The
National Assembly is currently seeking to amend the Nigeria Press Council Act and the National Broadcasting Commission Act. What do you make of these moves?
The National Assembly probably has good intentions in terms of fast-tracking that the media does a good job of entertaining, informing and educating the public. They think maybe there are excesses in the media and they should take steps to deal with the excesses but I think they are going about it the wrong way. Our intention is to engage them and see that all of us do what is right and ensure that we have a very robust media, which is vital to democracy and, at the same time, where there are excesses, they are dealt with within reasonable processes that do not impede on the freedom of the press and good governance.
