Fires now multiplying in sonoma and napa counties the relief residents hoping for not enough as winds pick up overnight. Thank you for joining us, im dion lim. Im eric thomas. Two new fires burning not far from the glass fire. You can see them here on this live alert wildfire camera. On the left side of the screen and to the east of highway 128 is the glass fire. On the right, you newly named fire. On the far right is the shady fire. Both west of highway 128. And this is the way it looks on a map. These new fires already forced evacuations in sonoma county. The glass fire already forced lot of evacuations today. We do have crews fanned out across the north bay but as winds could pick up overnight, lets begin now with abc 7 meteorologist drew tuma. Drew. Yeah, we are seeing those winds pick up as we speak, especially in the north bay hills right now. So lets take a look at our map. Mt. St. Helena. Gusting to 34 Miles Per Hour. And these winds will remain rather gusty over the next seven hours as a redflag warning continues. So i want to hone in very closely on the north bay and show you those frequent wind gusts early in the morning. We are still seeing frequent wind gusts well over 30 Miles Per Hour. We advance the clock. 5 00 a. M. , those dry off shore winds do continue out of the northnortheast. Those gusts, again, over 30, 35 Miles Per Hour. The winds will begin to calm down late in the morning, into the early afternoon. But there is about a sevenhour window we are watching very closely from now until 6 00 a. M. For the strong, gusty winds in the north bay. Here is the red flag warning. Still in effect for the north bay. Until 9 00 p. M. Tomorrow. We will take another close look, hour by hour, at those wind, guys, in a few minutes. Sounds good. Drew, thanks. Jr stone joining us live now near calistoga. Jr, you ever been talking with v evacuees all day. What is the feeling up there where you are . That wind is kicking in as i speak right now. Strong winds out here in calistoga. I can tell you, a little while ago, we tried to get to santa rosa from st. Helena. But were unsuccessful due to a tree being down and that tree was down because of the flames shooting up in the air. It was an unsafe situation so we had to turn around. I want to step out of the way because you can look off in the distance here in calistoga right off of highway 128 and you can see all those flames in the distance. Its hard to say what is burning over there but it appeared as though a structure was burning, at one point. Its been like this in calistoga for mauch of the evening. Its also been like this in st. Helena. Flames shooting into the air sunday evening east of highway 29 in st. Helena looking towards the deer park area. A sight that, at one point, could be seen for miles by those who live nearby. When i first saw, i was kind of scared because i didnt i dont want to evacuate. In fact, these flames arent just on the east side of highway 29. The reddish, orange glow can now be seen on the west side of the highway, too. Just north of the Culinary Institute of america at gray stone. When i came out, i just about fell sideways. I could not believe the magnitude of the fire and how quickly it had grown. Reporter pams neighborhood was evacuated. She initially stayed but quickly changed her mind. She saw flames dangerously close. Outofcontrol fire. Like, this is insane how fast a fire grows. And i i cooperauldnt believ eyes because i had just been out there and looked fine. Reporter hoping for the best. Sadly, pam fears the worst when it comes to the home she left. I have a feeling that all of our homes are burnt to the ground, now. I didnt have a chance to really think about what i wanted to save or bring. You know, i didnt really believe that we were going to lose our home. Thats the reality. And so, i only brought the bare essentials. And back out here, live, in calistoga. You are looking, live, at some of those flames. And within the last ten minutes, we hav seen fire trucks go back into this area. We have also seen flashlights, at times, down there. So we do know it appears there are some homeowners back there but certainly a very concerning situation with these strong winds and dry winds, at that. But again, we are keeping a close eye on this. And grabbing my mic here as we zoom back out because of the high winds, its pushing my jacket every which way. But certainly, well be keeping an eye on the situation here in calistoga. I will throw it back to you two in the studio. Thank you very much. In st. Helena, firefighters are working to keep flames from gatigate getting any closer to the deer park area. Crews stay back to wet the roof and make lastminute arrangements. They were replacing scrubbers, air scrubbers, throughout the hospital to keep our air safe. Reporter this hospital is not only a source of aid for the Deer Park Community but today it became a source of reverence of the aggressive blaze. Its a scary thought. I grew up here. Never seen the hospital evacuated until about a month ago. Reporter a mile from the honest, a. J. Showed us around his familys property. Hes lived here his entire life and today he decided to stay back to protect it. Were getting everything watered down. We have our pool here that were actually set up to draft out of just in case the water gets shut off, for any reason. So we have about 13,000 gallons here. Reporter with every passing hour, flames raged along deer park road. Just to give you some perspective as to how fast these flames are moving, this is how this ridge looked like an hour ago. Now, look at it. Engulfed