Those sports combined brought the school 20 National Championships and 27 olympic medals. Sad because stanford at least when i went there won a lot of olympic medals in those sports and is a source of pride for a lot of the students and faculty and the most depressing fact is that stanford has a really huge endowment. The decision is expected to send ripples through College Athletic departments across the nation. More to come here. Meantime a Catholic School is shutting down in the east bay. By april, we were already in a situation where we needed help. Reporter dr. Joel parrot says the fate of the animals and the beloved facility is now in the hands of county and state officials. By far we are supported by the operations, admission price, concessions, restaurant, rides area. We cannot make up for this by philanthropy alone. Reporter under current covid restrictions the zoo cannot reopen to the public unless it is reclassified or granted an exception or variance by the state. According to a county Health Spokesperson we have sent a letter to the state asking them to reclassify the zoo as an outdoor museum, which would allow it to open now. If the state doesnt agree, the zoo has to wait until we have our variance attestation in place. The zoo has all the new signage, sanitation protocols, and plans in place for a limited reopening. It just needs permission and its 3 million reserve is running out. In the meantime its costing about 1 million per month. That is why were on this trajectory we are to run out of money. I am urging officials at either the state or county level to allow the zoo to open safely. It is such a community treasure.
