Breeze by any means a bit of an orange hue above berkeley here its not going to appear that way once the sunshine comes up, but there will be a definite yellow tinge to it like yesterday because of how smoky it is yet again today you notice how the entirety of the shoreline has that worst air quality as do our interior valleys. Thats because the fog thats pushing in has smoke imbedded and not just smoke from our california fires, but smoke all the way from oregon that was pushed out in the pacific. And now is slowly making its way in our direction with that very weak on shore flow. This deep deep red wasnt even on the map yesterday. This is the worst of those conditions and it is not going to be a good day to be stepping outside not this morning, not this afternoon ive been seeing a bunch of you still going on your jobs lately which i mean good for you, but maybe do a workout inside today as much as possible Half Moon Bay of visibility below a mile this morning and we will be looking at especially low visibility right along the coastline as daryn mentioned the golden gate really Poor Visibility through there. This morning and that haze that smoke, its all indebted in that fog this morning as it subtly slowly pushes down into our lower elevations, not enough winds to push it out of the region either so were going to be staying with the smoke all through the weekend. 50s for current temperatures, Half Moon Bay and say holy night down into the upper 40s this morning. So it is a cooler morning than even yesterday was and that will continue into the afternoon with daytime highs only in the 60s and 70s. No 80s your 4 zone forecast this friday. Back to you thanks a lot john 5 02 is the time and as james said today is 9 1119 years since the terror attacks and ceremonies are being held all across the country and we will be bringing you some of those ceremonies live as they happen. But ceremonies here in the bay area obviously being impacted. By the bad air quality is going to kron fours will tran in San Francisco with the details will. The area teams. All you need to know is if firefighters are telling you it is too dangerous for their ceremony which they usually happen right in front of me right behind me i should say at station 7 and San Francisco off of folsom this year theyre saying its too dangerous. So theyre actually going to move it inside and we will carry that for you live when it begins at 6. 45 in the morning. The air quality is terrible johns raible has been talking about it and thank goodness he beating it to everybody including me i will not be doing anything today but the air quality is purple as far as the caller over the bay area and that is signifies horrific air quality in firefighters, they also have access to this which is why they decided a couple of days ago that theyre not going to do the ceremony outside and we have video of that outside its a very moving tribute. They have their firefighters come out rest in their uniform, they stand shoulder to shoulder and in the past mayor london breed, she has shown a mayor ed lee. Hes shown up its its known as the ceremony for firefighters in San Francisco. They havent at every station but this is the one that they do it. This year theyre not going to do it theyre going to move it inside because the air quality is so horrible, not just for them, but for the civilians as well so theyre telling people if you dont have to be outside. Dont be outside and if you are trying to limit that as well as far as the ceremony today were not sure of mayor london breed will even show up to be inside. And james duryea because this is 2020. They said more than likely they wouldnt even have an outside this year because so many people in the past civilians, the public they show up to honor the firefighters who died on 9. 11 and the civilians but because of covid19 lets not forget about covid19 they said that please dont come down, theyre not letting anybody inside except one camera which they will use. Back to you all right, thanks a lot. Well air quality is terrible needs bay to has been and i guess is jobless and today the worst of it kron fours reyna harvey por thing has been struggling to breach she has allergies like im sure a lot of you do as well and all the smoke and theres just been exaggerating all of that i dont reyna. David its a better morning for me but not with the numbers on our air quality and one of the local parks and hope and aryan james, you dont see a lot of people all here today is this smoke. Its just dangerous to be breathing in, but were going to show you the air quality map right here across the ebay this east bay while his college that this is from a purple air dot com take a look at you can see just how bad the numbers are here we are air quality index nothing but over 300. We have some areas that are nearly at 400 overlooking here in hayward right now what this means is this means were seen hazardous conditions. The air today does not only affect sensitive groups like we talked about before people with respiratory problems people with asthma people with allergies. This air is dangerous for everyone if you are out here for longer than you need to be also lets go over on the map and take a look at areas of oakland and berkeley and richmond. You have some pockets in these areas where the air quality is almost at 400. So you got smoke, not only that you got particles in the air youve got all other things that have been burning from these fires all in the air i like john mentioned earlier you have a lot of that smoke. Thats now settling in to the east bay were showing images from yesterday smoky skies across the bay area in today to even thicker as i was driving along the 5. 