Share Council Discusses Future Plans, Hears Planning & Zoning Requests The Hillsboro City Council continued discussions from a recent planning workshop and considered planning and zoning recommendations in a regular meeting held Tuesday, May 4. City Manager Megan Henderson recapped information covered during the recent workshop. She stressed the importance of planning improvements, communicating those plans effectively to the community and following through to accomplish the projects. A major topic of discussion has been the condition of city streets, and Henderson said that a multi-year, multi-million dollar commitment to street improvements is necessary utilizing bond, stimulus and grant funding. Plans also include using those same sources of funding to increase the quality of water and sewer systems. ....
Share Council Certifies Candidates, Awards Bid For Airport Work The Hillsboro City Council met in a regular session Tuesday, April 6, and certified unopposed candidates ahead of the May election date. The incumbents Mayor Andy Smith and council members Eric Fleming, Dana Robinson and Leann Richmond were the only candidates to file for the open positions. With all candidates unopposed, the council also officially canceled the May election for the City of Hillsboro, and office holders will take the Oath of Office Tuesday, May 18. A bid was awarded to B-C Electric for lighting improvements at the Hillsboro Municipal Airport. The improvement project is being accomplished with state and federal funding through the TxDOT Aviation Department and will update the current lighting system, which was installed in 1993 when the airport was built, and is now past its useful service life. ....
Share Water Issues Impact County As Winter Storm Recovery Continues The Hillsboro City Council met in an emergency session at noon Monday, February 22, and declared a water scarcity emergency in the city. Many other cities and water supply corporations were also dealing with their own supply issues throughout the county as the week began. The council ordered all laundry facilities and car washes to cease operations in the city through noon Wednesday, February 24. Other businesses and citizens were asked to voluntarily conserve as much water as possible. Last week’s winter storm caused over 10 major leaks in the city’s water distribution system and multiple leaks on private property. The city reported that this had caused the loss of millions of gallons of water over a period of 10 days. ....
