The tarmac there skies are generally going to clear as we work our way through this morning and as that happens more and more favorable weather for waiting in lines at the polls even this morning, although it is cool and gray for some areas still not at all about morning to get out there were in the 40s and 50s for most of us oakland, the warm spot right now at 57 degrees while the cooler side in areas like santa rosa starting off this morning at 45 degrees later today, its 70s and ill give you more details about what to expect. Later on still to come robin all right, thank you john a little busy out there traffic still jammed up crossing the bay, especially heading into San Francisco, heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza approach and yes, its still pretty crowded from the bottom of the maze. Its been like that for the last 2 hours or so its not a terrible commute, but its definitely crowded and still under 15 minutes to make it and so thats considered pretty good. Were checking in on some numbers keep in mind that the is sure is recovering from an earlier up break after richmond i believe approaching richmond else to read also thats out of the 21 minutes here from crockett to so thats a slight improvement, no problems for 24 out of wannacry to the caldecott both 5. 80 in the nimitz looking good from 2. 38 to downtown oakland both commutes under 15 minutes. And theres new video this morning democratic president ial nominee joe biden in scranton pennsylvania, this is video of him visiting his childhood home. County Registrars Office good morning will. James darya a steady stream of people coming through as you can see there right behind me doesnt take long for people to vote and looks like they already have their minds made up on many issues so its by a few minutes at the polling place in the drop it off in the ballot box right behind me and theyre on their way. Despite covid19 it looks like there is a decent crowd, even they said that bin it looks relatively the same from previous years, lets talk to some of the voters here who sarah i just saw you wrap up and youre about to walk out the door so thank you for stopping by and talking to us. No a lot of people choosing by mail why did you choose to go in person. I did have a mail in ballot. It just kind of feels. Typical of what i would do every other year, so i wanted to stay. Close to that it feels better to vote in person for myself, but any issue that you are kind of on the fence about or you just were pretty deliberate and what you wanted and who you want it. I was ive been looking at most things for a while now so im getting some perspective from my community and the people around me so i pretty much knew what i wanted okay, thank you so much, thank you so much for that i can tell you that. A lot of people are talking about whether or not it is fully. Safe as far as the Voting System and according to the register voters in Contra Costa County they tested about 16,000 ballots before they even open up to the public just to make sure that they were not 99. 9 accurate instead 100 accurate anything less they would not have done this. So come on down here you can come in person and register to vote present your drivers license and they can get you ready you can see that gentleman there with his back to us hes being register right now go to the polls only takes a few minutes and then they have a dropoff box with people outside if youre driving by with your mail in ballot. You can just hand it to them back to you. Well. And those are actually the results are in for 2 small towns in New Hampshire. They vote at the stroke of midnight on election day in dixville notch. Its a sweep for joe biden with all 5 of the votes of that town going to him and then theres another smalltown millsfield New Hampshire that one went to President Trump. He won 16 votes to bidens. If only it were that easy and potentially all the voting on your hands, but thats not the case more than 4 million eligible, california voters. Still havent even registered to vote for the election and if youre one of them. Theres still time in california you can register in person at the polls today the process is actually Pretty Simple you go to the polls you have to fill out some basic information with your Mailing Address you have to have 2 documents that show who you are and i d proof of address. You have a california drivers license or state id or permanent bring that with you if you dont have a california id thats ok just bring any government issued id that you have you can bring drivers license from another state you could bring a pass or even bring your student id with you and then bring some official piece of paper that shows your and your current california address you can bring a utility bill you can bring a Bank Statement you could bring a you could bring your lease with you. This has been a deal in california it became law back in 2012 for registration. Your forecast is ahead. Im tracking your commute around the bay area checking in on the Richmond Center fell bridge. Yes, its still very crowded and recovering from an earlier accident nothing in the way right now but its slow at the tolls all the way out to mid span. So about 40 minutes to the north bay, ill check more bridges coming up. Woman after covid, my hours got cut. So we cant pay our bills. And now our Family Budget is gonna be hit hard with prop 15. The yes on 15 ads say it only raises taxes on big corporations. Thats not true were all going to pay. 11 billion in new property taxes will get passed on to Small Businesses and farms. Theyll raise prices. Higher gas, health care, food. Even day care. We cant make ends meet now. Families cant afford 15. No on prop 15. Back at 8. 