in flames and the winds are expected to pick up tonight. Firefighters drove up the hill to alert more families to evacuate. Among them, they have lived in this home for more than 16 years. C carlo looked at his house and described it to us. Its comfortable. Its peaceful. The people i love and experiences ive had since i was a kid. Reporter when we met them, they were packing their cars to leave. How nerveracking is to hear those helicopters fly just above your home and seeing those flames so close . Its it sounds like a war zone. Railro reporter on the frontline of this war zone, more than 20 fire engines working on protecting these homes, these memories, and this hospital. In this halfmile section, there are at least 80 firefighters working on containing this blaze. Firefighters describing flames as high as 150 to 200 fet tall. These fire engines going up deer park road up into those residential areas. You can see the flame going up there. Point to that over there. You can see exactly what they were concerned about. That flame inching up into this road and blocking access into those residential areas. Were live here in st. Helena. Luz pena, abc 7 news. Flames a little too close for comfort. Please, do stay safe out there, luz, thanks. Napas Animal Response Team has been activated for the glass fire. Tens of thousands of people dont have electricity tonight after pg e launched a series of publicsafety power shutoffs across 16 california counties. Lets take a look now at pg es realtime outage map. When we see it, it has purple triangles that will indicate, okay, we know the electricitys better th been turned off as we said in 16 counties. A few, though, in the north bay. Pg e explained earlier tonight what factors it thinks about when deciding where to shut off power. Exactly where the dry fuels are going to be, and exactly where the high winds are going to be. When we you know, those two things intersect, thats problematic as it relates to, you know, fire safety. Pg e hopes it can restore power for most affected customers by late tomorrow evening. Now, we sent out this push alert at about 10 30 tonight with information about the latest round of evacuations. Back to our top story this evening. Three fires burning in the north bay and the wild card is the wind. Yeah. And drew, it doesnt seem like its going to get releaf fief f folks in the north bay at all. We are watching very closely. Those winds remain pretty active in the north bay. So we continue to have that red flag warning. It is still in effect for the entire north bay along with lake county, solano county, east bay hills, and inland east bay as well. We have gusty offshore winds already. They are frequently gusting over 35 Miles Per Hour and that means fires that we currently have can spread pretty fast. We are keeping our eye on that very closely because look at those winds right now. This is in our hills above about a thousand feet. Gusting to 34 in knoxville. And we do expect these winds really to continue in the earlymorning hours tomorrow. So lets go hour by hour for you. 3 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning, the focus is really in the north bay for those gusty, offshore winds. Well over 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour, at times. That continues at 6 00 a. M. , as well. So this next seven watching very closely for those stronge strongest winds. After 6 00 a. M. , the winds rapidly weaken and by lunch time, we do expect those winds to generally be less than 15 Miles Per Hour. Right now, its 75 right now in the city. 76 in oakland. 91. 91 in cloverdale. When you have these offshore winds coming down the mountainside, they actually compress and that means they warm up and dry out our atmosphere. So it is hot tonight in parts of the north bay. 73 in san jose. 75 right now in concord. The heat advisory is still in effect. Again tomorrow. Well have a hot afternoon. That heat advisory will last until 7 00 p. M. For virtually the entire bay area as we see possibly recordbreaking heat tomorrow. Overnight, tonight, it is going to be one of those uncomfortably warm nights. We will see temperatures mainly in the 60s, if not low 70s, as your starting temperatures tomorrow morning. So hour by hour, we go. Future weather showing you as we head towards 10 00 a. M. , we are already into the upper 70s, if not lower 80s. So it is a very warm morning on our monday. And then, into early afternoon by 1 00, we do see many 90degree readings on the board. So it is a hot afternoon, even along the coast tomorrow. So close look at hour highs the coast. In the mid0880s if not low 90s. Very warm day in San Francisco. Equally, if not hotter, 97. 96 in san jose. It is a hot day in the north bay as we track those fires. 100 in concord. Here we go. Day two of the heat wave. Hear it is a windy morning tomorrow morning. Again, after 6 00 a. M. , we are watching those winds rapidly weaken so that will be some good news. Its a hot afternoon. By tuesday, it is a cooler day around the coast and the bay shoreline. However, inland, we stay hot, at least through thursday, with those tripledigit readings. And midweek, guys, we will welcome the fog by wednesday morning. But nonetheless, tomorrow, it is going to be a very hot day. Two new fires burning not far from the glass fire. You can see them burning here live on this alert wildfire camera. You are looking south from mount st. Helena on the left side of the screen. And to the east of highway 128. Thats the glass fire. On the right, the newly named boyson fire on the far right is the shady fire both to the west of highway 128. And this is the way it looks on a map. These fires have already forced evacuations in sonoma county. The glass fire had forced lots of evacuations earlier today. Meteorologist drew tuma joining us now tracking weather conditions in the fire zone. We have a double whammy. Heat and wind. Yeah. We have both of those combined and that is why the red flag warning is still in effect. And these winds are strong tonight. And they will remain strong in our hills over the next 6 1 2 hours. That is the time period we are watching very closely. Look at the winds. Above a thousand feet in our hills, active tonight. 