80. We could not really see much of anything so if youre out today limit your exposure because if you stay out here for longer of and you need to be. He will more than likely probably be sick. The for now reporting here in hayward Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news all right, thanks a lot of rain well its also give you an idea of what its like in the south bay as well with the air quality there also in the red and purple range for the entirety of the Santa Clara Valley so. Like the advice has been given everybody else stay indoors if you can today, it is certainly hazardous. Air out there for you especially if you have respiratory issues. Youre going want to make sure you really limit any time you spend outside obviously wear that mask money for covid but also try to filter at least some of the larger particles of ash and smoke i know some of those smaller particles can go right through your mask and thats why you want to limit your exposure outside shes going to be a really bad day to be out there not just from breathing but also for your eyes to yeah so full not just for Northern California southern to i mean la has had the worst smog in 26 years and its all because. Of the fires raging all along the west coast, including in oregon. Were covering the ones in california at least 10 people are dead and several her in the butte county fire that was known as the bear fire, but now its called the north complex was known fire. Crews found 7 bodies. Yesterday and they had already found 3 victims on wednesday more than a dozen people are still missing. So the death toll could go up and so could the damage and destroyed a number of homes theyve so far counted about 2000 homes and other buildings destroyed. But the count is going to get better as they able to get in there which theyre too busy fighting the fire right now. The creek fire in Fresno County is 6 contained. This is the first containment progress at all that was reported since friday. The fire has grown to a 176,000 acres in this one has destroyed 360 homes and other structures, more than 1300 personnel are on the scene battling that fire. And heres a quick look at the updated containment numbers for our local bay area fires. As of last night as we went to bad the lnu complex fire stood at 95 contained at just more than 363,000 acres burned again well look for updated numbers around 6 7 oclock this morning when cal fire is able to give us that update, but again the latest that we know so far is that the scu complex fires in the east and south bay is now 98 contained so real close to getting to that 100 containment mark. The czu complex fires in san Mateo Santa Cruz counties now 85 contained. And lastly the woodward fire burning in marin county out of the Point Reyes National seashore is now 95 contained so were nearly there, keep your fingers crossed that perhaps maybe by the end of this coming weekend. They can get these fully surrounded its been more than 3 weeks now that the lnu lightning complex have been burning of the fire still affecting communities in napa sonoma. And solano counties well if theres one family that has really been hit hard. John phillips is one of many victims who lost their homes. But he is trying to focus on the positive. Marking all the electrical. The gas lines and water lines were they were. So when people come in they they know where they are when they do the cleanup is just a beautiful locations we love vacaville. We love the have a lot of friends here. Family is close by. So we we just really like it. If you like that. Thank you have that outlook while youre picking up the pieces of you know charred remains your home. And theres a classic car burned up. John says theyre committing to rebuilding no matter how long it takes. These salvaging what he can preparing for contractors to clear the debris and get started. I can do is rebuild right. I will take a quick break still much more news ahead here on the kron 4 morning news the Valais Police department is working to put an end to shootings in their city with a new initiative will have details on what theyre calling operation peace up well have that coming up ahead. Plus more people around the bay area are commuting again, well tell you how far is stepping up its service to better accommodate the influx in ridership and after the break. Details on the businesses that can finally reopen indoors in San Francisco starting on monday. And another look at our air quality conditions this morning because were actually seeing the worst of the week so far. Those deep deep red areas are where we are experiencing the worst air quality in the left at the coast north bay and east bay. Your forecast ahead. And im tracking your commute around the bay area this morning. Its foggy out there dense fog advisory for the bay bridge and the golden gate make sure you give yourself some extra time and leave early dont the United States Postal Service is here to deliver your packages. And the peace of mind of knowing that important things like your prescriptions, and ballots, are on their way. Every day, all across america, well keep delivering for you. 5. 