12 and here we have some new video as we keep an eye on states across the country with millions of people heading to the polls today we have scenes from milwaukee, Wisconsin High School gym. This was the scene earlier this morning, the lines forming up too long in this particular polling place this is one of the areas that biden needs to run up the score if he has any hope of flipping wisconsin blue. Again after President Trump won there in 2016 all of the polls leading up to today indicate that he will likely do that. But of course we wont know for sure until those votes are talents pretty quiet compared to some of the other shots that weve seen around the country, lets take a peek all another jim miss in houston. Looks also pretty quiet there right now texas is already seen more votes cast this year than in 2016. And that was just with the early voting in texas is pretty and say i think the last count there like it, but a 108 of what they did in 2016 not including today which is insane to think about turnout is incredible and it is pretty fun actually showing you. These live shots around the country and here from washington dc with the white house. In the balance and the fate of the presidency, hanging in the balance today and were seeing the returns will be coming in tonight, well be with you all day all night and tomorrow morning all right, lets get you caught up on weather and traffic before we get back to the political news of the day weve got josh rubble in the Weather Center good morning. John. Good morning guys, yeah, all important forecast today for everyone us standing out at the polls. We want good weather and weve got it here in the bay area sunshine at the coast right now in Half Moon Bay, some spots across the bay area do have some low clouds that are still hanging out across the bay but we are seeing clearing conditions for most of us its going to set us up for really nice day today now this past weekend to remember were in the 80s even the 90s this upcoming weekend is going to be just the opposite the 50s in the 60s. Today is the sweet spot right between we saw really weak trough pushing through last night all that does is help to weaken the highpressure ridge that had been bringing us some really warm temperatures. Today tomorrow thursday, all looking beautiful, then comes friday and the cool down just around the corner really good timing here because you want good weather for election day. But we also need to start seeing some wintry precipitation for the Sierra Nevada, a good dose of snow starting friday. As for the bay area are chance of any sort of precipitation definitely a bit more uncertain if we do see any sort of rainfall looks to be maybe a sprinkle here or there. Saturday skies clear out a bit we are going to stay cool though with daytime high still just 50s 60s all the way inland and then sunday, another shot at maybe a couple of sprinkles isolated nothing widespread across the bay area as for todays temperatures, this is the important one for sure as you are stepping out there its 60s at the coast, San Francisco 10 degrees cooler than it was yesterday we had mission in financial districts in the upper 70s yesterday today just upper 60s 70s for most of our bayside cities with foster city at 73 san carlos in Mountain View and i 75 degrees each with temperatures in the south bay, mostly mid to upper 70s 70s continue out to the east bay too yesterday most of these areas were solid 80s even oakland got up to 80 degrees today only 70 berkeley enrichment in the upper 60s and only one 80 remains today. Thats for you in vacaville 80 degrees. Fairfield in antioch each at 78 while santa rosa down through mill valley all also in the 70s today. Today tomorrow and thursday all looking really nice if you like sunshine and warmth. Well today tomorrow and thursday after your chances do enjoy it. Before we get to the cooler stuff come friday saturday sunday and monday as i mentioned we do have the slightest of chances of rainfall both friday and again on sunday more so than not though the biggest differences, youll notice, or just the temperatures. Robin. All right. Thank you john were checking back in on the bridges this time around heading over to the golden gate which is one of the easier commutes right the easier bridges, one oh one here south which is on the left into San Francisco, its doing fine, youre clocking in at a very quick 20 minutes and thats from nevado to the toll plaza on the San Francisco side here at the bay bridge. We still have a long line head again its been like this for the last few hours lots of stop and go traffic often on from the bottom of the maze so be prepared for that its San Franciscos your destination were under 15 minutes which is still good but you see theres a crowd there at the toll plaza were checking in on 5. 80 because we do have an accident that still westbound just west of el charro so its going to be little slow for you leaving livermore working your way into dublin that just bump you up to 31 minutes new accident just coming in for 5. 