We want all occupants to exit through the front door with your hands raised above your head. This is what residents of an apartment complex woke up to this morning just after 7 00 a. M. With heavily armed police, many in tactical gear, served a warrant on their neighbors. Now theyre going in. It was about 12 officers running in and had on the s. W. A. T stuff, s. W. A. T stuff. They had two big ole black s. W. A. T things. Looked like something out of a movie. Police sources confirm the raid resulted in several officials they believed could be suspects. Five people were killed as the event erupted in gunfire just before 11 00 p. M. Three others were hurt. Abc 7 news has learned the violence may have stemmed from a dispute involving rival gangs including from San Francisco. The Sheriffs Department wont say yet whether those arrested in marin city are believed to be the shooters at the party. The raid was conducted primarily by Contra Costa County, but the fbi and other bay area agencies have assisted in the investigation. Arenda mayor expressed relief at the progress in a case that has shaken her community. I think in this time of uncertainty people feel fear. They feel many emotions. They feel sadness for the victims in this case and they feel fear for the potential of a shooting anywhere. Now, the Sheriffs Department in Contra Costa County promises an update any minute to confirm exactly how many were arrested here this morning. And to hopefully give us more information about their suspected roles in the arenda party shootings. In marin city, Laura Anthony abc 7 news. Laura, thank you. Two students are dead after being shot this morning at a Southern California high school. Police say a classmate pulled a gun from his backpack and opened fire before then shooting himself. This was at sagas high school. The 16yearold suspect was taken to the hospital and is in, quote, grave condition after shooting himself. Abc news reports investigators are looking into at least one online post from the suspect which suggests something was going to happen at school today. Theres a News Conference in los angeles. Lets listen live now. Law enforcement as they continue their investigation. Some areas of which we cannot comment on. However, we are providing updates as we are able to provide additional information. At this point, we have a few individuals that are standing by, one which is one of our trauma surgeons who happened to be on duty this morning and was one of the individuals that responded. And just as a final note, we know that this is the beginning of a process that will take many days months in order to support this community to ensure that we are able to move forward as a community. Not only do we provide services to the community as a health organization, but many of our employees live the majority of them live in this community as well as a number of them have children who attend schools in this community. Sagas being one of those schools as well as they have neighbors, friends, family members as well. So, with that, i will introduce dr. Mark dr. Lloyd mark conterez who is one of our trauma surgeons and he will make comments related to care of the victims. Thank you. Thank you for coming out today. Unfort nate unfortunately this is not the type of day as a father and trauma surgeon. There are no words to describe the emotion of this. And that being said, dr. Kidd, thank you for your words. Pretty much describes everything that weve experienced today. At around 7 45 to 8 00 this morning, the trauma team was activated for a mass shooting, a school shooting. With we received four victims. Four two succumbs to their injuries. One has been discharged. One is in critical condition. Thats the extent of the victims at this point medically. As far as the Trauma Program here, the response has been great. We were more than prepared for this. We have preparations for this kind of event preemptively, and we utilized those resources today, tending into trauma resource and the pretrauma phase. We had kits out there in schools that i hear have been utilized in one of the victims today in the stop the bleed programs. In the hospitals we have our resources. Trauma surgeons came in to back us up and we were more than capable and available to operate on multiple victims today in which we did. And that being said the last thing we need to remember is there are more victims than just the ones in the hospital. There are families, classmates, and the community, and we would like to offer the hospital as a resource for these victims. As alluded to earlier, healing begins now and will continue in the next few months and years unfortunately. That being said, i would like to introduce deputy chief robert pena. Good afternoon. Id just like to briefly explain what the Fire Departments role was in this incident. On behalf of fire chief daryl ozby we responded with the l. A. County Sheriffs Department early this morning to this active shooter call at the high school. We had approximately nine paramedic squads, ten fire engines, 24 ambulances, and other associated units in response, total of 65 units. The Fire Departments role was to integrate with the Sheriffs Department and medical teams in the zone and to initiate lifesaving intervention measures. Upon that, we triaged, treated, and transported seven patients, six shooting victims and one nonshooting related. One patient transported by helicopter and three by and the other six by ground transport. And they went to the hospitals of holy cross. And with that, i just want to recognize and thank the unified command and the cooperating assisting agencies on such a traumatic incident. We had several of our First Responders had children, their children, in the school attending classes, attending the school at that time. And i want to thank the Sheriffs Department and the hphp hospitals involved and the Ambulance Companies in the Quick Response and professional care. That is john preston, a musician, firefighter, and veteran. His song, superman falls is about his corp koer veteran. Whats your goal with the walk . To put it clearly, i want people to stop killing themselves. Lets lay it out there as clear as we can. Weve got 22 veteran suicides a day right now. We have 22 . 