Hoffman receives teaching award
Scott Hoffman received the 2021 Joseph and Kathleen Sandersen Excellence in Teaching Award during the 2021 commencement and honor exercises June 6 at St. Mary Catholic Central High School.
The award is given annually to a member of the teaching staff who best exemplifies the characteristics of outstanding teaching in Catholic schools, as voted on by the student body and faculty, said SMCC.
Hoffman has been a faculty member of SMCC’s science department for 20 years. After serving in the Navy, Hoffman followed his father, Ernie Hoffman, and became a high school teacher and coach.
"Scott Hoffman embodies what makes up a great teacher,” said Jason Linster, SMCC principal. “For two decades Scott has helped form the next generation of Christian disciples thanks to his innate ability to connect with young minds and hearts, whether that's in the classroom, on a retreat, on the athletic field or in the countless hours he spends teaching students about the scientific method and the beauty and sacredness of God's creation order."
