Well that high fire danger resulted in rapid spread of fires across Northern California. Now were left with the smoke from those Northern California wildfires that yesterday was sitting high up above as i mentioned that we saw when the light passed through it it took away all the blues and the color spectrum youre elected just the orange and red as it descended to the ground. Now the gray that was once above us has sunk lower and lower down so what youre saying is just more of the smoke and the fog than anything else rather than the effects on the color above us as far as we go in the big picture. Well start with the creek fire thats burning in a fresno county. Its now close to 167,000 acres in size containment is still 0 this morning with fire officials saying it has destroyed 360 structures so far. Now to the latest on the bear fire 3 people are dead in that one several others hurt to this is the one burning up in butte county. After the wildfire there quickly spread now the bear fire by itself is bad enough, but its part of a larger complex of fires called the north complex spark back on august 17th, so far in total that fire has burned more than 250,000 acres with a number of homes near the berry creek area completely destroyed. Thankfully, wednesdays night hot spots are no longer threatening many a portions of just north of the lake so thats at least some good news as for the fires closer to home. Heres an update on their containment will begin with the lnu lightning complex fire up in the north bay, currently 93 contained so great progress on that front. You know counterintuitive because yesterday that deer looked a lot worse, but it was yesterday, it was much higher and law did nothing but a today settling down unfortunately were breathing well. Well of course wildfires across the rest of the state have definitely not calm down, especially up in Northern California where over the past few days a strong northerly wind pushed all that smoke into the bay area. Well youve been out there and the scene behind you looks pretty bad. The smoke out here is so thick you guys i know you guys have been seeing it in the bay area and this is a large part of where its coming from in fact the sun has been up for several hours but we cant even see the sign thats how thick the smoke is here. Whats interesting about this fire is that its been burning in the north complex fire has been burning since august 17th during that Lightning Storm that sparked so many fires across the state and over the course of the past several weeks, its grown to more than 252,000 acres with just 24 containment. The bear fire which she were just talking about is the deadliest most destructive fire in this north complex and now that these fires have burned close together. Firefighters are sort of looking at the incident as a whole and they were able to successfully whole containment lines on the east side of the fire yesterday but the fire behavior was really active on the west side and there were some spot fires up to the north. But crews were able to catch those before they got out of hand. Now theyre just trying to keep these fires in their current and stop them from spreading even more so we know mandatory evacuations are in effect both in butte county. And you by county. We know many people thousands of people have been forced out of their homes and fortunately there will be quite a few people that will not have homes to return to but as weve been out here this morning. Its honestly been hard to get an idea of the scope of the destruction because the smoke is just so thick, you can see behind me we cant even see past the tree line just behind us so its hard to see off the roadways if house has been destroyed if its just cause what was even on a property and that gives you an idea of the conditions that firefighters are dealing with as they try to battle these flames even with our n 95 masks on its pretty much unbearable to be outside right now our eyes are stinging the smoke is just so thick and it just gives you a deeper appreciation for what firefighters are going through right now yeah courting live olivia de janeiro back to you olivia can you tell us a little bit more i understand it was a child among the 3 dead. Its a product of such devastation elsewhere in the state. You can see from a timber on here it is still smoky, although not looking at the brilliant orange and reds of yesterday. Air quality is still very much so less than ideal with very port support conditions across the bay now a lot of youre stepping outside going it actually smells really fresh. Well there is ash falling from the sky as well as fine particulates making its way down slowly from that smoky layer which is sitting right above us and that could actually be especially damaging more so than smoggy conditions to your health so do not forget your Face Covering in your mass today. So we have both the north complex and then of course the august complex burning directly to our north and a strong north wind that made its way through earlier this week. Thats what resulted in the rapid spread of these fires and that smoke plume making its way directly to the south and eventually landing right here in the bay area, were still in the midst of these hazy conditions now that winds have calmed down its just going to sit right on top of us. Yesterday smoke was far enough above us that as light passed through it any sort of blue wave links were scattered and all that made it through was the red and orange yesterday now were in the midst of this hazy layers that continues to sink down so even though you do have a yellowish glow to it its definitely not the neon orange that was yesterday more of just a slight hint of yellow or orange in the midst of that gray High Pressure is Building Back in now and with just a week week on shore flow, were only going to see the Slightest Movement of air really all thats going to be that were seeing here is smoke settling slowly into the bay over the next few days so air quality is going to be an issue today tomorrow and through much of the weekend ahead.