25 in hawkeye. We are gusting close to 50 Miles Per Hour on mount st. Helena. Gusting to 27 in knoxville. And again, we talk about the offshore breeze coming out of the northnorth east. That is a very hot wind at this time of the year and it dries out and warms up our atmosphere. Creating that high fire danger. So i want to zoom in particularly into the north bay tonight as we track those winds. This is midnight. You can see they are active. That remains the pattern as we head towards 5 00 a. M. You can see those winds, again, gusting offshore from a north to southwest fashion. Over 30, 35 Miles Per Hour. And then, it is very likely after 6 00 a. M. , tomorrow morning, that the winds will really weaken. So again, looking at about a 6 1 2 hour window right now where the winds are pretty fierce. Not only the winds, the humidity is very low because of these offshore winds to future tracker relative humidity is showing you, by 5 00 a. M. , especially in the north bay, we are tracking humidity around 20 , if not less than that. So that is dangerously dry air as we have these fires that are currently burning in parts of sonoma and napa counties. That fire danger. That redflag warning. It is in effect until 9 00 p. M. For the entire north bay, including lake county, sew olan county, east bay hills, where we are confirming winds already gusting over 35 Miles Per Hour. The critical window, i cant emphasize enough, is from now to 6 00 a. M. Tomorrow morning. We will be watching very closely. Those windy conditions certainly apparent near calistoga. That is where we check in with abc 7 News Reporter jr stone. Once again, jr, your mi practically blew off last time we checked in with you. It certainly did. Hair blowing around and that that wind just blowing around this jacket that we have on. The winds are still strong, and very dry out here, dion. But what we can see is some progress being made. You look off into the distance. And you can see, despite some of that progress, there are still flames. But the good news is that, right now, you can see some of those emergency vehicles that are out here and working to get these flames out in calistoga. I do want to go to some of the video. And as you look at this video, its important that you look, the bottom, lefthand side of your screen. Because, in it, you can see a man or what appears to be a man walking along, possibly a roof, and then, those flames are directly behind him. So that is certainly a concerning situation when you look at a scene like that. And you can see just how intense the flames are out there. This is in calistoga. We tried to get to santa rosa a little while ago. There was a downed tree on one of the roadways. And it was downed because of the flames that were in some of that back forest area. So certainly, a dangerous situation and some of these areas that have been evacuated. Now, back out here, live. You are actually looking to the south on some of the hillsides in the south. In the st. Helena area and you can see that reddish glow. When we are headed toward calistoga, we saw that glow on the hillsides of calistoga and now when we look to the south, we can still see that glow. But we are talking 2,500plus acres out here and that gives you an idea on the extent of these fire that fire crews are battling. Racing from one location to the next location to try to get those flareups and get those down as soon as possible. We have seen a number of people out here who live in this area, just hopeful that the wind dies down and firefighters can get control of this. Reporting live in calistoga, jr. Stone, abc 7 news. All right. Jr, thank you very much. I think we are all hoping for that. In st. Helena, firefighters working to keep the flames from getting closer to the deer park road area. Thats where a hospital was evacuated this morning. Abc 7 News Reporter, luz pena, is live from the st. Helena hospital. Luz. Eric, this is what firefighters are faced with tonight. It might look to you, at home, like its snowing but its not. Those are embers and ashes flying all around us. Take a look at this ridge right here. Those lights you see right there. Those orange, glowing lights. Thats the ridge on fire. This is whats keeping this entire area at least with some light and thats going down this ridge into those communities. Now, there are at least 80 firefighters working on containing this blaze from the ground. What they are trying to protect are homes up this hill, their fire station to my right, and, of course, the st. Helena hospital. 