Bart operators have been training for weeks on the new line, Officials Say this will impact people in the south bay who have grueling commutes. The ride is expected to takes over an hour into San Francisco. Its going to make it easier for me to get on a bart train and go to San Francisco or oakland or the airport. This is just wonderful. Bart to Silicon Valley reflects the hope and the optism of this region. Reporter the Transit Agency worked to open these stations. The 210mile extension is phase one of a 2. 3 billion project. The opening of the stations comes at a tough time during the covid19 pandemic. Ridership is down 90 pre covid19. The opening of the station brings bart to 50 stitions total and yes, there are parking garages at both of these stations. Thank you, new this morning, the Oakland Fire Department responded to several fires along telegraph avenue during a protest, calls came in about a group of people burglarizing businesses including a car dlip. You can see large Fire Department presence. In the video you can see that the Oakland Fire Department put out several smalls fires. This morning, fires in Sacramento County are watching out for hot spots from the grant fire. It broke out yesterday afternoon in a rural area 25 miles south east of downtown sacramento. The fire was secretary percent contained at last check. No r word on how the fire got started. The United States air force Staff Sergeant accused of killing a Santa Cruz Deputy is due back in Court Next Month. Steven carillo did not enter a plea yesterday. Prosecutors charged him with murder and lying in wait and possession of explosives. Attempted murder, four counts on officers including two officers with an explosive device. We are still, as i have said, in the process of investigating this individual, his background and connections, if any, to groups. Damon gutzwiller was killed in what authorities describe as an ambush style attack. People in the Central Coast came out after a tense man hunt in the city. The city was on edge after an ambush wednesday that badly wounded a sheriffs deputy and killed a homeless man. Thursday, the suspect was shot to death after two gun battles that left three more officers wounded. They do that same job every day but they are not acknowledged for it. They stood their ground and protected us and i have never felt safer. This is why we police, this is what we do. The deputy shot wednesday underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The others are also recovering. The latest demonstration against racism and Police Brutality hit close to home for the mayor of san jose. 300 demonstrators staged a sit in outside of the mayor, sam liccardos home in the citys north side neighborhood. That followed a march through the streets of san jose, demonstrators express outraging at deaths by Police Officers across the across the country. They have failed to acknowledge our children. No justice no peace. The protestors are demanding that the mayor defund the San Jose Police department and invest that money in initiatives for communities of color. The mayor was not at home during the sit in. He was attending a City Council Meeting about the citys response to the protests. A group of young people gathered for a rally and march at San Franciscos city hall. The goal was to denounce Police Brutality. San francisco braches of the naacp organized the demonstrations. California is now in phase three of the coronavirus reopening plan. That means that schools, day camps, bars and gyms are able to resume business with certain modifications including getting county approval first. The reopening came as the state is seeing an increase this coronavirus cases. Tattoo shops and nail salons and massage parlors were given approval for this friday. Restaurants in San Francisco are welcoming back customers, dining is now allowed in the city as long as its done outside. Officials acknowledge that Outdoor Dining is a small step. San Francisco Mayor london breed took advantage of the reopening. She visited cafe envy yesterday for lunch. The target date for inside dining is july 13th. Coronavirus cases are up in nearly half the country. The Associated Press shows that the seven day average of new cases increased in 21 states including california. Health experts fear that as states loosen up restrictions there could be more and bigger spikes. Officials are worried that some parts of the nation could see a jump in weeks to come. We know that the pandemic is not over. Looking at the serology data shows that the vast majority of americans have not been exposed to the virus. Scientists calculated that requiring people to wear face mask between mid april to mid may reduced the numbers of infections by 70,000 in new york city. Infection rates in new york fell by 3 per day. Three cities say they should not have to wait, why they are saying this they should be able to reopen now. That is coming up. Alameda county is going to take a big step towards reopening this week. Next friday counties are going to allow all retail to open. Restaurants can offer Outdoor Dining. Gyms can have fitness classes outside and religious services can resume, outdoor museums can also reopen. But the leaders of three cities in Alameda County feel that the Health Department is dragging its feet on reopening. The mayors of livermore dublin and pleasanton to move faster. Reporter alameda has the highest numbers of confirmed cases in the bay area. But less than 4 of those live in the tri valley cities of dublin, pleasanton and livermore. We should look at this region as a subregion. Reporter the mayors cosigned a letter to the alameda Health Department, they are asking that the Health Department loosen some of the restrictions in the area declaring the area a subregion. County supervisors also sent a similar letter. Those cities are allowed to open up for Outdoor Dining, they are in the same subregion as us and we think we should be able to open up to the same levels. Reporter Alameda County Public Health announced that they were easing restrictions for Outdoor Dining but not until june 19th. Alameda has been among the slowest counties