14 right now and we are just. Hunkering down at home is what you should be doing get ready for a terrible day out there you can see walnut creek looks foggy and i dont know what to call fog anymore, you know its just im just going to everything smoke its all one big you know super thats floating around out there that were all walking through and thats why you want to stand up indoors as much possible because john was telling us today is. The worst day when it comes to air quality john thats right guys i mean just a couple of days ago when the skies were definitely the most striking. The air quality was actually the worst right above us yesterday, it started to sink down further and you probably notice late yesterday starting to smell that wildfire smell that campfire smell. This morning, even though you might not spell it for all areas. Air quality is at its worst at the coast. All the way inland and you can make out just how poor air quality is mixed in with that fog in San Francisco can hardly see any of the lights out there from our castro cam looking at San Francisco this morning. So this deep deep red wasnt even on the map yesterday, those lighter areas of red certainly were which indicate very poor conditions but that deep red this is the worst at the coast where fog is pushing in from the pacific. You think that fog might offer some refreshing relief that is actually not the case and heres why we obviously have had impacts wildfires in california that have pushed smoke down our direction but a lot of what were seeing from the pacific is actually smoke thats being pushed down our direction from wildfires in oregon. So those oregon fires which is also been historic for our neighbors to the north. That smoke has been pushed out into the pacific where its just been sitting and sinking the past couple of days. Now we have a weak onshore breeze into the bay area thats pushing that smoke or direction, so its a combo effect of our own smoke and smoke from our neighbors to the north as well. So these hazy foggy conditions lasting through the morning. Once we do see starting to push its way out and burn off youre still gonna notice hayes into the afternoon and not enough of a wind to be pushing it out any time soon so only gradual improvements over the next couple of days. Tomorrow is likely to be just a step better than today but still not going to be a good one as far as air quality goes by any means 60s and 70s will be our daytime highs today even cooler than yesterday was you are going to see some brightness trying to burn its way through smoke this afternoon after a foggy impact this morning but its not going to be enough to warm us up into the 80s were all across the board no matter how far inland you are staying unseasonably cool 60s and 70s for Livermore Pleasanton dublin hayward up to oakland concord in walnut creek, some of your cool stays and a really long time 72 degrees. Each similar to where we were at on wednesday when the skies were so dark vacaville and fairfield your warmer spots in the upper 70s. Well, santa rosa and barely at 70 degrees petaluma through center fell in the upper 60s. Now tomorrow will be a noticeably warmer one for inland areas as will be the start to next week. As i mentioned before we will see moderate increases in sunshine from day to day as air quality gradually gradually gets better from day to day. So there is something to look forward to but its going to take patients to get there in this forecast ahead. Thats a look at your forecast robin would take patients on the roads this morning absolutely especially driving through the fog. Dont know about you, but it makes me nervous, i dont like driving through fog out there john. And its dense in some spots like the bay bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge. Its been a problem this morning so we have some fog advisories in place we do not have one here for 92, its not as bad traveling between the east bay in the peninsula, but its busy we see the traffic filling and so were at 13 minutes from the east bay to the peninsula now, heres the bay bridge and we can see the fog there and earlier this morning, you can even make out the ad overcrossing we see it a little bit now, but its dance across the span 8 minutes into San Francisco, heres the richmond sandra fell we dont have any hot spots are big problems that you have to worry about some 7 minutes to the north bay and a foggy Golden Gate Bridge where the towers we cant even see them so headlights and wipers will be needed 19 minutes novato to San Francisco. Daria thank you robin is fighting team right now and some big news for businesses in San Francisco. They finally got the green light to open hair salons nail salons and gyms indoors. This coming