Kron 4 s Charles Clifford has the latest. Well, every year millions of people use the hegenberger corridor right behind me here to get to and from the oakland airport. It is a very important part of oaklands economy. And today, the city in the county wanted to reassure the public that they are working on addressing the issues on monday morning, oakland mayor sheng thao along with the Oakland Police department, the california Highway Patrol, the Alameda County Sheriffs Office and Community Leaders gathered to reassure the public, but they are working on addressing problems along the hegenberger corridor. This is a key gateway to oakland and its a vital element to our citys economic engine. The city says that auto burglaries, robberies and larceny along hegenberger have actually decreased over the last year, but admit that theres still a lot of work to do to restore public con idence. The city says they are increasing the number of Oakland Police officers along hegenberger 7 days a week. Theyre also adding foot patrols and trust building officers installing security cameras and spending 2 Million Dollars to add safety ambassadors and private security to gas stations and other businesses along hegenberger, the california Highway Patrol which has occasionally deployed officers in oakland to assist opd says they will also continue to be available as needed. The chp will continue can to conduct unannounced Search Operations alongside our Law Enforcement partners, agencies in high crime areas across the east bay region. Some developing news now is police have arrested a 70 yearold woman who allegedly crashed into a family of 4 waiting at a bus stop killing 3 members of that family. Officers say that mary lau was driving in the west porter naval, her neighborhood when she crashed. And now an infant is still in Critical Condition. Kron fours Michael Thomas has the latest. A tragic situation to say the least 3 out of those 4 family members dying because of this accident over the weekend. And that one survivor, an infant listed under Critical Condition and still in the hospital today. It happened saturday afternoon in San Franciscos west portal neighborhood on a low, a street. Officials say the driver of an suv slammed into a muni bus shelter while driving eastbound hitting multiple people and leaving 3 dead. 2 died at the scene with a 3rd dying in the hospital sunday. Neighbors tell us it was a family of 4 that was hit and the father and child died at the scene and the mother is the one who passed in the hospital. Police have confirmed that there is one survivor thats an infant end currently remains in Critical Condition, adding that the driver of the suv was also injured and that the accident is still under investigation. But they do not believe Traffic Engineering was a factor. We spoke with a Sustainable Transportation advocate that says he started a petition on like to have the intersection close permanently. Police are investigating 2 drunkdriving accidents. One of them sent a motorcyclist to the hospital. Police say the first crash happened around 11 saturday night when a man rear ended a motorcyclist while driving on petaluma boulevard. They say he admitted to driving under the influence. The motorcyclists then went to the hospital with a possible broken leg. And then a few hours later, officers say a man crashed his car into a roundabout and then ran away. This happened on south adelle boulevard and baywood drive police found him hiding in between some houses. They say just a few blocks away. Today the Supreme Court is considering whether the Biden Administration violated the First Amendment by urging social media platforms to remove posts that the administration decided were false or misleading. Washington correspondent Trevor Shirley is in dc with more. The case was brought by 2 republican attorneys general who accuse the white house of being on a campaign of censorship. The case centers on the white houses efforts to combat misinformation, specifically related to covid19 and the 2020 election. The lawsuit claims the administration colluded with social media platforms to identify individuals and organizations that the white house believe were responsible for disinformation since last year. The case has been making its way towards the Supreme Court. A lower Court Previously decided the administration likely had gone too far and urging social Media Companies to remove specific content. The counter the governments positions. The white house says the government should be able to work with social Media Companies to address matters of public concern, especially related to safety. If this court reaches the merits and should reaffirm the government speech crosses the line into coercion, only viewed objectively it conveys a threat of adverse government action. And because no thats happened here, the Court Reversed the government has no right to persuade platforms to violate americans. Constitutional rights and pressuring platforms in back rooms, shielded from public view is not using the bully pulpit at all. Thats just being a bully. And sunny, low pressure, keeping things rather active there in parts of nevada and in parts of the 4 corners, even a little bit. Parts of Southern California. And that is because its a blocking pattern known as a rex block. When we get the jet stream kind making this pattern me almost see and s like shape or 8 and it kind of locks these 2 things into each other and it takes something kind of dramatic to bump it out of the way. Now we will get that happening, but its going to take a little time. So we still got some of the sunshine to contend with until we get to about thursday friday. Well start to see a change. That does mean see that fog in the mornings. But by the time we get to the weekend, well see a real change in this pattern where low pressure starts to move in and starts to bringing that chance of rain and a little sierra snow. So take a look at this. Heres that system getting its act together. By the time we get into thursday, well start to notice a few clouds moving in. But friday later in the day is when this system comes in through the weekend. And again, some sierra snow on tap with this as well. So it will be beneficial rain. Starbucks would not comment on the suit, but a spokesperson says customers can access nondairy options with no extra charges. Family claims that the model xs auto pilot malfunction causing the tesla crashed headfirst into a safety barrier on highway 101 in mountain view. His family says tesla misled them and other consumers into thinking that the autopilot system was safe and would handle the driving duties. They say that he was so confident that he engaged the program and then started playing video games on his phone before he crashed. Tesla says its auto pilot does not prevent all accidents but makes them less likely to occur. It also claims that weighing repeatedly ignored warnings to retake control of his tesla. His family is saying an ntsb investigation that wrapped up a year and a half ago after the deadly crash said that teslas autopilot system did not properly recognize the lane markings before the crash. Theres also a settlement involving tesla involving a multi Million Dollars. And this is a Racial Discrimination lawsuit. This is the second settlement stemming from a lawsuit filed indias a black man who worked as an elevator operator at the companys fremont plant. Diaz says that his colleagues left racist graffiti in the restrooms and regularly used racist language. A federal jury previously war to diaz. 3. 