The Monroe County Historical Society will retain ownership, programming and maintenance of the historic Eby Log Cabin at the Monroe County Fairgrounds under an agreement reached with the County of Monroe.
The Monroe County Board of Commissioners recently approved 9-0 a memo of understanding to transfer ownership to the society of the 164-year-old cabin that recently got a much-needed facelift by the society and Amish contractors from Indiana.
The accord is the culmination of nearly two years of efforts to determine the ownership status of the two-story building that was moved to the fairgrounds in 1960.
Under the agreement, the county recognizes the society’s claim to ownership and through the Monroe County Museum System will provide artifacts for the building and staffing for events held throughout the year at the fairgrounds.