22. And then almost one a day Police Officer suicides and one in every three days firefighters are taking their own lives. So, we want to come at this as hard as we can to say theres people here, there are options here, there are things we can do. Please just stop taking your life. You mentioned that you think theres a disconnect between regular citizens and veterans. Why do you think thats the case . Theres a different mindset, right . Theres a mission given. You have to accomplish that mission. Plus the veteran community is seen now 18 years straight of war now. Weve seen a lot in life to grow up really fast. So, theres that suck it up mentality. Theres those concepts that are keeping people from going out getting help. Thats where were trying to say its okay, lets do this. Do you think for guys, and maybe women as well, but i can relate more to the male situation where guys think theres a stigma attached with therapy or trying to get help. Is that a big issue to overcome . Yeah, absolutely. As a firefighter, i still see that in the fire service. Were trying to address it there. Theres Police Chiefs coming out as a union saying were supporting this. We want people to get help. So, its knocking away that fear that im going to lose my job or people are going to look down at me and see me as weak and going out getting the help needed. We heard the clip from your song. How is the music received so far . And why superman falls as a title . Im fortunate with how its gone. Superman falls was in the top 20. I was in the charts with metallica, pretty cool. That was my familys superman. He was the oldest of the family and a confidant. He was a Police Officer for 20 years. I always looked up to him and wanted to be like him. To lose him and that to go down, we lost our superman. I want people to see whats going on. People thinking about suicide, youre destroying a family no matter how much you think they dont love you. Lets get back to the hike. Youre going to be hiking 22 miles per day over 26 days. Can other people join with you to walk or is it a solo endeavor . Anyone is welcome to come. And were going to post our schedule at 22andyou. Net. Were going to post the schedule so people can see it when it starts in january. But were going to be inviting guests as well and filming them and interviewing them. We have some special people that are going to tell their stories and people that have also lost others to suicide whether its a Police Officer or veteran suicide. Theyre going to be coming in and sharing their lives and sharing what theyve done to go forward as well. So, anyone is welcome. Were going to rock the whole coast and hopefully thousands of people come and attend. Thats what were looking for. For people that want to get involved and help whether it be walking alongside you or sponsorship support, where do they go . You can always hit me up on facebook, john preston music, or go to 22andyou. Net and directly donate. Everything is tax deductible that were doing. Its all going to be charitable. Were going to be raising money for nonprofits as we go along on the actual hike. I know youve got Cool Technology youre going to be wearing adds well. Yeah. Weve got a lot of different things. H wave is hooking us up with the pain reliever. Thats been awesome. Just just the concept of being out here and going on this journey, i did a 22mile hike in june and it kind of set me in this direction because it hurt so bad and i thought to myself, man, like, if we could document how this physically hurts and see this is going to be 27 days of this to know and understand that that pain is nothing compared to what its like to being a little brother that lost his older brother to suicide. So, we want people to be able to visualize what this pain actually is and try to go get help instead of hurting themselves and destroying their families. Well, john, thanks for coming in. We certainly wish you the best and well keep track of your adventure as well as the documentary when you put it all together. Yes, sir. John preston. Negotiations on a new trade deal between the u. S. And china reportedly hit a snag over farm purchases according to the wall street journal, beijing is hesitant about putting a dollar amount on the Agricultural Products it would purchae. The Trump Administration claims that china had agreed to 50 billion in products each year. Officials on both sides are working to lockdown a limited deal before new tariffs are set to take effect next month. With president trumps trade war with china showing few signs of cooling off, many people are wondering what the future holds. A retired air force general claims america should be alarmed because america has been fighting a stealth war for decades. Thanks guys. Im joined by Brigadier General robert spaulding. Welcome. Great to be here. Yeah, great to have you. Your book is stealth war how china took over while americas elite slept. First your credentials, you advised the Trump Administration on china policy until last year. Until 2018. Youre a conservative think tank. I am. Yes. This is a provocative title. Explain how you think china has been fighting a stealth war and for what purpose. I think for many purposes, primarily for the Chinese Communist party to stay in power they have to deliver consistent economic growth. One way theyve done that is eliminate over 70,000 factories in the United States which amounted to 13 million jobs since they entered the wto in 2001. The reason for stealth war is because of all the influence that is going on not just within our politics but also in in the corporate sector and academia and think tank. I talk about in the book when i was in the white house trying to get think tanks and dealing with the Chinese Communist influence they all said cant help you because we dont want to anger chinese funders. Its a challenge for the democratic prns pls to continue to do that when they are influenced by Chinese Communist party money. Most agree china doesnt always play fair when it comes to trade or protectionism or intellectual property and that needs to be rectified. Thats part of the driving force behind the trade war. However, do youthink that is enough . Is that the right tactic and is that going to achieve the results we should be looking for . I dont think it is and were accelerating to more challenges for the United States. As the australian Strategic PolicyResearch Just found out a Company Called gt com in china reports to the Chinese Ministry of finance. They send the data for businesss in over 65 languages to the propaganda arm of the Chinese Communist party and the intelligence arm of the Peoples Liberation party. This company is collecting data otodo business. When you bring up the 5g network, i dont think we have time to get into that, but that is your advocacy for a National Take overfrom the 5g develop is why you were let go from the white house. If you read more about robert spa spa spalding, youll hear more about that. Do you think the right thing is to isolate china or proactively involve them as partners. There will be those who sayeep could be a win win . Why make it so its this cold war mentality . You keep using the word china. The Chinese CommunistParty Controls china and its not a democracy. Its con try butting control to the Chinese Party leadership. You have to keep that in mind. Were talking about a regime through xis words himself in 2013 through the bureau and in document nine really wants the rise of socialism not just in china but other places as well and the decline of democratic principles, particularly document number nine talks about this. You say we have three years left to act, otherwise we face a dystopian future in which they will destroy the democratic ideals of america. Do you still believe that . I think they already are. As the recent nba fiasco shows, theyre influencing our commercial sector into abandoning democratic principles. That being said, i think some of the things were instituting in the federal government are giping to slow down their capabilities to do that. So, i think we have more time. Its time to k aeventually invest in our own country and particularly data privacy and security for americans. I think there are a lot of supporters on that idea of investing more in america as well. General spalding, really interesting book on an important topic. You have a couple of bay area events coming up. All right. All right. Thank you.