18 now its low leaving livermore heading over to the dublin side were checking in on the nimitz freeway which is looking good and recovering from other problems are has recovered from earlier issues thats 22 minutes from to 38 to 2 3717 out of Santa Cruz Mountains looks normal a little busy in pockets 22 minutes heading north from santa cruz into los gatos back to you. In the buzz is not just the last day to cast her ballot for president is also d day for the nfl. The trade deadline is at 01 00pm our time with garoppolo in kendall out for the count and so many other injuries will the fortyniners be playing lets make a deal today, the niners cleared some cap space by moving linebacker Kwon Alexander to the new orleans saints. That doesnt give them a ton of room mode engineer a blockbuster but they could pull off some low and deals before the deadline. Oakland fans are complaining about getting the raw end of the deal again they say these new warrior jerseys are real slap in the face steph looks adorable and it but that doesnt make it look any better that oakland fans have waited 35 years to see their towns name spelled out and you show them the love a year after yet dump them for the city. James to call the new branding the oakland forever campaign after theyve left thats like me going to paris and then you get this crappy euro disney like the that does seem a little ill timed it right for one of like the raiders right now in vegas came out with like throwback. Jersey is greater than said oakland, you know as as just an odd because we still care we still love you oakland, even though we said siya to think its a mess i are a lot you should see what fans are not fit to print okay. A lot of people are going to be betting on the election like it says sports game. Now there no ads on gator aid colors but there are some notable prop bets should we take a look okay, i guess ok so the over under on the number of days it will take to finally settle on winner. Ok thats you know got differently could could be a while the number of celebrities who will actually move to canada. You think somebody is going to move if trump wins to canada or i dont know where will threaten taking chance that trump accept exit gracefully. Thats thats a bet that people are placing their money on gasoline 99. 5 how about the odds of the losing party trying to impeach the winner. And then theres the whole florida thing right there are they going to be in the middle of some electionrelated foul out waiting you know like saying i dont know the idea that and then how scania going do what are the whats the percentage one of the overt even running thats right. Yeah, couple states i actually that somebody wrote me in today now will will tran because of the somebody would have voted for me, but i got on the ballot now lets think about them okay, i want to throw the election james there we go thats the whos supporting prop 15 . This morning after a major accident on the job yesterday a muni bus drove over the hose the firefighter who was using to fight a fire near market and spear street and the force through the firefighter into the air and he landed on his head. He wasnt breathing when the emergency crews got there paramedics managed to get him breathing and they took him to sf general where he is now listed in critical condition. We dont know yet how that bus was able to pass through into an active fire scene. But we do know is that we have hose line going through the streets across the streets. We have emergency vehicles with their red light flashing. Indicating for the california vehicle code to stop and do not proceed to tell other rise to do so. There are several city agencies taking part in the investigation. We dont know yet if there will be any charges filed against the bus driver. A 13 yearold is recovering from gunshot wounds after a road rage incident on interstate 80 in vallejo a short time later police managed to track down the shooter who turned out was from oakland. Weve got really shot its now with the story. Chp say it was a case of road rage late friday night when 2 vehicles came in contact with each other eastbound on interstate 80 near redwood parkway in vallejo. Following some confrontation chp says the suspect in this gold chevy impala fired several shots at another driver who had a 13 yearold boy sitting behind him. The chevy then took off a 13 yearold boy who was the passenger of the victim vehicle. A sustained gunshot wounds to his legs chp officer soon spotted the gold impala in fairfield inn chased it when the driver refused to stop officers intentionally struck the vehicle to disable it. The arrest of the driver 32 yearold Terrell Johnson of oakland we take these things very seriously. Were glad we caught looks like a 13 yearold boy. Is going to be safe officer fransen says they arrested johnson on several felonies including attempted murder shooting at an occupied vehicle assault with a Deadly Weapon and being a felon in possession of a weapon, although investigators at this time dont believe johnson is connected to a similar shooting in fairfield back in august which killed an innocent 26 yearold man chp are looking at other unsolved cases here in the bay area, those cases could include the shooting death of another innocent young man from 2014 that took place in the same vicinity of fridays incident in valais held that suspect drove a gold chevy weve had. Several sporadic shootings throughout or are the bay area within the last few years. We dont take those lightly. Lows going to shed its reporting the boy that was injured in that shooting is expected to make a full recovery. Happening right now in walnut creek in all across the bay area businesses boarding up their windows preparing for civil unrest caused by the election some live with the details coming up. 29 and we are looking around the bay area, the state and the country at the weather and the returns as people are voting today on election day weve got the white house behind us now all eyes on the white houses thats. The most important thing on the ticket that everybodys going to vote on todays who the next president of the United States will be were going to be here all day long bringing you coverage as the results come in. But in all likelihood we probably wont know the official answer until all the votes are counted that could take some time this year yes, so well see you tomorrow morning to look at this he could count on us starting at 04 00am. Right now and take a look at the weather looks like at washington dc is sunny but