55 patients were evacuated this morning. We spoke to the honestspitals spokesperson who says this is the second evacuation they have had to encounter in the last two months. Cleaning all the air filters. Replacing scrubbers, air pscrubbers, throughout the hospital to keep our air safe. And they were just keeping everything up and running, functioning properly. You have to go through in Something Like this and turn off certain medical devices, lock up narcotics, things like that. So all of that was done in very methodical fashion. We are in the thick of it. You can see the sky has turned orange above us. These firefighters are not going anywhere. Their goal is to protect this hospital, and, of course, their fire station to my left. Many of them telling us that this is what they were afraid of. For this ridge to catch fire like you see it right to my mackenzie, show here to the right. This is what they were highly concerned about this morning when we were here. And it happened. This is what they were afraid of. And now, what they are working on right now is preventing for those flames to come over this road so they can have access to the homes right above this hill. Live here in st. Helena, luz pena, abc 7 news. You see those winds picking up. Wow. Behind you. Certainly, those flames. The Popular Video sharing app was supposed to be banned at midnight but a federal judge stepped in earlier tonight to postpone the Trump Administration order. In an emergency hearing, lawyers argued that banning tiktok from app stores would infringe on First Amendment rights. A more comprehensive ban is still scheduled for november, about a week after the president ial election. Theres been widespread reaction to the president s nominee for the supreme court. It came just days before the first president ial debate. And just over a month before election day. Federal Appeals Court judge, amy coney barrett, will soon face a contentious confirmation battle before she potentially replaces Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the nations highest court. Tonight, democrats are speaking out against the president S Supreme Court justice nominee. Making their stances very clear. What i am concerned about is anyone that President Trump would have appointed was there to undo the Affordable Care act. That is why he was in such a hurry. So he could have someone in place for the oral arguments, which begin november 10th. The 48yearold barrett, a devout catholic and former clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia could reshape the court for decades with a lifetime appointment pushing it further to the right. And that brings us to this weeks highly anticipated, first president ial debate. President trump and joe biden facing off on the supreme court, coronavirus, race, and social justice, and everything else. Meeting face to face, for the first time in the campaign. Coverage begins tuesday night at 6 00 p. M. , right here, on abc 7. The Childrens Discovery Museum in san mjose reopened it outdoor play space after nearly seven months. Bills backyard hosting sessions. The county has approved all of their safety measures. Masks are required for anyone older than 6. And capacity is limited with contactless entry. So we closed in early march. And, of course, you know, we have nearly 9,000 family members who have missed us, terribly. So there is a lot of joy this morning as we reopen. Bills backyard will be open only fridays through sundays. It is members only, right now. But everyone else can start visiting october 9th. Reservations are required. Our top story tonight. Of course, the three fires burning in the north bay. And we are watching those winds. Yeah, guys, we are watching those winds very closely. They are gusty right now and they will remain gusty at least for the next six hours. That red flag warning, it is still in effect. Those fires are also pumping out a lot of smoke tonight. So air quality, certainly, going to be an issue tomorrow. Lets talk about the air quality advisory we do have and the spare the air that will go into Effect Tomorrow for poor to moderate air quality, across the entire bay area. We are going to find that haze in our sky, that smoke in our atmosphere. So our air quality will decline if we take it to graphics. There we go. Live look outside from our east bay hills camera. There you go. Moderate to poor tomorrow across the entire region from the impacts from the smoke from those fires. Winds. We cannot show you this map enough because they are howling in our hills of the north bay. You can see those winds gusting from anywhere 25 to 50 Miles Per Hour, at this hour. And we will likely see this similar setup over the next six hours. We are not anticipating these winds to really die off overnight tonight. Lets go, hour by hour, show you those winds. 3 00 a. M. , you can see they are still active. That offshore breeze continues to move off the coast and it will gust over 30 Miles Per Hour, at times. We see that continue through 6 a a. M. Tomorrow morning. Then, after 6 00 a. M. , we do see winds really back off and by lunch time, looks like the winds will be less than 15 Miles Per Hour. So again, the critical window is between now and 6 00 a. M. And really focused in the north bay for those strongest winds. Red flag warning still in effect for the entire north bay, east bay hills, and the inland east bay, until 9 00 p. M. Tomorrow evening. We already had those winds we showed you gusting over 35 Miles Per Hour, close to 50 Miles Per Hour in spots. Again, we have fires currently burning in the north bay and that means they can spread quickly. Its something we are keeping an eye on very closely tonight. Not only the winds, its the heat as well. Kind of a onetwo punch this weekend. We have a heat advisory for virtually the entire bay area. You can see areas shaded in orange. The immediate coastline of san mateo and Santa Cruz County is the only exception. So we see hot temperatures across the board. Hour by hour, we go. Well watch that in one second.