monday kron fours gayle ong has the story. Its unbelievable fritz clay owns hair play salon in the city and has been closed since march constantly like people caring about yes other counties of all and so can make an and you know. You know listen to the is not San Francisco yet we were there when clay was getting ready to reopen in june only to have held orders reversed after a spike in covid19 cases hair salons are allowed to operate outdoors but not for clay salon he says hes ready to get back to work a lot more on my smock so now i have socks around city. A lot of a lot of hand mask mask mass thursday, the city released this statement detailing the additional reopening starting on monday september 14th allowing Indoor Personal Services with limited capacity that includes hair and nail salons gyms and fitness centers. It remains to be seen what limited capacity but any capacity at this point is going to be a victory. Dave character is a resentative of the San Francisco independent Fitness Studio coalition and co owns mx 3 fitness in the city which has been operating outdoors but challenging with unhealthy air quality due to wildfire smoke but kerik or says the coalition has been putting pressure on the city to reopen gyms the citys new announcement comes one day after our report that City Employees like sfpd have been able to work out indoors since july defying Health Orders this just demonstrates this city can listen they can hear that the cries coming from not just the Small Business owners they can hear the cries coming from residents of San Francisco. Who know that during a pandemic. Could really help him out. Other businesses that are allowed to reopen indoors with capacity barbershops massage services, tattoo piercing and hotels in San Francisco gayle ong kron 4 news. Well, heres a list of the Indoor Services that can reopen starting on monday as you heard in the story their hair salons barbershops nail salons gyms can also reopen indoors at limited capacity, and also in her Family Entertainment as well like many golf and go carts and the following week on september 21st indoor museums and in class learning from kindergarten through 6th grade can return again with limited capacity and as long as they have a safety plan in place and then by the end of september San Franciscos goal is to allow 25 capacity at indoor places of worship. Well take a break or 5. 21 just ahead. More bay area families are turning to food banks to get their next meal will tell you how local food banks are working to meet that demand. Plus we continue to monitor bad air quality across the bay area one look at the map. It tells you all you need to know red and purple show the worst conditions in the bay area and its all over the bay area today, the worst weve seen so far so stay inside if you can and heres an example of whats out there as we take a live look here at the bay bridge. That is certainly a little bit of fog but also a whole lot of smoke with it. Theyll definitely want to stay inside well be right back. More people are looking to try to help feed their families. According to the San Francisco marine food bank prior to the pandemic the food bank served about 32,000 households, a year. And now thats doubled since march to meet the demand the food bank has open 25 new pantries so now they have about 300 and they also have 25 urgency popup sites. Wherever we could find the so that was in school so it was just in the parking lot now were servings heard for 60,000 households. So weve seen tremendous increase in the number of folks who need Food Assistance were asking for Food Assistance. The San Francisco Marin Food Bank is always looking for help if youd like to help you want to volunteer were just going to donation. You can do either just go to kron 4 dot com. Well californias covid19 numbers are down significantly but state leaders are still working to stop the spread among vulnerable groups now as california continues to work and move through the states strict for tiered plan for reopening state leaders have added another benchmark the countys need to meet before moving forward. Health officials are putting their own attention for their attention on vulnerable and older adults, especially workers and communities of color and immigrants and people with disabilities to counties will need to prove to the state that its now or in the gap and improving positivity rates among all groups. Exposure to covid19 has exacerbated many of our Underlying Health inequities, especially among underserved and marginalized groups really have the intersecting of factors like race and economic inequality. Well Health Leaders say this will likely require more testing and Contact Tracing more accessible to those communities at risk. And smokey start to the weekend today, not the best one to be venturing outside fact, id advise you to do just the opposite stay inside as much as possible today. Daytime highs only in the 60s fr 5. 