2 Million Dollars in damages. The terms of the second settlement are confidential. Tesla denies the allegations of racism and says it has a track record of equal employment opportunities. Not that far from international boulevard and esperanza elementary school. Police say that they found a San Francisco man shot later died at the scene. An oakland man was taken into custody for the shooting. Police have not showed any details about this arrest. The second shooting happened just before 1 oclock saturday on international boulevard on the corner of 8th avenue near clinton park officers on the scene say they found evidence of the shooting but they could not find a victim. And then they later learned. But a person suffering from a gunshot wound took themselves to the hospital. Berkley police are investigating citys first homicide of the year yesterday afternoon. Officers found the victim stabbed to death on University Avenue between san pablo avenue in sacramento street Police Arrested one person they believe was involved. Antioch police are investigating the suspicious death of a man who was found badly burned. Contra costa fire. The crews there called police on saturday after discovering a person who was severely burned and deceased in the back area of metal in court crime investigators took over the case and the persons cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner. In the north bay. The Petaluma Police Department Says more than 30 vehicles were targeted in what appears to be a car breakin spree. The fest happened all over the city on saturday night. The Police Department is now asking anyone who lives near these areas to check there home surveillance videos to see if they captured any of these incidents. Emergency crews responded to a crash in San Franciscos pac heights neighborhood citizens app shows the car flipped over on its side. This is on jackson street. Fire crews say the driver of the car also crashed into parked cars safe to say that the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment. No word on what caused the crash to happen. In the north. A Sonoma County deputies had to use an airlift to help out a camper experienced a severe medical emergency at lake snow over the weekend. Check this out to about 3,000 to 4500 feet. So plenty of cold air to get some of that snow going, which means that were looking out for this system in the sierra next weekend to bring about a foot to foot and a half of snow. Thats great news because it adds to our snow pack that we have fought so hard to gain and it helps to kind of hang on to it a little bit longer. Meanwhile, bringing it back to the bay. This time, though the problem was not discovered until the plane landed a kron fours. Dan thorn has the details. Another issue for United Airlines flight leaving sfo after landing at Rogue Valley International medford airport friday afternoon. United aircraft was found without an external panel. Medford airport spokesperson says they were forced to briefly pause operations on the runway to look for any debris. None was found. This is a very minor incident in the grand scheme of things. Retired commercial Airline Pilot doug rice says. The external panel is an aluminum fairing which helps smooth the air against the plane making for a smoother ride. This specific boeing 7. 37. Is a 25 yearold aircraft. And rice says at that age metal fatigue can set these aircraft, go through a significant amount of maintenance they should be catching these things. What were learning now is that we have to be more aware of these things as they go through maintenance and double checking and triple checking the this latest issue for united is making some passengers feel uneasy on thursday. A flight approaching sfl had a hydraulic leak with some smoke seen by the landing gear. Last week, a japanbound plane lost a wheel during takeoff and had to make an Emergency Landing in los angeles. United spokesperson says there wasnt an Emergency Landing in oregon because there was no indication of damage during the flight. The shootings happened last night in the downtown bar area between spring break Saint Patricks day at a golf tournament. That area was just packed with people. Police allege initially warned of an active shooter situation and place the area locked down. One of the shooting started as police were ordering a crowd young people to disperse. Officer say 2 men shot at each other. Both of those men were hit a bystander also shot the 3 victims are still alive. The 2 other shootings happened outside of bars later on in the night and one person was killed in those shootings. Its not clear if the incidents are connected and today a 30 authorities are searching for multiple shooters. As a result, their Response Time was 0 seconds. Like i said, they had me doing it tempting apprehend suspects and immediately rendered medical aid. Victims sister. The motive for the shootings remain unclear and a little bit further south of jacksonville. There was this shocking video of a teenager pulling a gun out on a packed crowd of spring breakers. This started with a fist fight. Deputy body camera video shows the 16 yearold pulling out a gun waving at the crowd when officers started to chase and they say the teen ran off into the ocean and see the white tshirt out there. But he did surrender after about 5 minutes. The sheriff says the teenager was carrying about 20 bags of marijuana. He was wanted on 7 warrants, including Armed Robbery and now is facing many more charges. The cdc is updating its spring break travel guidelines amid an outbreak of measles spreading around the globe. The agency is now advising travelers to consult their doctors at least 6 weeks before their trip to make sure that their vaccinations are up to date. It was previously recommended that you check with your doctor at least a month in advance. The cdc has reported cases across 17 states with the majority of those cases being unvaccinated residents who became infected during international travel. New data reveals that marriage rates have gone up and divorce has gone down after the pandemic.
