As the summer approaches and many schools plan a traditional eight-week break, many school officials encourage parents to enroll children in structured summer learning programs, which pair academic enrichment with fun activities.
Of course, many parents want children to enjoy camps, time with grandparents, sports or travel. But experts say even a little bit of structured learning during academic breaks can make a big difference; most children who don’t engage in educational activities over the summer lose about two months of math skills.
