Were learning the cdc recently transferred an infected patient to a San Mateo County hospital for treatment. It is not clear where that person came from. Were also tracking the coronavirus case involving an infected Solano County woman as a number of cases pops, a live look at Uc Davis Medical Center in sacramento where she remained hospitalized this morning. Overnight in several nations including the United Kingdom and france and iran, and Health Experts are retracing the womans steps. Shes not traveled to china nor in contact with anyone who was there. As of this morning there are now 83,000 cases of the virus worldwide. 2,800 people have died. Most are in china but the number of deaths elsewhere is rising. And there are now 60 confirmed cases in the United States. We have Live Team Coverage this morning including a breakdown on signs as symptoms continue. First, lets go to today in the bay sarah dallof with the latest. She has a closer look at the Solano County case now Getting National attention, sarah. Reporter that is correct marcus and laura. You just mentioned the impact of the unique case there in the bay area. Here in washington, the white House Keeping a close eye on how that unfolds. Meanwhile the Trump Administration is striking back at criticism that it acted too slowly or isnt doing enough to stop the spread of the mysterious and deadly illness. The president insisting that his response has been, quote, incredible. As Congress Continues to work to fund that emergency package to prepare and speed along a vaccine, that case out of Solano County is getting attention from california lawmakers as the woman wasnt tested for several days as she didnt meet federal requirements. I want to know why it is taking so long to test folks. I would hike to know what the experts believe they need. Make sure we fund that. Reporter Officials Say impossible vaccine is at minimum a year away and lawmakers want to make sure when it is released it is affordable to all americans. Possibly dipping into the emergency funding theyre working on right now to make it so. One is a 35yearold man in mexico city who just returned from italy which we know has its own cases of infection. His wife and children and sister are under quarantine. The other case sinaloa and five of the persons family members also quarantined there. Well follow those developments through the morning as we get more information out of mexico. Now as more cases are reported, a lot of us are still asking what is it anyarng ago. That was also a coronavirus. But Novel Coronavirus known as covid 19 is spread when a sick person coughs or sneezes but experts say they cannot rule out that it is spread through fecal contamination like sars. When do you see a doctor . If you have sore throat, cough and fever and you traveled to the coronavirus hot spots or been in contact with someone who has, see your doctor. But dont expect to get tested on the spot like with strep or the flu because there are only a few labs doing that testing. Richmond has one of the 16 labs processing tests for all of california. Positive tests have to be confirmed by the cdc and that is part of the lag team people are complaining about. The cdc said wash your hands, really scrub themnd water for 20 seconds, sing happy birthday two times if you need a reminder and when you cant do that use Hand Sanitizer people. Only effective in keeping a sick person from spreading their germs through coughs or sneezes. So one of the questions on facebook, does a hospital have to tell you that theyre treating a coronavirus patient and Infectious Disease ucsf told mpr that they dont notify the entire staff that they have someone coming in. So if they dont notify the staff and hippa provide. I think the answer is no. And if people have the symptoms which they need to get checked out. Where are they walking into to get checked . Well the idea is call ahead. And then they could receive you through the back door. A pediatrician has a different door for sick kids and they keep the newborns on one side. He was trying to cross lone tree way behind me not far from deer valley high in antioch when he was hit and killed by this white sports car. We believe that car is a corvette. This happened a little bit before 7 00 last night. Which means it was dark out. Or close to dark out. Visibility wasnt good. And unfortunately this boy was not using a crosswalk according to police when he tried to cross the six lanes of traffic. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and the driver is cooperating with the investigation and police do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash. And it is the driest february weve had since 1864. Just to show you how unusual this is. Well talk about what is ahead in the forecast and, mike, youre seeing changes now in the east bay. I am. Were looking over here toward one of the more obvious ones, the backup with the fast track at the bay bridge. It is only fast track but that does indicate the metering lights are on and chp confirmed that just after 6 00. So here is the 880 overcrossing, with a crash on the approach just at the tail end just before it comes into the camera view and you may have a couple of larger vehicles blocking your slow lane on that approach as well. So well are track that but the maze is fine just toward the backup at the bay bridge which is forming. Two crashes in hayward. One has cleared, the one at 92 has not. So that may be an issue as far as out of hayward and in tor union city toward san jose. Well continue to track that one crash still left over in hayward. The south bay smooth drive. We can see that there will be some more clouds as we go into the morning and into the afternoon. Our temperatures in the mid50s to start. 