march that nobody had touched. And you know newsrooms and food. Right . We love each other. To see a plate of cookies full in the newsroom kitchen, that was the first sign that like wow, something is up here. Yeah. You know, i love cookies just as much as the next guy. But, you know, i will have to pass on any of that shared food, for a while. You know i really hope, mike, that one day we get back to, you know, being able to go to the super bowl parties and you know eat food from the spread and not worry about it. Maybe that day will come. You think super bowl, that just reminded me of the party i was at. Right . Back in february. This 49ers were up in the fourth, oh sal, why did you bring it up . Bad memories right there. Lets not talk about it. Great tips. I dont know that we will ever be back. I should never say never but it will be a long time where we share items like cake end soda. Hopefully soon no.