to ease restrictions. The Small Businesses in our community are towed the line. They have done what they needed to do. With the neighboring counties being open, i think that adds more stress to our Small Businesses here in downtown livermore and in our wineries. I appreciate the challenges that exist there when you are considering what is a Public Health risk but you also have to consider the Socio Economic risk. The new directive allows for visits outdoor museums and for Outdoor Fitness classes. A gym outside sacramento has reopened and people flocked back for a work out inside just hours after. Lifetime atlet iks said that staff has been working to sanitize equipment. Everyone is respecting the new way and they are grateful for the social distancing and the space allotted. Absolutely, people who have to go through that commute in the south bay wanted another option and now they finally have it. The first train leaves the station not too far from now. I wanted to show you live pictures from the berryessa station. The first train leaves at 7 56 a. M. Its being called the berryessa line, bart operators have been training for the line for weeks. This will help the people in the south bay who have the grueling commutes. A bart ride is expected to take over an hour into San Francisco. Its going to be make it easier to get on a bart train and go to San Francisco or oakland or go to the airport. So this is just wonderful. The next phase goes 6 miles through downtown san jose into santa clara. It comes at a tough time during the covid19 pandemic. Ridership is down 90 , pre covid19 ridership was 400,000 trips. Starting today muni is going to bring back some of their routes that were temporarily discontinued during the coronavirus pandemic. The Transit Agency said the routes will be fully restored to their Previous Service levels. Muni riders can also expect to see service on the 37th line. They are expected to borrow against revenue raised from a new charge to rate payers. They are setting up a trust. But the San Francisco City Attorney called it a complex financial scheme. Saying that there is no guarantee that they can pay back the money, meaning the risks and costs will fall on the customers. San francisco has a suit filed by uc hastings. They said there was a clear public hazard and safety problem. The sment requires the city to remove homeless tents by the middle of the month. According to a state audit, due to inadequate policies and oversight uc berkeley has not returned human remains and artifacts to native tribes. The other two units in the suit have returned 96 of their possessions while berkeley has returned only 19 . The president of the University Said the uc system will issue a policy on returning native american art artifacts and remains by august. While the horse racing industry is making changes on how jockies are allowed to handle their horses. The rules come out as soon as october. Jockies will only be allowed to whrip in an underhand motion and no more than six times during a race, if jockies are found in violation they could face suspension and a 1,000 fine. A judge in california suspended the governors executive order requiring that absentee ballots be sent to all voters. Republican Assembly Members said that the governor exceeded his emergency powers. A judge temporarily blocked the order until later this month but state lawmakers are already working on a bill to make vote by mail a law. A majority of people in california already vote by mail. This week, counties across california reported the highest total of coronavirus cases in the state since the pandemic began. There were 3500 case in california. Unemployment claims continue to rise in california. The jobless claims come despite more people returning to work. But employment experts point out that the pandemic created big roadblocks on the states road to economic recovery. What we have especially in the bay area is county Health Officials and local elected officials who have pushed back. So our economy, especially in the bay area but other parts of the state, remains largely closed. 5. 1 Million People have filed for unemployment in california during the past 12 weeks, that is 1 quarter of the states work force. Oregon has hit a pause on their reopening plans. The governor, kate brown is shutting down the states reopening efforts for seven days, brown announced that the state reported 178 new covid19 cases. While that may not sound like a lot it marks the highest daily count in oregon since the pandemic. The noticeable increase in covid19 infections is certainly cause for concern. In order to slow the transmission of the virus i am putting all pending county reopening applications on hold for seven days. Oregon has more than 5300 covid19 cases and more than 170 deaths. Talking politics at the bar can be a long standing tradition for some but did you know that the next time you order a beer you can also talk a stand. We learned how in a conversation today with the owner of the only black owned brewery in Northern California. Reporter he sold a highly successful Beverage Distribution Company that he built for 30 years, instead of retiring, he purchased a brewery, speak easy, near hunters point. It was an institution in San Francisco. It was undergoing hard times and i wanted to save it. Thats why i bought it. Traditionally African Americans have not tapped the beer brewer marketplace. Reporter craft brewing and brew publics opened up the gates. I am not complaining, we have to make do with what we have. A quarter of the 60 or so black owned breweries across the nation are working with a san Antonio Brewer to make a positive impact in their markets. We lent out the recipe. Everybody who tries to make the product and sell it has to give back to the community and the black lives matter efforts. Reporter he is also on the board of the Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce Resiliency Fund to assist meap black owned businesses that did not get pandemic relief funds. Families were required to stay in their cars and the graduates were allowed to leave their cars but told to stay apart. Now this