This is calling into question San Franciscos immigration policies. Heres abc7 News Reporter vic lee with more. Flowers mark the spot with Katheryn Steinle was shot friday evening. Tests are being donn a gun found, but they say its the one used by sanchez, the man caught later that night not far from the shooting. Sanchez is on probation in texas. He has a long wrap sheet and has a long rap sheet mostly drug charges. He has been deported to mexico five times. In fact ice had him in custody in march but turn him over to the Sheriffs Office when it was found he had an outstanding warrant here. But the d. A. Dropped the case dating back to the 1990 the and the Sheriffs Office subsequently released sanchez. In a a written statement they lodged an immigration detainer at the time, requesting notification prior to his release so they could take him into custody again. Ice said the warrant was not honored. He was in custody again on a similar offense. Sheriff carved out on even stricter policy, which in almost all cases would require i. C. E. To go to court . A court order or judicial order for review were issued, of course, we would honor that warrant. There were none in this case. I. C. E. But under the new Pricing System the highest power users will get a break by paying less than they have. In order to balance things out, those who consume less will now see a slightly higher power bill. Utility Reform Network calls it unfair. Next weekend work will begin on a San Francisco memorial many feel is long overdue for those who fought in the korean war. Memorial will be located outside the gates of the San Francisco National Cemetery in the pre sidio whether of and will overlook the golden gate. We have the story. Take a stroll through the National Cemetery. A place where changes happen slowly and tend to happen permanently. On this day a reason to celebrate the fourth of july. If retired colonel john stevens looks familiar, its because weve been following him for years as he tried to establish a Korean War Memorial in the presidio National Cemetery. Stevens, along with a retired judge and a former marine stood by a sign marking the spot where next week they will break ground. For those who fought in and supported the korean conflict, the new memorial is long overdue. More than 30,000 graves in this cemetery, 2,273 of them belong to korean war veterans. This is called the forgotten war because i dont think history gives it the kind of attention it should. It was United Nations action in which a million koreans died and more than 33,000 americans.
