Council Certifies Candidates, Awards Bid For Airport Work
The Hillsboro City Council met in a regular session Tuesday, April 6, and certified unopposed candidates ahead of the May election date.
The incumbents—Mayor Andy Smith and council members Eric Fleming, Dana Robinson and Leann Richmond—were the only candidates to file for the open positions.
With all candidates unopposed, the council also officially canceled the May election for the City of Hillsboro, and office holders will take the Oath of Office Tuesday, May 18.
A bid was awarded to B-C Electric for lighting improvements at the Hillsboro Municipal Airport.
The improvement project is being accomplished with state and federal funding through the TxDOT Aviation Department and will update the current lighting system, which was installed in 1993 when the airport was built, and is now past its useful service life.