probably crisp have a fresh yeah little chris little breezy but nice sunshine in dc has for the bay area you see behind me the bay bridge does have a little bit of cloud cover over at the thin marine layer that we are in the midst of those already in the process of burning off for most areas. And we are set up for some nice sunshine. This afternoon already getting it in the hills above a u c berkeley on the east bay. You look in the distance there you can make out those low clouds sitting right above the bay, Half Moon Bay visibility at times is falling pretty low happen itself is actually had a good amount of sunshine this morning, though its really just been pockets of fog very isolated pockets that are becoming less and less as we work our way through the morning 40s and 50s are your current temperatures, it is cool to start make sure to bring the low jacket if youre doing some morning voting. Maybe youre heading outside after lunch to do some voting. Thats going to be the really nice stuff sunshine and 70s to look forward to i plenty more details on that still to come in your full forecast. Robin is joining us for a look at traffic this morning and i always love surprise the bay bridge it looks like its the kind of moderate right now its Getting Better this is a nice improvement compared to our goal so. Slowly improving here at the bay bridge toll plaza but still quite this e so thank goodness youre watching because you can plan ahead right you know that you have a weight you know that its filled back off and on to the bottom of the maze and a little busy across the upper deck. But when you put it all together i mean 15 minutes thats really not bad for your average drive time into San Francisco. So you can handle that at least you dont have any crashes or stalls are hot spots in the mix to add to that but i do have a trouble spot on 5. 80 this is going to impact your commute heading westbound leaving dublin toward says relieving livermore toward the dublin pleasanton side this crash is working at el charro a couple of lanes blocked and its already stocked up well beyond 84 so keep that in mind heavy traffic because of that accident. Thats going bump. You up to 27 minutes total from tracy out to dublin, so ill be watching this will have more drive times coming up for you in a bit james darya. Robin 32 is the time and as we head to the polls this morning this years election does come with some growing concerns about maybe the aftermath of the polk county tonight potential violence. I think that people are worried about whoever wins is going make somebody unhappy and thats why bay area businesses have boarded up their windows. In case there is any on restaurant for Sarah Stinson has been watching that walnut creek morning sarah. Good morning all across walnut creek youll see all kinds of businesses were talking banks, restaurants, Clothing Stores all with their windows boarded up and some are still working on you can see trucks of plywood driving through walnut creek and then you see crews here working on boarding up this building here its a building that says for lease in the window. But theyre not taking any. Theyre not going to take it theyre going to get prepared for the worstcase scenario. The last time we saw windows boarded up in walnut creek was during the protests, a couple months back. Take a look now at video of what theyre doing to prepare for another type of damage or looting that could occur if civil unrest ensues with the election result you can see theyre completely. Barricading and Broadway Plaza here in walnut creek and thats to make sure people can drive up a break through the windows and then loop like they did before now there were peaceful protests protests, but there also crowds of people who werent there to protests in fact they were there too. Break the law and loot and so theyre trying to avoid any of that from happening again caught up with a lot of people here in walnut creek you know Walking Around getting coffee and seeing their windows boarded up in their town. Its not a great feeling. Didnt expect to see this but i guess. Now if the boards are up it probably decreases the likelihood of anything happening they can its kind of the term. Well hopefully that works. And thats the hope hopefully nothing happens. But at least these businesses will be prepared. Now this is also happening in San Francisco and all over the bay area in San Francisco theyve been boarding up businesses for people across the bay area being prepared for this day election day and now it is here business is bracing for the worstcase scenario and police on high alert, im seeing a heavy Police Presence here in walnut creek and they are circling around the shopping areas and making sure they keep an eye on everything reporting live in walnut creek Sarah Stinson kron 4 news, thanks. A lot sarah. Well security measures. Around the State Capitol in sacramento for possible reelection protests. Crews put up metal barricades as you can see here caution tape as well as the barricades. They also set up portable less security lights to on the eastern side of the building. And theres a images of them doing that the Highway Patrol also denying any permits to demonstrate around that building for the week ahead. Also up around the white house is well ahead of any possible protests tonight, this is a new fence located near lafayette square, which is a popular place for tourists. Dc police a handful of groups have applied for demonstration permits for today and the following days. Last week the mayor of washington dc issued parking restrictions on road closures to around the white house for today november, 3rd. About the turnout in the states largest county of los angeles. Yes, so weve got Carlos Herrera from our sister station ktla