But we do know that firefighter matthew van a sixyear veteran of the San Francisco Fire Department remains here at zuckerberg General Hospital in Critical Condition after suffering those severe head injuries. Tonight investigators from a number of agencies trying to piece together exactly how this all happened. Around 3. 30 monday afternoon, San Francisco fire crews responded to a call of an electrical fire on the 19th floor of a building near speer in market as fire crews were battling the fire outside a muni bus drove through the scene and over a fire line the impact of throwing San Francisco firefighter nothing then into the air causing him to land on his head. Then rushed to zuckerberg General Hospital in Critical Condition. They were able to bring. The Business Owner here lives nearby and says he heard loud bangs when the thieves used a homemade device to fish meal out of this mailbox once the crooks are gone here and back over to a store to find one ballot on the ground and another in a nearby sewer. The votes dont count from his apartment nearby city will have watched thieves break into the mailbox outside of his corner store at 20 think esther streets early friday morning surveillance cameras at his store reliance market captured the thieves using a homemade device to dig into the mail. I just last friday, another 130,000 ballots have been returned. Many of them dropped off in person like this here outside the registrar of Voters Office on burger drive of just over a million ballots mailed out to voters roughly 617,000 have now been returned since saturday when 100 vote centers open across the county. Another 14,000 people cast their ballots in person were about 60 that have been returned already an hour. Voters are familiar with the vote by mail process they did this in march. Theyre doing it for this election. I think everyones excited all the early voting means the folks doing all the processing and counting of those ballots behind the scenes of had a bit of a head start that should help the registrar make available some significant results, but the time the polls close at 08 00pm tuesday. Really lets you know how important they think that state is with its 20 electoral votes and this is a state that biden cant considers home turf. So he really believes that he has a chance of a winning back the state of pennsylvania and so his strategy is to focus there. But also in the midwest, michigan and wisconsin. These are all places that for a long time were considered democratic strongholds but in 2016. President trump won them by the thinnest of margins so that is where biden is focusing all of his efforts. Alexandra as you put it out you know, pennsylvania and michigan certainly key states in the race for president you know we really may not know the on Election Night so walk us through why not. You know there are also other important states like florida for example, but the thing is that every state has their own set of laws that govern how elections work in those states in florida they can begin counting those absentee and mail in ballots weeks in advance as soon as they get them they can start counting them. In pennsylvania and in michigan that is not the case those states can not even begin to count the mail in ballots until election day so weve talked to Election Officials in those states and they say thats why the process could take several days there are thousands of ballots and just you know been pouring in over the past few weeks because of the pandemic and so officials there say its just going to take time to get through all of those ballots and to count them. Accurately and i should point out this is very normal in every election we see this happen where one state or another just takes a little longer perhaps a few days to finalize their election count. Alex its almost hard to remember, but the president just a few weeks out from a covid scare, hes been barnstorming what would you say was his strategy has week and the mad rush to election day.