29 is the time and we are following the bad air all around the day out. This is dark purple which is back its every way worst. Yeah absolutely everywhere. In fact weve got to talk to john because john was saying today is the worst were certainly seeing that all around the bay. This morning and and robin its like youre driving through heavy fog which some of it is but lot of smoke and ash coming down to absolutely its just a bad mixture i was driving from oakland to San Francisco this morning and normally when im in the maze i can at least see the San Francisco skyline. Couldnt see much of it this morning. So we have dense fog advisories for the bay bridge and the golden gate well talk about that on the golden gate john ice at one point i swear it was 2 feet i could say while times yeah. Definitely good reminder to slow him down on roadways and also if you can maybe just avoid getting out on the road at all and stay home limit your exposure to the outdoors as this is the worst air quality weve seen yet and obviously weve had the historic run of spare the air alert days now so were no stranger to bad air days. So its saying something when were talking about the worst air quality today. You can see outside of berkeley right here there is an orange glow as the sun comes up youll notice that lesson last but there is the presence really smoky conditions all across the inland east bay, the east bay itself the peninsula and the notice how the coast some of our worst of air quality now even with fog pushing in you think all thats offering some relief but its actually just the opposite. We have a lot of smoke that sitting out the pacific to so any sort of fog thats pushing in this morning is pushing in along with that smoke that sitting out there ity, 0 this morning daria mentioned that river of visibility on the golden gate was really bad and you can see the coast does have a big impact from that fog even as we do make our way through the day and fog burns off we still are going to keep that smoke around so its going to look really hazy well into the afternoon and not enough wind to be pushing it out today so were going to see more impact from smoke likely tomorrow through sunday as well starting to get better and better and it does look like monday, you should have some noticeable improvements. This weekend in general. Despite the cool and overall comfortable temperatures that were about to see is not the weekend to be planning a whole lot outdoor activities. Todays daytime highs only 60s and 70s. We love this if it wasnt for the smoky conditions. More on your forecast is to come robin. All right, thank you john now were checking in on the traffic its quite busy out traveling across the bay area bridges, but its not bad so im just noticing that it continues to pick up as we head through the hour now we have more folks rolling into San Francisco. But so far everybody is behaving so no big problems here its just the fog is so dense thats going to be an issue for you you need to be extra cautious when making your way across the bay bridge and the golden gate this morning because thats where we have those dense fog advisories, no problems to the richmond sandra fell bridge. The heavy traffic is coming later on in the morning commute, so nows your chance to beat the rush 7 minutes to the north bay 92 here crowded heavier traffic now leaving hayward word 12 minutes to the peninsula. And the drive times are okay, we have a Castro Valley to oakland 13 minutes, no problems for the nimitz and no problems for 2. 80 leaving the south bay james started. Thanks a lot robin lets continue our Team Coverage of the big story were down to the north bay first this time to take a look at the air at kron 4 Sarah Stinson there in marine county and sarah rob was talking about the chp issuing a dense fog advisories but with the smoke fog makes a really should be a dense smog advisory. Whats it like out there. Oh its terrible driving as daria said on the Golden Gate Bridge was pretty hairy had to be extra careful drive extra slow is next to a huge semi trucks i was a little nervous on there. Its just disgusting outside smoky and it is definitely foggy out here. I have my mask on its really no joke i hope people spender estimate how unhealthy this air is to breed and let me just show you 4 scale take a look at the map were talking about the map of the world you can see on the right side on their even india is better than us and then you look over to the left or you can see the west coast of United States right where we are and we have the worst air quality in the entire world that really puts it into perspective. I mean worse than some of the places that are notoriously bad for air quality like china. So it is definitely something to be aware of its alarming and i think a lot of people feel like well i can really smell the smoke all just head outside for a bike ride or run i saw so many people in marin county yesterday doing their Favorite Outdoor recreation activities, but today is not the day. This is a day of staying inside dont forget, were still in the pandemic so staying home is something we should be doing as much as possible anyways so just up together and stay indoors thats what i did all day yesterday and it wasnt fun. I want to be outside i want to go for a walk but it was so bad, i mean i knew i could feel in my lungs just walking my dog for about 10 minutes so limit your exposure take care of yourself