Safety concerns with those driverless waymo and cruise vehicles have San Franciscos City Attorney asking the California PublicUtilities Commission to pause the expansion of those 2 companies. And this comes remember after the cpu see gave its ok for unlimited expansion just last week. Kron fours dan kerman reports. One day after the cpc gave cruise and waymo the green light to expand operations. This was the scene in north beach last friday when more than a handful of driverless cruise vehicles came to a stop causing a big traffic backup. Now, San FranciscoCity Attorney has filed a motion asking the California PublicUtilities Commission to put the brakes on that expansion. Weve seen too many reports of safety issues of incidents where the operations of First Responders have been impacts on traffic flow and public challenges around street construction. In the filing, the city of San Francisco wants to pause the unlimited expansion to give the city time to file a motion seeking a new hearing. So the cpu see can address safety issues. The city thinks were overlooked to a very much like them. To stage their expansion and tie it to safety metrics we also think the cqc should have considered environmental impacts under state law. The addition of thousands of Autonomous Vehicles on the streets of San Francisco. What that means in the filing, the San FranciscoFire Department cites 59 instances. Were Autonomous Vehicles have interfered with firefighters since april of last year. Among the incidents failing to yield to fire vehicles, blocking fire vehicles driving over fire hoses and entering active emergency scenes and getting in the way of firefighters granting an unlimited expansion at this stage. And in the meantime, continue providing safe and accessible mobility to san franciscans. The cpsc says its full panel will address the citys request to pas expansion as soon as practicable. Dan kerman kron, 4 news. Coming up tonight on kron, 4 news 8. The hurricane was upgraded from a Tropical Storm as it turns off the Pacific Coast of mexico. Lifeguards in san diego say theyre already seeing an uptick in swells. There. Theyre closely monitoring the different pass. A hurricane might take and how the hurricane will affect the sir. I think its going to be fun. Hopefully if it gets close enough know the water really cold right now. So that night keep the hurricane coming in, hitting here long as its super windy. Unlike the surface all blue now, i think it will be weather officials are expecting heavy rain in Southern California this weekend with some rain storms and thunderstorms lasting through monday. And kron fours gayle ong is here and has been tracking the storm. Gail. Yeah, very dangerous system. Now. It has now upgraded to a category 3. You can see it here. The view from the satellite imagery, its quite incredible. And also a welldefined eye there. And that surfer is right. It may be fun, but the concern here with this is going to be amount of rain thats going to produce. Heres a closer look at where hurricane hilary is right now. So just 430 miles south of cabo san lucas, a sustained winds of 125 Miles Per Hour. And by tomorrow, expected to upgrade to a category 4. This is a projected track for now. So you can see that it eventually makes its way towards baja, california. Theres already some warnings, tropical warnings and hurricane watch in cabo san lucas. And then as it makes its way towards los angeles, its is should weaken to a Tropical Storm because the ocean waters are much colder. Now weekend, that system. So as for the pap pap is not clear right now, were still trying to refine this forecast. But we have this low pressure thats been cooling us down here in the bay area. And we have this high here in the desert and this is the project that so far. It is looking like its going inland. So places like las vegas, los angeles, fresno bakersfield can produce a lot of rain. Projected rain totals over the next couple of days from sunday through wednesday. Take a look over 2 inches of rain in l a almost 2 inches in las vegas and down a 3 south. So this is a time where we usually dont get any rain. So as for how this is going to impact us in the bay area, you can expect some cloudy skies, more muggy conditions like we have been experiencing some humidity. So here is is so the takeaways we should be feeling the impacts of hillary sometime sunday through monday. You can see already the bulk of rain moving through los angeles and then giving us some rain as well and some clouds and maybe some thunderstorms because we have been dealing with our own weather pattern here with some monsoonal moisture producing thunderstorms in the sierra temperatures. Right now were mild. So we have cooled down. Were in the 80s at this hour and we want to give you a look at your extended a forecast. We are seeing a cooling trend here. So thats good news for us inland. So more seasonable averages. The low 90s and then monday, tuesday, thats when you notice that change in the pattern. So were keeping an eye on that rain and the direction current hillary is going. Thank you, gayle. Also, please announce that the governor has expanded anita, the local Law Enforcement agencies werent astounding. 85 million dollars. To help the local agencies investigate deter and disrupt retail theft crimes from occurring scenes like these may call into question whether or not the Retail Task Force is making a difference. Officials at the california Highway Patrol provided the stats showing the recovery of over 300,000 assets and over 1200 arrest. I was actually thrilled to see whats going on with the you know, cri california retailers. We introduced the original bell. To establish the organized Retail Crime Task force is back in 2018. The president of the california retailers association, Rachel Michelin applause, governor gavin newsom and state legislators for getting behind the Retail Task Force. But not everyone is on board. Capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace talked with supporters and opponents and has a look at that proposal. Well, as it stands today, many proposed local tax measures in bonds need at least twothirds approval from voters to pass. But some democrats here at the capitol say. That threshold is just too high. Get this done. Thank you. Thank you. Get this done. Thats exactly what these lawmakers and public safety, housing and labor advocates say they want to do with a ca one proposed state constitutional amendment to lower the voter threshold needed to approve general obligation, bonds and local special taxes for infrastructure and Affordable Housing projects. As it stands today, such bonds and special tax proposals need approval from at least twothirds or 66 of voters to go into effect. Ca one would reduce that approval threshold to 55 move. The supporters say will make it easier for local governments to fund much needed Affordable Housing and infrastructure in their communities. Aca, one is so important. Assembly speaker pro tem cecilia dr currie authored the proposal. This will empower local communities to take action at the local level. To improve their economies, their neighborhoods and their residents quality of life. Those here say the twothirds threshold first established from voters passed prop 13 in 1978. Its just too high. Lets stop with his anti democratic nonsense. Where 65 of residents could be in favor of something and that somehow not good enough. This is a modest proposal to bring it down to a 55 threshold. This makes common sense. It allows our local voters who want to be a part of the solution to activate their own democratic participation to do that. But on the republican side. Enough is senator janet nguyen and several of her gop colleagues in the senate and assembly say aca one is an excuse for politicians to raise taxes on californians. Were so overt acts in california. Its all about give me more money. Give me more money and then would figure it out. State has felt weve given them more money every time theyve asked, what do they do with it . Besides whatever they want to do with it, they dont actually fix the problem. They promised us.
