Currently the program is helping 12 teachers live at the apartments in oaklands laurel district half of those teachers are bay area natives in a majority of them are people of color. The program aims to recruit and retain educators in the oakland community, the dean of education at Mills College says its beneficial for both the teachers and the students. Splaine our of the community and connect with values the the connections there it makes for a more Stable School and learning environment more stable workforce because they are also supported in so doing so just creates a context where all are more likely to stay in the field for a bit longer and to really achieve some of the educational games that we want to see in our community schools. Surveillance and Police Body Camera footage from november 14th show the moment, a Sacramento Police sergeant runs toward the sound of gunfire and fatally shoots unarmed man 38 yearold augustine morales. In the moments that led up to this the sergeant witnessed a crowd running from a warehouse on julius avenue they had gathered there to watch a live boxing event in the video you hear witnesses tell the sergeant theres a man waving a gun around around seen approaching the open doors at the warehouse sunday, his gun into the crowd. And an unknown subject inside of the building fires went to direction the subtitles in this video are added by the Sacramento Police department and the commentary provided by Public Information officer Sergeant Sabrina briggs starting to rise and also fires mirallas striking him multiple times mirallas can be heard saying i didnt shoot anybody then he slides a gun toward the sergeant shortly after this backup arrives officers. Render medical aid to morale us until relieved by Sacramento Fire Department personnel. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased Sacramento Police say they located a shooting victim with a nonlife threatening wound related to this event. Investigators do not believe that victim was struck by the sergeants Firearm Police say the person who was shooting from inside the warehouse has not been identified they got the wrong man relatives of mirallas and a family spokesperson held a News Conference after watching the footage with Sacramento Police chief daniel hahn theyre calling for justice and accountability he was hit in the back. Previous reports have been that augustine was seen firing his weapon into an open building inside of a warehouse, however, the video footage that we saw this afternoon is contradictory to that in fact augustine never fired his firearm theres somebody still out there. You have been here throughout the week working with families i mean talk to me the faces on that come here to pick up there items whats that people are generally very happy and thankful to have this especially in a time like this with the and folks are really struggling so to have a 100 worth him. Makes a big difference and people are generally very appreciative of that right look i was you are going to show me a lot of the items that were going in the basket for the families, what all is in there. So theres a turkey, theres a hand and theres like vixens for family of 5 thats how its structured to ends up being about a 50 pound box so its its a lot of food and its all geared around giving happy thanksgiving to we know, many food banks across the bay have really been affected especially during coronavirus.
