The rocky fire has grown from 3,000 to 5000 acres overnight. Brian flores here in studio following the latest developments. Weve seen really scary rids and pictures from videos and pictures from there. The resident there says this is scary and spreading really quickly from 3,000 to 5,000 overnight. Right knowhow we have on the phone is paul lowenthal. Good morning to you. I guess the question is what is the very latest right now . Actually, the most current updated acreage is 8,000 acres, overnight we do have two confirmed structures that have been destroyed. Were going to continue to evaluate any other damage thats occurred over the night and since yesterday. We do have a second evacuate shelter that weve opened in middle town now at Middle Town High School, so that will put the evacuations on the Southern Side of the fire. When you say two structures, i know during the we saw on the incident page it said several outlying buildings. Can confirm these are homes or what do we know about these structures . We did originally have several reports of outbuilding that were damaged and now we have two Residential Structures that have been damaged. Do you know where those structures are, the roads or where theyre located at . No, we dont have that information yet but we will have Damage Assessment teams that will help with that information and relay that back to us. Paul, what do we know in terms of the weather conditions out there this morning . I know steve our weather person has talked about triple digit temperatures out there. What do we know about the wind direction, wind speed, what if anything that you can provide for us in terms of how firefighters are battling this fire and some of the challenges they face as well . Yeah, we did have last night some coastal influence. The fog came out because obviously and changed the wind direction. Originally we had evacuations to the northeast side of the fire and then had the change where it jumped Morgan Valley road. And then we started having evacuations at the southern edge of the fire. Right now we have 0 containment but a lot of resources here and a lot more coming and our hope is to get those containment numbers up in preparation of the high temperatures were expecting another day of today. In terms of i understand that aircraft is going to be launched here, i guess daylights now. Have they be up in the air . Have they seen the fire . Where is it spreading at this point in terms of where its going . Right now with the what we call the version where the smoke has kind of settled down into the valley as the daylight breaks and temperatures start to rise the smoke will lift and allow us to get our aircraft in. Even though we dont necessarily have the aircraft in the air, we still have a lot of resources on the ground and a lot more coming in. Theres constantly a firefight and structured events taking place. Are there any homes in danger paul . I know we talked about how some of there are several roads closed right now. At this particular time are there any homes at least for the residents that may be watching here on channel 2, are there any homes being threatened at this point . If you do know, where are those located . Yeah, we did increase our evacuations last night in coordination with the napa county sheriffs office. That included the jerusalem grade road, the spruce grove road north side of it, noble ranch road and cantwell ranch road. All right. Really quickly, you mentioned Middletown High School as an evacuation center. There were two other locations. Can you describe those really requestic . Yeah, the two Evacuation Centers are one in clear lake at the highlands senior center. Thats run by the red cross. We have an additional evacuation at Middletown High School, and we also have an Animal Evacuation Center set up at the social Services Parking lot on Anderson Ranch parkway and thats in lower lake. All right. Paul lowenthal. Rocky fire continues to spread, 5,000 acres at this point,. Youre welcome, have a good morning. Thank you paul. And two structures burned also. Let me put it on a map for you here. I just got off the phone with the Police Department and they clay fired a little bit. Theyre not clarified it a little bit. They did say it happened on the 2200 block of lombard street. It looks like only eastbound lombard streets thats heading into San Francisco is closed, but theres a huge traffic jam on lombard street going the other way as you come up on whatever the scene is. We had reports that it involved some sort of a traffic collision, but it also is involving something else. Now we do have a reporter on the way, but as far as you need to know, if youre getting off the Golden Gate Bridge and going down into the marina district, you need to know its going to be a big delay getting past the palace of fine arts and getting into San Franciscos marina district. In my opinion it would be worth it for you to take the 19th avenue exit and go around. Dont get on doyle drive and come down to the marina that way. Youre just going to be stuck in a lot of traffic. Theres a detour set up, but this is really causing a big traffic jam in this area. Were going to find out how long its going to be. The police wouldnt say but were thinking this is going to be a longterm closure was lets move along to some other things here. They did get a little more of a westerly or a southwesterly breeze, kelceyville, 63 degrees. Higher elevations running higher. A little bit of a northerly breeze there at knoxville creek. Its still going to be very hot there, cooler coming in by the tropical clouds but for the bay area its going to be cooler for almost everybody today. Big fog bank. Most locations have a decent breeze, not all but most. Santa rosa says calm. Diana says no breeze here either, not much in the north bay, 22, 12, west, for some the breeze has picked up. 60s for some of the temps, not the 70s we had yesterday. 50s and 60s, and the water temps went down a little bit. We have some of the coolest water in the west. Thats for sure. The higher clouds are coming up around a low and a high. The combination are going to funnel in a lot of cloud cover over the next couple of days. Starting with some of that cloud cover, the Universal City is getting some rain this morning, and some of that cloud cover is on the way for us. It will still be kind of muggy, humid inland but a good 10, 12 degree drop on some of these temps. We go cloudy to mostly cloudy late tonight and friday. A possibility of showers and thundershowers. For us it will be very close on friday. By the weekend well get more of a southwest wind in the upper atmosphere. That will push that cloud cover east. Today and tomorrow would be the two best opportunities. 60s to 90s for most. It will be a good drop for inland temps. Mostly cloudy on friday, then cool as we go into the weekend. Youll be busy, pal. You are busy. I have been busy. I know. Taking care of people. All right steve, time is 6 53.
