Two days ago deputies forced outer a group of homeless mothers who broke into a vacant home. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to do what theyve done. These are the men accused of the crime. One of the men met the girl in capitola, allegedly gave her drugs, called his friends, and they took her to a hotel in san jos jos jose, where police say she was assaulted. Her friends figured out her location from snapchat and called 911. Police arrived and rescued the girl from a San Jose Hotel room. A long and torturous ordeal is finally over. The Winchester Ranch Mobile Home Park was scheduled to close to make room for new housing but a unique deal rescued the mobile homeowners. Long time friends and neighbors mary jo and mary are laughing at pictures of mary jo moving into the Winchester Ranch Mobile Home Park some 40 years ago. For the past six years shes been worried about losing her home, a victim of a proposed housing project, until the city helped broker a deal that will allow the development but now includes a plan to pay the people for their mobile homes. Then a condo complex will be built in which they can move into twobedroom units at the same rent and live there for the rest of their lives. The closures will begin next month. We should note stores in san jose, gilroy, and capitola will remain open. The retailer has struggled with sales for years, facing stiff competition from wayfair and amazon. Here is something we rarely see, five mountain lions together. This is Surveillance Video from a home east of sacramento. This is unusual because mountain lions are solitary animals and rarely travel in a pack. Now, one of the cougars is bigger than the other. So scientists believe its a the mother lion. The others are likely her cubs but not from the same litter. Mothers often chase off their cubs after a year. This restaurant here keeps sandbags outside. I spoke with the folks at the business next door and they tell me that some water actually crept inside this morning. And around the corner, one homeowner said the creek near his home by a culvert spills over onto the street and into his yard and up to the driveway if it rains hard like it did this morning. The homeowner shared video from when it was pouring, and neighbors think its getting worse. He thinks the county needs to do more than theyve done to address the situation and perhaps widen that culvert heavy says the situation as is isnt working. Theres nowhere for that water to go. Its not wide enough. Theres not appropriate drainage. Weve been trying to work with the county. Theyre aware of it. But theres nowhere for the water to go. When it rains and it rains hard, it happens fast. Reporter we did reach out to county public works this afternoon. They sent us a statement saying in part theyre aware of the flooding concerns at reed creek in homestead develvalley. They say unfortunately many of the areas are located on homeowners private property. They say, we do strife to maximize public benefit. A deadly accident in pacifica also kept a store owner on edge. She had to use the back road to get to her store today. The downpour in San Francisco at 1 00 today also brought hail. If you forgot your umbrella, you were drenched. Fortunately sandbags helped the normal floodprone areas in west portal. The city says project designs are under way to fix those problems. Its projected to start in 2021, thats going to take two years. Fulsome is starting in 2020 and will be completed in 2021. You can see the main branch of the storm system is already in central and southern california. This is just some instability left behind the storm system. On average, about a half to one inch of rainfall hit us this morning. Were running at defendants about two to four inches behind, plenty of time to catch up. But it really underscores the point here that january has been slow to start. We began the year really close to average for a lot of places. In the last couple of places its helped sink these averages. So we definitely needed that storm system today. A look at stormranger, you can see we have pockets of rain over the east bay and also the peninsula. A closer look, you can see over San Francisco some heavier rain right now will be on the move to oakland by 7 25, orinda at 7 40. To the south, rain approaching the coastline towards half moon bay. Likely it will make it over to belmont by 7 42 tonight. In case you didnt hear, we had snow down as low as 25 feet across mt. Hamilton, mt. Umunhum. And even mt. Diablo. When you wake up tomorrow morning, youll definitely be able to see more of this remaining. And then theres your snowy view over the sierra, interstate 80, and also highway 50. As we push into 11 30 tonight, you can see some spotty areas of rain left. I think once we hit tomorrow morning were done with the rain for us. But the thing i want you to be on the watch for here is some isolated areas of some dense ground fog. Maybe there for Contra Costa County and right through the north bay. On top of some patchy fog. You had to have had your jacket today, right . It was chilly. Tomorrow morning you definitely need it. Also the layers. Look at these numbers, down to 38 for the south bay peninsula. 39, tri valley, more 30s for the east bay with an average of 37 degrees as well. San francisco, 40. And the north bay down close to the freezing mark at 35. Now, as we move through the day tomorrow, well struggle to warm up. All of our temperatures really the same. Well go through these pretty fast. San jose at 52. Walnut creek, 54. Redwood city 54 as well. San francisco, 53 at the embarcadero. North bay, napa at 54.