and i know its hard to get your hands on one of these mass, the ones with the filters in but if you can that is the best way to go for you to be outdoors for now live in sandra fell Sarah Stinson kron 4 news in all right, thank you very much sara and still in the car can get in the north and east bay, some restaurants in alameda. Decided they were going to have people even outside because the air quality was so bad. For example, the star restaurant. They were open, but they had shut down the patio. They were still doing try to fill orders and doing takeout. Some people still wanted to eat outdoors. Air quality and we are more concerned about our customers having a healthy and. That are eating experience though is unsafe for our customers as well as our as our employees. I can tell that its bad. Its obvious that is bad. But im glad that its breaking away a little hopefully theyll contain those fires. So outdoor businesses have to figure out if they want to keep their patios opener not star the star restaurant, theyre not sure yet well have to see that given todays air quality its probably going to be closed again. Bart is increasing Weekday Service for the First Time Since the pandemic hit starting monday. Bart trains on most lines will run every 15 minutes during the peak hours because the ridership levels are starting to come back before the pandemic bart average about 400,000 commuters a day. Now theyre seeing about 45,000 a day. 400,045 1000 thats crazy. But it is taking up and so they are going to be a meeting the demand. Were running were safe. We have good air flow. We have mask requirements we have hand sanitizers at every single but right now our focus is getting writers to feel comfortable riding the trains. So thats what shes saying right its a female meantime transportation Officials Say that also people have been hit the roads. More and more we saw a big rise in traffic over the summer big rise. I mean it was a rise in haha you look at all the shots and go and nothing like it used to be. Something yeah, still ahead here on the kron 4 morning news. Were going to be talking more about the weekend ahead as were getting ready to play the niners are get ready to play on sunday. Well talk about that match up with the Arizona Cardinals so more on that coming up in a moment, well the air be ok debris thats the question that is the big question james because air quality today certainly is not cooperating for any outdoor plans. Even though temperatures are going to be really we will see improvements eventually though, and ill get to that your forecasts. And im tracking your commute around the bay area this morning, its picking up out there, but its still not bad. We have lots of fog thats a bigger issue heading into San Francisco, be aware of that dense fog advisory, its a little hard to see across the span of a complete ball is back in the niners play on sunday and local bars are ready to welcome back fans in walnut creek. The greenery sports bar and grill is serving customers outside and thats whats allowed Contra Costa County right now. And but with the start of the football season, that means is if its outside when they going to do to show you the game you see all the tvs or have always been inside that could have to change that. Sports coming up were trying to figure out whats next. Do we try to do tvs outside is it even worth it. You know should we just keep going or should we stop should. We did take out only these are questions on all of our minds i believe. Here is the question is like so do you want to go somewhere and watch the game you just go watching from home. The big game was on tv last night, the first nfl game was canceled chiefs and Houston Texans and probably got great ratings. But there werent very many fans in the stands chiefs only a cheese and jags the only 2 teams allowing fans and then there are about 16,000 fans there look pretty sparse and kind of weird. The chiefs beat the texans 34 to 20. How about the niners as i said they play on sunday hosting the Arizona Cardinals at levis theyre really monitoring air quality. This is the last time the 2 teams played in Santa Clara County its going to look obviously way different because there are no fans. The niners are the favorites because everybody says they have the better offense and defense. Home field advantage is always good but again with no fans we dont know really what that means that we fake crowd noise just like you see any other sports kickoff is one 25 sunday. All right now to bury a baseball the as continue their roll winning 4 games now out of the last 5 in their series against the astros at the coliseum in game 5 yesterday matt olson drilled this 2 run homer to right field look at that ball go. The play gave the as the lead this was in the 6th inning again in the 9th. The astros try to make a comeback. They have this that went off in the center field. But ramon is there to make a spectacular catch look at that with the slide and thats how the game ended as beating the astros 3 to one. They now have a commanding 6 and a half game lead. In the American League west division, so how about that. Well about the giants there on the road in san diego taking on the pod raise but the giants 5 game win streak was in fact broken yesterday, Congress Took an early lead may never really looked back ended up beating the giants 6 to one game to the series is tonight at 6. 