Were taking a live look outside across the Golden Gate Bridge on this gorgeous day. We have gayle ong here so we can talk about whats going on. Is this just the beginning of of the heat for like the next couple of days . It is actually and tomorrow looks like youll be hotter inland. We could see some 90s. Heres San Francisco and it looks like theres a break in the wind here. It was breezy all day. We have a some offshore flow. So you may have noticed it was a warm breeze in the city. Here are the current temperatures. So 79 degrees in downtown San Francisco at this 03 00pm hour. I did see this number did reach 80 at one point today. So it was a warm when we havent seen that temperatures since last october. You also see more 80s across the board santa rosa. 85 right now here at 86 in san jose. 84 degrees. So tomorrow looks like will be reaching the 90s in our inland areas. So berkeley, for example, youll see a cool down tomorrow because we have a change in the winds and thats going to help cool places down like the coast and with that gap reaching berkeley and oakland, you could see temperatures down to the low 80s and then back to the 70s as the days go by concord. Kristen vending you work at San FranciscoGeneral Hospital. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me today. Its great to be here. So what drove you to become a nurse . So the need for assistance labor and delivery. I had my daughter and was instantly hooked on helping have a safe birth. And so i am in labor and delivery. Its a covered San FranciscoGeneral Hospital today. So this a Career Change for you . It was. It was. But it was the right thing to do. Once you know, become a labor and delivery nurse is a huge part of my life. Im very proud of the work that we do. My colleagues when i help women have help reestablish what normal birth can be. We also help incredibly high risk patients as well. Patients have Substance Use issues, patients that have Mental Illness issues, patients to only seek medical care during their pregnancies. So we are the first point of Health Care Access for many of our patients and for some of our patients, we actually have a subset of patients who have a higher morbidity and mortality rates. Then women in south sudan and south sudan is the most dangerous place in the world to give birth at. So we are there helping our patients. Were incredibly hire a. They and get connected to the resources that they need. So that their lives and the lives of their children can be greatly improved. We want to make a really big impact on our patients lives and we love. But we do. We have the best patients in the world. Yeah. What do you love about being a nurse . Making impact helping him how . Patients become empowered knowing what their bodies can do and knowing what they can access within their community is the resources that they need get housing event have long term connections with doctors and their childrens pediatrician. You know, medical care something that even you you end up doing for your children, right . So you want to empower these parents to be the best parents that they can be. But you have to give them lots of tools and also a lot of inspiration. And its its a its a wonderful thing to do. So what would you say that anyone who is aspiring to be a nurse or in Nursing School . Now theyre thinking about it or maybe theyre like you were they thinking . Maybe could do this one day. What would you like to say that . I for it. Absolutely. You need to be prepared that we have been seeing a nursing shortage coming in for decades and its here in labor and delivery along. We have missed 3,500 breaks in the last year. So that trickles down to patient care. So you have to be an advocate for your patience, but you have advocate for each other for other nurses out there. Thats why im here today at laguna honda hospital at this rally asking the 32 staff up. We are here to stand up for each other and stick up for each other and we need the city to give us more Fulltime Position because the patients deserve it. We did out an ugly. We are chronically shortstaffed. We did reach out to the hospital for comment about that. But so far have not heard back. So. Well let you know when we do. Along the embarcadero and we have kron fours gayle ong in the Weather Center with a look at just how much hotter were going to get to already reached like the peak of the heat for the day. I think we did. You know, 03 00pm is usually the warmest time of the day. San francisco is reporting 77, but i did see 81 over by dolores park today and you can see statewide. Were pretty warm. Sacramento close to 90 as well as bakersfield. Little cooler by the coast. A san diego and santa barbara. But we will be warming up. And here is the bay area. Temperatures still 79 degrees in downtown San Francisco. We see a lot of 80s on the map and we havent seen this. While specially francisco since october, we havent seen a tease. So as you can see, pretty warm out there. Even a point raise that station at 83 degrees. The coolest spot right now is Half Moon Bay. Theres a lot of people out there beating the heat at last check. Temperatures are in the 60s and this is why you have a southerly flow back here. So that cool ocean air is cooling things off by Half Moon Bay. We still have some offshore winds here and that is whats warming us that. So thats that wind from the land we typically see in our late fall. The diablo winds. So lets jump ahead to tomorrows forecast highs. We are seeing 90s in the forecast, though, to concord livermore, antioch, and i would say santa rosa could see 90s as well. And you can see 80s along the bay in fremont and hayward, San Francisco still expected to reach 70 degrees, which is still pretty warm in the city. Half moon bay still in the 60s and 80s in nevado and mill valley. So looking ahead of this heat will stick around. As you just saw for our inland communities. And this weekend looks like a hot one as well. We will be cooling down a bit to more seasonable averages by the coast will show you that 7 day again. When i come back. Gayle, thank you. The California PublicUtilities Commission or cpsc approved a plan allowing major Utility Companies in the state including pg and socal edison and san diego, gas and electric to impose a fixed charge on most of their customers, monthly utility bills. Specifically the plan includes a new flat fee of 24. 15 per month. Coming up to about 290 per year. In return, the utilities will cut their electricity prices by 5 to 0. 7 per kilowatt hour. Supporters say the plan will help pay for grid maintenance and in the long run will make it more affordable for californians who need to use electricity for Green Technology like overnight electric vehicle charging backers also believe it low income californians noting per the plan. Those already enrolled in the low income, california. Alternate rates for Energy Program or care will face a dramatically discount a monthly fee of 6. This is a fair proposal. Implementing a reasonable fix charge that help support the fixed costs of the grid. We commend the cpc on taking action today in support of the fixed charge. And because of their action today, relief is coming to californians who need it most, but not everyone opponents held this demonstration outside the cpu see hearing demanding commissioners reject the plan. Its appointed by the governor and theyre going to set the what to say. You know, 2 or 3 years from now, they dont continue to raise that. The it impacts the every case, every single rate payer in california. And so cal edison and sdg, any customers will see this plan take effect for them in late 2025.