morning , the Fire Department in oakland responded to several fires along telegraph avenue following protests in the city. Calls came in about a group of people burglar euzing businesses in the city. You can see the large Fire Department presence throughout the city. The Oakland Fire Department said they put out several small fires as prosteftors moved through oakland. This morning firefighters in Sacramento County are watching out for some hot spots from a huge fire that burned more than 5,000acres. It broke out in a rural area 25 miles south east of downtown sacramento. Last check, the fire was 60 contained. Evacuation orders have been lifted. There is no word on how the fire got started. The United States air force sergeant accused of killing a Santa Clara County deputy will be back in Court Next Month for his arraignment. Prosecutors charged Steven Carillo with 19 counts including murder and lying in wait and possession of explosives. He tried to kill other officers in the Santa Cruz Mountains a week ago. Attempted murder, four counts, on officers including two officers with an explosive device. We are still in the process of investigating this individual, his background and connections, if any, to groups. Damon gutzwiller was killed in what authorities are describing as ang ambush style attack. Investigators have not publicly revealed any possible motive. People in the Central Coast came out to thank Law Enforcement after a tense man hunt in their city. The downtown was lined with blue ribbons and signs. Thursday the suspect was shot to death after two gun battles that left three more officers wounded. They do that same job every day only they are not okay knowledged for it. They stood their ground and protected us. I never felt safer. This is why we police, this is what we do. The deputy shot wednesday underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The three other officers wounded are also recovering. The latest demonstration against racism and plus brutality hit close to home for the mayor of san jose. Over 300 demonstrators staged a sit in outside of mayor sam liccardos home in the citys north side neighborhood last evening. It followed a march through streets in downtown san jose, they expressed their outrage over the deaths at the hands of Police Officers across the nation. They are failing to acknowledge the children. They are not giving our families support. The protestors are demanding the mayor defund the San Jose Police department and invest the money to assist communities of color. The mayor was not home during the city in. He was at city hall attending a meeting in response to the recent protests. A group of mostly young people gathered for a rally and march at city hall yesterday. The goal was to denounce Police Brutality and racism in the death of george floyd. California is now in phase three of the states reopening plan and that means that schools, day camps, bars and gyms are able to resume businesses with certain mod fibbings. That is according to the state. Remember that counties need to give their approval first of the the reopening comes as the state is seeing an increase this coronavirus cases. Some tattoo shops and nail salons and massage parlors have been given the green light to resume business friday. But they need county approval first. The leaders of three cities in almada county think that the Health Department is dragging their feet on reopening. The mayors of livermore, dublin and pleasanton want to move faster. Reporter Alameda County has the highest numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases in the bay area but less than 4 of those live in the tri valley cities of dublin, pleasanton and livermore. We should look at the data from the tri valley region as a subregion. That is a scientific way to look at the data. Reporter the mayors cosigned a letter to the Alameda County Health Department asking that the Health Department loosen some of the restrictions in the tri valley by declaring the area a subregion. The letter said that alameda should not be more restrictive than near pi san ramon. The county supervisor sent a similar letter. Those cities are allowed to open up for Outdoor Dining and other activities. They are in the same subregion as us and we think we should open up to the levels that they are. Residents of alameda gathered to support a black man who was questioned by the police for dancing in a bike lane. Dozens of people showed up yesterday marching to the Alameda Police station, demanding common sense when it comes to emergency calls. The protest comes after a woman called the police because a black man was dancing in a bike lane on central avenue. Officers body camera footage shows that the man told oifs he was exercising. The man who said he was exercising was detained and hand cuffed. Officers initially told him he was not free to go then cited him for resisting arrest and released him. The city of San Francisco is filing legal proceedings, they are proposing they would raise 75 billion, they will set up a trust that will Pay Back Customers for the surcharges but the District Attorney calls the plan a complex financial scheme. This morning a building at 40th and telegraph boarded up after fire broke out, Oakland Fire Department said they responded to several fire calls following a group of protesters that went through the area. Officials say a group of protesters, burglarize businesses including a car dealership and set small fires on the street of telegraph. In the south bay the latest demonstration against racism and Police Brutality hit close to home for the mayor of san jose. An estimated 300 demonstrators staged a sit in outside mayor sam liccardos home in the citys north side neighborhood last night. It followed a march through the streets of downtown. They came to express outrage over death tied to Police Officers all across the country. Leaders have failed to acknowledge the children left fatherless. Theyre not giving families support. The protesters are demanding the mayor defund the San Jose Police department and invest that money saved in initiatives to assist communities of color.