65 at 10 00 and then were back into the mid70s by 1 00 today. All of this above normal. And yesterday san jose set a new record of 79. But today were up to 77. Just a couple of degrees lower. But still feeling very springlike across the bay area. North bay 74 in clear lake and santa rosa. And in San Francisco reaching 67 degrees. So here is what is going on. Were still seeing a lot of storms wel in from the south. Now that is what were seeing right now. Coming up from southern california, but still no rain with it. It is just bringing in some upper level moisture. And so as we go into the next couple of days, were looking at High Pressure moving away and that will allow for this low to dip in and bring some rain and sierra snow. But that rain skips the bay area once again and then next week we see High Pressure building as our temperatures go right back up. And then the rain stays to the north. It is nice to see even just a little bit of snow for the sierra. Were looking at about four to six inches of snow. Anywhere where from South Lake Tahoe to kirkland and tomorrow looking at winds at about 30 miles per hour, even higher in half moon bay. Coastal areas and hills will have the highest gusts. And the winds will peak on sunday as our temperatures dip to the lowest weve seen in quite a while. 59 for a high. In the inland areas. And then 10 degrees warmer on monday and even warmer going into tuesday. So the little taste of winter really only last one good day. Mike, youre checking out of the east bay buildup. But we want to give you a live look at uc davis in sacramento where doctors are treating a Solano County woman in a case making news everywhere because Health Experts dont know how she became ill. So those emails are going out but this community is concerned because as you said the woman who was infected by the coronavirus, it is still unknown how she got it. The School District in fairfield is making sure every desk and classroom is wiped down and disinfected. All in the hopes of limited of the spread of the coronavirus. Listen to this voice from the district to parents. Coronavirus is causing concern for many of our parents. Yeah. Very. Because we live close to the air force. It is like 15 minutes away from here. Reporter a district spokesperson said there is no known direct connection that links the Solano County coronavirus patient with any of the schools. But the north Bay Health Care Group Confirms that the coronavirus patient was lying in a hospital bed in vacaville for three days before anyone knew she was infected with the coronavirus virus. A hospital spokesperson said the patient may have exposed dozens of hospital staffers, those with the highest risk of exposure are staying at home and monitoring themselves for any coronavirus symptoms. And basically the emails from the School District, saying if students have any symptoms, stay at home and contact your doctor if youre concerned this could be tied to the virus. So when do you see a doctor . If you have a cold and flu symptom and youve traveled to the coronavirus hot spot or been in contact with someone who has, it might be time to see a doctor. There is no rapid test like we get when we have strep or the flu. Right there in the doctors office. This richmond lab is one of 16 labs processing tests for the virus for anyone in california showing symptoms. Positive tests have to be confirmed by the cdc. So here is where we stand on breakthroughs. People asking how far away is the vaccine, there is no vaccine at it this point. Though the National Institute of Infectious Diseases may begin on a vaccine within weeks but that is not available for at least another year. In nebraska a group of coronavirus patients are participated in a Clinical Trial for an antiviral drug originally developed to treat ebola and other coronaviruses. The current antivirals you would get if you have the flu arent working. The National Institute of health and the university of texas at austin identified the spike on that coronavirus which gives it the name that used to enter the cells and that is a forward step in vaccine creation. Another one of our facebook of the cases are mild, a strong immune system is your best defense. Wash your hands, take your vitamins and get sleep and drink water. That is interesting to see. I heard a lot of gyms are concerned because they could be germy places. Everything is getting wiped down. There is another crash blocking one lane south 880 at 92, one of the three crashes in the area but the Speed Sensors keep improving so ill leave it at that. The rest of the bay looking great for a friday but the metering lights are on the at the bay bridge so keep that in mind. But no problems for the maze. That is good. You said the magic word there. Friday. And after this warm week it will be refreshing to have cooler air and have some more normal temperatures. Here is a look at our saturday forecast. A breezy wind expected. Inland temperatures in the low 60s. Up to 64 for the bay and the coast at 57. More clouds on sunday. And it continues to cool o our e have a taste of winter. And weve been doing this count up looking at how many days since it has been since weve had rain in San Francisco. Tomorrow is the last day of the month and so most likely we will not measure a drop of rain. And this is the tenth longest dry spell weve ever had and the driest february on record since 1864 when we also measured zero in San Francisco in terms of rain for the month. As we look at our temperatures today, we know it is been very warm. In fact, yesterday, we set some records in the south bay. So werek looking at some upper 70s in the south bay and then also some changes ahead. Still the storm track to the north but were seeing some clouds rolling up from southern california. And it is a dry area of low pressure as High Pressure moves away. That is what kept us dry and warm. Going into the weekend some changes as this low drops in. But notice not a whole lot of rain here but mainly across the sierra. Some of the upper elevations will have rain and snow and then well have some gusty winds that will start to pick up tomorrow evening and continue through sunday. So heads up not only will it be cooler, but it will be windy and that is going to go make it feel a lot colder. Our temperatures will only reach into the upper 50s and low 60s. And those winds gusting up to 30 to 35 miles per hour. Were looking at a big rebound in temperatures after a cool weekend, next week were back in the mid70s by tuesday.