10. All right as we head to break we continue to monitor the bad air quality across the bay area and by bad, we mean horrible and by bay area we need all of it today, the worst day for air quality is a lot of the smoke from our local fires now settling all around the bay and smoke from our fires to the north in oregon also blowing our direction to stay inside well have more of and were back time now 5. 46 live pictures from washington. These are leaders are recognizing a moment of silence. The exact time the first plane struck the north tower of trade Center Aircraft lets listen and then into the towers of the World Trade Center in new york city. Outside washington d c in the field in southwestern pennsylvania. The 08 46am on 9 11 2020. Please join us as we observe the national day of service and remembrance. In a campus wide moment of silence. This concludes our moment of silence. Ladies and gentlemen. Is he the conclusion of the moment of silence ceremony there at the white house. And we will have ceremonies throughout the country as well in pennsylvania at the pentagon. And lets not forget here locally as well as united flight 93 was also bound for San Francisco when it crashed in shanksville pennsylvania. We know kron fours will tran is standing by at a firehouse in the city where theyll honor many of the First Responders who rushed in to those collapsing towers to help save as many people as they could and well bring you that live shot. Once it gets underway again little bit later on this morning. 19 years ago. And i always remember exactly how many years as i was sitting on the couch Breast Feeding my baby. Hes 19 now i remain i was as yeah, so were going to continue to follow that and then the big news in california is the wildfires and the air quality which is going to be worse today than any day weve seen so far i believe john what is it looking like here right now just as yeah, definitely not a good morning to be outside all guys hard to believe that just a couple of days ago with that very orange glow. Were looking air quality worse today than we were that in fact yesterday we continually saw conditions worsening through the course of your thursday and that sets us up for where were at this friday morning. Weve got foggy conditions weve got very smoky conditions to your look from their walnut creek camera here shows you just how hazy those skies are out there in the east bay we didnt see any of the deep red on the map that we have this morning across the bay yesterday as air quality is worse than smoke has settled right into the bay area that was sitting right above us in addition to that smoke thats been sitting out in the pacific has now been pushed inland as well the shirt, coastal areas are also looking at a very heavy dose of wildfire smoke so limit outdoor exposure today. If you have respiratory conditions if you dont it doesnt matter you definitely dont want to be spending too much time outside as we do make our way through this day one of the reasons we are seeing so much smoke settling into the bay area as we are just looking at that wildfire smoke from our california fires but oregon fires that have also been historic have been sending smoke out of the pacific that is now settled down and drifting its way our direction. I plenty more information about what to expect for the rest of the weekend on into next week to all still to come over to you james all right, thank you very much john. Well in the north bay, the vallejo Police Department has launched a new initiative now to stop shootings in their city theyre calling it operation peace. Last week the city recorded its 21st murder of 2020 16 of those deaths. Were africanamerican police chief Shawny Williams is confident that through partnerships including with local and double acp chapters. The department can address the citys issues with 21st century policing. Let me when we look at gun violence in our city the last. This last august we had up to 209 shootings in our city. Weve had 21 murders. Thats a 300 increase from last year one of the things that were doing as a Police Department is improving our processes. The organizational structure or training and were going continue to do that. Well despite these new developments the Valais Police Officers Association argues that crimes can be deterred by having more police on the streets they say vpn needs a 180 officers and right now the city has a little more than half what they feel is necessary without an increase in officers the peel ways warning that delay was on pace to have its worst year for murders since 1994. Well take a break. Coming up the next hour we are monitoring the poor air quality that were seeing from all the smoke in the surrounding fires, filtering down to sea level here in the map shows just how bad it is were talking extremely hazardous air conditions for just about every corner of the bay area today, the worst of all that weve seen so far this week. Well have Team Coverage coming up in a moment.
