Near 60 degrees by tomorrow at levis stadium. Weve got a minor warmup coming our way with dry weather in the forecast for the next few days and a lot of cloud cover out there this morning. We will continue to be in and out of the clouds went through the next few days before the next chance of rain arrives. How about a look at the Golden Gate Bridge where we have a little bit of a breeze. Low 40s in oakland and mitt 30s in livermore where we have some fog in area san jose about 40 degrees. Temperatures rep by nine in half moon bay, a tad warmer in san jose and 5 degrees in concord. Visibility has improved over santa rosa where we have 3 miles visibility. But the east bay, livermore reporting 0. 25 visibility and the dark shade of gray spread throughout along some of the highways and especially as you get closer to the Sacramento Valley. This is what we call flowing fog in the flow is helping to push it our way from the sacramento and Central Valley. The east bay seen a little bit more fog than we have in recent days. Afternoon highs, we remain with a mix of mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies, 54 in San Francisco, upper 50s for the north bay and upper 50s for the south bay. I will have a look at the extended forecast which includes the next chance for rain and we take a look into the sierra for the week coming up. The cdc is taking another look at the vaping guidelines. We will tell you why the agency is backing away from a broader recommendation. If you plan on heading up to this year for the Holiday Weekend hang tight. We will talk to kevin cooper about the scope conditions after the fresh powder was dumped on the resort. Blow a kiss into the sun we need someone to lean on blow a kiss into the sun all we needed somebody to lean on welcome back. It is a big threeday weekend for many people and some of you may be headed up to the sierra but take it slow if youre headed up highway 80. Currently no restrictions but the roads are mighty icy. And very snowy and wet. Went to get up there is plenty of snow for all the skiers and snowboarders join ms now we have kevin cooper. Morning. Usually when were talking about the Holiday Weekend or three day weekend, it is all good stuff about traveling and getting there and the snow conditions but weve got Alpine Meadows heavy on our minds and the death of 34yearold Cole Comstock and the injuries that happened to another skier. We were talking on the break about all the mitigation that goes into this and its not new when you have the dumping that we had on thursday and its dangerous conditions but there is Something Different that is on the minds of those going up this weekend. Reporter the snow level is not quite as high definitely a challenging day. And with all the volunteers that joined in on the search. And unfortunately we did get fortunately we got a lot of snow about 22 to 25 inches. A live shot you are just showing, that is the area that actually split. The patrol did all they could that morning and they do that every day whenever we get more than 6 inches of snow and thats what triggers avalanche or snow safety. Unfortunately mother took control Mother Nature to control and there was a slide and we do not know the causes and is still under investigation. What happens is when you start getting the layers of snow and especially the abundance of snow we just got, you can see the fracture line and that can happen. Theyve got to do the investigation and dig down and find out what the causes and how it was triggered. You could see from that shot you see ski traps going in and that is the inherent risk of skiing and riding. The good news for everybody and the question on everyones mind is it is very rare. I believe this statistic is 10 inbound fatalities between the last 20 years. Thats a pretty good run for skiing patrols doing snow safety. Our number 1 priority or their number 1 priority is the Health Safety and welfare. They do everything they can to mitigate. If you do look at the sierra Avalanche Center, yesterday was moderate moderate and then the day before was high. We have some challenging conditions right now but the snow is unbelievable right now from the lake level to the upper mountain. I will also guarantee that the Operations Team and all the other resorts took a second look at everything theyre going to open and they are doing everything in their power to make sure its safe for the guests that are coming up. I was going to say that its awful it happened at the timing for the storm and the fact that you guys will have somewhat blue skies for the big Holiday Weekend must be a welcome news because its been a little sparse. I think the last time we talked there is about 2 feet at lake level and that was the beauty of the last storm. It snowed from lake level out to the summit so anything you want to do around the sierra today will be fantastic from snowshoeing to crosscountry. Just getting out and enjoying it. It was 14 degrees this morning with maybe a high in the 30s or low 40s but it will be bluebird skies with light winds and a per perfect Martin Luther king jr. Weekend. If youre driving the roads are slick. One in the backcountry, take a shovel, make an ingress and egress plan. Moderate above, moderate blow and moderate at the low level. Trouble with a friend and have a plan. In terms of where we were dealing with the snow in the back area, there was a little bit of concern and this last storm has not cancel that out and we do need more continuous snow less than one big package and over several days looking ahead to the snow that is still coming to the region. Next week we start the storm doors open but the good news is the storms are sliding out of the north so they are cold. This is really good. I thought great day, anybody skiing today will have a great time. It is soft and easy to ski on. Always ride with care and ride with a friend. If youre going to be going, wait for your friend at the bottom of the lift to make sure everybody is okay. If her snowboarding be aware of tree wells all of that as part of the skier mentality that we have to have to ski with care. The chair is open in about 39 minutes so we will let you go. You have a great morning. That is a hard thing, our condolences to the family of Cole Comstock. And for the safety of everybody headed up to enjoy the long holiday. The rights right now look pretty good i just looked on caltrans but take your chains. The fires in australia have been catastrophic but for the wildlife including endangered and threatened species. Plus how people right here in the bay area are trying to help those animals and australia. Happy weekend to you. Mostly cloudy start to the morning and we are going to be dry moving through the weekend and temperatures will warm up slightly. Heres a look at a little bit of blue sky out there in and out of the clouds. Thats what we will see in some areas and in addition weve got fog. The inner east bay reporting low visibility in concord and livermore and you may find some of the highways. Speaking of the rainfall, not expecting to see much of any as we get into day timeframe. Heres a look at what we see so far for the season. 55 average in oakland. We needed to keep coming but not going to happen for now. In the Pacific Northwest and Northern California seen some of this but for us its about the cloud cover. That stretches all the way into Southern California. Saturday, sunday and monday, not much changed. Temperatures warm slightly with each passing day not a huge warm up. Monday looks like it will be the warmest day. If you do have the holiday, lucky you. By tuesday, we may have some rain in time for the morning commute. If you are going to the sierra, and the tahoe area the Avalanche Center has released this for the next 24 hours of moderate to considerable avalanche danger and that means theres still some uncertainty as to the stability of the snowpack and that something to be aware of. If youre traveling, no advisories and it will be dry for the weekend in tahoe. Temperatures in our neighborhoods, very chilly 39 in brentwood. Low 40s in oakland, 46 in downtown San Francisco and an afternoon temperatures creep up slightly. 55 in santa rosa, 55 in antioch and 54 in San Francisco. Sliding south, san jose at 58 and 57. Temperatures it out warmer today. Slightly warmer on sunday. If youre going to levis stadium upper 60s on the forecast. Temperature is nearing 60 degrees on monday perhaps one of the warmest days we have seen in a while and the chance for rain moving in tuesday into wednesday. More news coming up in just a little bit.