standing by live at banc of california stadium to tell us what turnout has been like there so far this morning, carlos. And good morning guys that weve seen dozens even hundreds of people here lining up right in front of the back of california state and this is right near downtown l a people lined up early this morning went through those barricades through those doors and take advantage. Voting voting booth center set up inside the stadium also all right in front of us there is a drivethru options are really easy access 10 to 15 minute. Process for people to cast their ballot. In person by the way its really easy to do it at all the 750 vote centers located all across la county voters can head to any of them like usual on election day will be open from 07 00am to 08 00pm theyre expecting millions of californians to cast their votes in la county now voters can expect an easy process with the new ballot marking device which gives access in 13 languages and allows voters to go through the ballot using the audio had said in control pad and it gives them stepbystep instructions on how to vote by the way i spoke with a gentleman early this morning who was a first in line here at the bank of california stadium, he said. He took advantage of that process take a listen. Forget about it was my first time going yeah, i forgot about it and then this year alone, this is a big election and a big year. I think there really is no excuse i mean. You know there are many are praising its safety precaution, someone can take and. And maybe they can you know its a chance for some to make a difference or that. Now a voters want to save some time here in la county at these votes enters an Election Officials recommend using the interactive sample ballot, which allows voters to access. Review unmarked or selections before actually going to a vote center and also generate a qr code with all their selections which they can transfer to a ballotmarking device at any vote center. Well take a quick break here in a 43 coming up next on the kron 00 00am morning news, more younger people are stepping up its own workers were going hear why they chose to get involved despite not being able to vote themselves. Back at 8. 46 and this morning were keeping an eye on states all across the country as millions of people become the voters today as there heading to the polling locations this is the scene in charlotte north carolina, a pretty steady flow of people coming in and voting. North carolina by the way one of the key states that are going to be watched carefully today could very well swing bidens way. President trump is looking to keep it in the republican column, so well see which way it shakes out by the end of the day well we may there. It everybody is watching around the country to see the returns come in. Weve got the white house were keeping our eye on washington dc and the rest of the country as far as weather goes to to see if thats going to get in any poehlers wait, yeah lets find out john trouble, i know here we looking pretty good but other parts of the country for the chilly yeah, theres definitely some cooler weather elsewhere in the country, the northeast is really the problem spot. But really much of the rest of the country despite being cooler than the day will be isnt looking too terribly bad. We are really nice across the bay area today. I mean our happen bake am already showing some sunshine much of the bay area already sitting under the sun after what has been some marine layer having pushed in resulting in some low clouds that are still hanging out for many of us. Jacket this morning if youre waiting to vote this afternoon got 70s to look forward to at least 4 bayside inland spots now weve already seen temperatures cool a bit from this past weekend and its going to be warmer than we will be this next weekend. So were right in the sweet spot in between what has been warmer weather and what will be much cooler weather so take advantage of today get out the vote and then tomorrow and thursday will be just as nice as well we are going to be seeing conditions out there, nice and comfortable today tomorrow and into thursday, but we will be cooling off significantly into friday as a cooler air mass slides into the bay area resulting in snow in the sierra maybe a couple sprinkles in the bay, we clear out on saturday, but we still remain chilly. And then we work our way into sunday with the opportunity of may be another sprinkle or 2 is not looking super likely. But snow up in the Sierra Nevada will be very good news after whats been such a dry season. So far todays daytime highs, mostly 60s, especially right along the coastline. But areas elsewhere in the bay like our bayside inland areas will be pretty solid 70s seeing carlos at 75 along with Mountain View at that same number south bay daytime highs, mostly mid to upper 70s with san jose at 77 was gatos and campbell at 78 degrees east bay temperatures 70s in Hayward Union city in fremont upper 70s in pleasanton dublin and livermore 70s today in oakland after 80 degrees yesterday danville walnut creek and concord upper 70s for you today. Well in the north bay are only 80 is in vacaville right at 80 degrees napa youngsville sonoma sharing a range of 70s well 60s at the coast 70s from mill valley to santa rosa. Tomorrow and thursday temperatures dont change all that much we keep the sunshine around and the warmth for a few more days so if you like weather that weve had lately go ahead and enjoy these next few days as much as possible. After that we see a big cool down into the weekend and we actually stay pretty cool as well so were turning the page in the fall, it looks like after what has been such mild conditions lately get ready to get those jackets back out and keep them back out.
