We think theres a recess in this hearing right now, the government is asking for 10 million forem manafort, 5 milli for gates, they are still trying to figure out what the net worth is but the prosecutors say they have a lot of money and have means and have a lot of people they know overseas and they are a flight risk and should be detained at home. The judge is taking that under advise. And we expect to hear from the judge later on what the circumstances of their release will be. But the charges against them basically say they earn millions in fees in consulting for politicians in ukraine to lobby for that government in the u. S. And did it for ten years, failed to register as foreign agents and failed to report all of that millions of dollars in income. What they are accused of is not related in any way of their capacity with the Trump Campaign but there was separately as you know George Papadopoulos, who was a i guess an unpaid policy adviser to the Trump Campaign. We learn that he pled guilty to the fbi regarding his contact with the russian individual ties to the kremlin who had dirt, opposition dirt. Can you tell us where that stands and how that might relate for specifically to the campaign. This one was a well kept secret. He was arrested in july and late july in Dulles Airport when he was arriving in the country and been questioned repeatedly about the fbi. Since then they say hes been cooperative. He pleaded guilty in a secret Court Hearing on october 5th and it looks like the government in his case, only charged him with one count of lying to the fbi and it looks like they are recommending that he could perhaps be released on probation without having to serve any jail time. Hell be sentenced later but basically the importance of that case as you note, someone who was involved in the Trump Campaign in contact with people who claimed that they were representing the russian government and could have dirt on Hillary Clinton including emails and according to the court documents, he said he was told that before it was even publicly known that the russians had hacked into the dnc email servers. Lets go . Sat the white house,no carrierringr0 Paul Manafort joined in 2016 intending to wrangle delegates and promoted a couple of months later and stayed on the campaign through the summer before he was let go. Gates stayed on even longer after manafort left. He was his right hand man in a lot of these situations and l liaison to the rnc and worked for the outside pro trump super pac. America first as well. You look at George Papadopoulos, Huckabee Sanders says p papadopoulos was an unpaid volunteer, didnt have much to do with the campaign. He was in a National Security Advisory Board meeting that was tweeted out and put on instagram by donald trump. You can see him sitting in the room with Jeff Sessions leading this National Security Advisory Board and you see President Trump at the head of the table too. Sanders says the president does not remember the circumstances of that meeting and said that was the one and only time that Advisory Board had actually met. In this plea agreement in the documents here related to papadopoulos, there is an exchange in which an unnamed Campaign Supervisor encourages papadopoulos to take a trip on his own with a different advisetory meet with these russian officials. The press secretary correctly noted when he tried to set up a meeting with donald trump and russian linked people, he was rebuffed by high ranking officials in the campaign. Bottom line, this is the first instance here in which we are seeing the special counsel probe touching in some way Donald Trumps 2016 campaign. Peter alexander is still outside the u. S. District courthouse in washington where manafort and gates are still apparently inside going through paperwork. What happens now in all of this, peter . Well, as we understand it, there will be another hearing a status hearing as described later this week on thursday. Still unclear whether gates or manafort will need to attend. Were told that its likely they will come out before cameras at the end of this hearing where its expected the attorney for Paul Manafort will make a statement.
