for joining us on kron 4 news at 5 o clock. i m grant lotus and i m vicki liviakis. that announcement was made today. anybody who lives or works in that county. can now sign up for the vaccine. that s 2 days before the state plans to expand eligibility to everyone 16 and older. and this is just the latest bay area county to let more people get the shots. indeed. san francisco is also opening vaccine eligibility to everyone. 16 and older. that announcement was made this afternoon. the city had previously opened eligibility in that age range to certain zip codes. 8 of them. but now it s everybody. health officials say so far that 60% of all residents 16 and older have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine. san francisco is currently vaccinating 12,000 people a day on average and the state is set to open vaccine appointments. everybody 16 and older starting on thursday. another piece of good news here. also in santa clara county today, officials announced a huge increase in
the police department says mario gonzalez suffered a medical emergency. his family says he was murdered. kron four s. phillipe djegal joins us live from outside the police department over now me to wear the gonzalez family held an emotional news conference today condemning the officers involved feliepe. sonars and grant the gonzalez family says that the video clearly shows that mario was not violent or confrontational and that the officers simply took it too far. the city of alameda releasing body camera footage showing what led up to an in-custody death last week. it shows officers struggling to detain mario gonzalez. at one point he was t>ken to the ground where at least one officer laid on top gonzalez was distressed and cried out for help several times and eventually stopped responding to officers when it appears he lost consciousness. police then performed cpr. he did not survive still doesn t get it from reason. you know, when you know outside the alameda police d
what unfolded with mario gonzalez dying. the 26 year-old and initially what we are learning is that there was a call into the police department of an intoxicated person in front of a home on oak street when the 2 police officers arrived, they saw mario and they asked him what his name key did not give them his name. according to the police in the video and you can hear the audio and then they try and restrain him. that s when he goes to his stomach. they are trying to put him into custody and then he stops breathing. now, a short time ago, i spoke with the interim police chief here in alameda about the death. and about the calls that the family is saying that mario was murder. yeah. i would say that first of all, our condolences go to the gonzalez family. nobody wants this. nobody wants. men lose their life regardless, especially under these kind of circumstances. like i said, involvement with the our condolences go to and then our appeals to the community that we re doing
