Santa cruz is a special community that knows how to come together when a child goes missing. Theyve turned out by the dozens and dozens to help police the fbi and other agencies to search for this missing 8yearold. It is a community that is very concerned for her welfare. Two distinct groups have been out searching for young madyson for about 24 hours. About 75 santa cruz officers are also tracking down leads and contacting 20 sex offenders. Volunteers have shown up to help search under the guidance of police. However, investigators insist this is not a kidnapping. Were not calling this a kidnapping. Were still early on in our investigation. Were calling it this is were looking for a lost child. It baffles Family Friends how madyson disappears. She would always be very concerned, vigilant, how to get back home. She didnt want to walk alone around here. You know she had escorts, she had a lot of friends. It hurts my heart. It hurts my soul. Santa Cruz Police Department is continuing to coordination a plan with the sheriffs office. Search and rescue will be developing a plan over the next 12 to 24 hours of the operation period. The fbi has joined investigation providing personnel and he resources to this effort. At this point there are well over 100 Police Officers federal agents and search and rescue team members out there looking for maddy. So it wasnt just solely the beach area. They were able to track her scent around the tannery area the woodland areas and on towards the beach areas. Were looking at every single possibility. Were looking in every nook and cranny to find Maddy Middleton. How confident are you with the search into the boardwalk area . This search is focused everywhere. Board members voted late this afternoon to allow openly gay troop members and employees at boy scout owned facilities.
